COSTUME ANALYSIS

Nathan-Zak the Jock. Jocks as a whole are typically described as being athletically gifted individuals at the expense of

their intelligence. Generally existing more of a protective presence more than a speaking role, often generally accepted by the cast as lacking intelligence and are often killed due to a mistimed assertion of male dominance resulting their deaths. They generally have short or styled hair and wear athletic clothing.

This look was inspired mainly from the American stereotypes explored in Final Destination. A film famous for using clearly identifiable stereotypes for critical effect.

Luke-Jake, the camera man.

The camera man represents the relatable male teen character. Portraying as a slightly neurotic individual who may not be comfortable socialising, especially around those of the opposite sex, and are often portrayed as the comedic foil to lighten the film in particularly heavy moments. This character can be shown to be crude or show and often falls to deferential roles to a more dominant character.

This character normally wears generic clothing, inferring a loss of self identity at the current times or remains in uniform, also possibly conforming to trends of hair style amongst jocks, even if only for practicality of filming the character.

This character cannot really be inspired by one film or franchise as it is heavily prevalent amongst teen horror films.

Iverson-Matt, the sensitive guy.

This character is the interim between Jock and recluse, the “Sensitive Guy”. Often depicted as more fashionable or stylish than most males in the film and often associated with the Final girl or the tom boy character. Glasses are often used to bluntly suggest intelligence. Sometimes can appear as pursuing slightly illegal practices, but nearly always acts on a supportive role for the final girl.

The inspiration for the personality of Matt is similar to the stoner character in cabin in the woods, who is shown as heavily individual and appears as a very supportive character towards the final girl in the end.

Skye-Laura, the promiscuous character.

This character personality wise if often quite bland, depicted mainly as the requirement for male gaze or to accompany the jock. Often flirtatious to males and cruel to those they view as below them in social standing.

This again is a heavily used stereotype so we just employed expected conventions for the archetype. Noticeable makeup, red clothing or lipstick revealing clothing and a flirtatious demeanour are accepted conventions.

Molly-Stephanie, The Final Girl

This character is normally quite attractive, but the personality is often quite closed except to a few individuals, such as the sensitive guy, often the theme of black and the supernatural is associated with this character, causing the “popular” characters to be abrasive or just plain rude towards the character.

The inspiration for this character is predominantly the depiction of “Needy” in Jennifer’s body. A character who has a relationship with a sensitive guy as well as a thorough knowledge of the supernatural.

Rhianna-Olivia, the Nerd. This character is often heavily stereotypical. An astute intellect combined

with reliance on a more powerful cast member often feature as well as a relatively low social standing. Often grouped with the jock due to stark contrast in character for comedic effect. Often shown with bunched up or practical hairstyles as well as rather ornate or high quality clothing.

The character itself was not really inspired through a specific horror franchise, more as a teenage caricature of the well known Sherlock Holmes character, often associated with extreme intelligence.
