Cotton Baby Bibs

These are medium-size bibs (about 7” across at its widest point), good for small infants or as spit-up bibs.

Materials:I hook2 oz worsted weight cotton yarn (MC)small amount of worsted weight cotton yarn for edging and ties (CC)

Foundation: Using MC, ch 14. sc in second chain from hook. Sc across. ch 1, turn. [13 sc] Row1:2scinfirstsc. scacrossuptolastsc. 2scinlastsc. ch1,turn.[15sc]Row 2: Repeat Row 1 [17 sc]Row 3: Repeat Row 1 [19 sc]

Row 4: Repeat Row 1 [21 sc]Rows 5 – 23: sc across. ch 1, turn. [21 sc]Now we are making the sides of the bib. We will make each side individually.Side #1 (left side)Row 24: sc across the FIRST 7 SC ONLY. Do not sc in the remaining 14 sc. ch 1, turn [7 sc] Row 25: sc 2 tog. Sc across. ch 1, turn. [6 sc]Row 26: sc across. ch 1, turn. [6 sc]Row 27: sc 2 tog. Sc across. ch 1, turn. [5 sc]Row 28: sc across. ch 1, turn. [5 sc]Row 29: sc 2 tog. Sc across. ch 1, turn. [4 sc]Row 30: sc across. ch 1, turn. [4 sc]Row 31: sc 2 tog. Sc across. ch 1, turn. [3 sc]Row 32: sc across. ch 1, turn. [3 sc]Row 33: sc 2 tog. Sc across. ch 1, turn. [2 sc]Row 34: sc across. ch 1, turn. [2 sc]Row 35: sc 2 tog. ch 1, turn. [1 sc]Row 36: sc. fasten o!. [1 sc]

Side #2 (right side)Flip bib over. Reattach MC yarn to the other end of Row 23. Repeat Rows 24-36 on this side.

Edging and ties: Attach contrasting color in Row 36 of Side #2.Chain 35. Slip stitch in each chain (making tie #1). Slip stitch back into Row 36. ch 1. sc evenly down inside of Side #2, across front of bib, and up the inside of Side #1.When you reach Row 36 of side #1 (the top), Chain 35. Slip stitch in each chain (making tie #2). Slip stitch back into Row 36. ch 1. sc evenly around the outer edge of the bib. When you get back to Row 36 of Side #2 (where you joined the CC), join to first sc. Fasten o!.

A COUPLE OF NOTES FOR YOU!

• You can make the bib with either of our yarn choices.

• You can use an H (5.0mm) or I (5.5mm) crochet hook.

• The photo shows the “life” size bib in Lion Brand Recycled cotton.

• You should be able to get two bibs out of either yarn choice.

• If when working the bib it is not wide enough after the given number of increases, repeat the increase rows to the desired width of the sample.
