With year-round active lifestyles, South

Floridians perpetually seek ways to

look and feel better. In this quest,

we search for physicians delivering

optimum results in a safe and caring

environment, who are fully knowledgeable and qualified

to employ the latest technology. Whether surgery and

treatments are elective or necessary, we desire an expert

partner in our care. Fortunately, as a major metropolitan

area, South Florida has attracted world-class doctors with

cutting edge treatment options.

Cassann Blake, MD Each year, over 200,000 women are diagnosed with

breast cancer in the United States, but it no longer means

a death sentence, according to Cleveland Clinic Florida’s

breast surgeon Dr. Cassann Blake. “Thanks to earlier

detection, new treatments, and a better understanding

of the disease, cancer patients have a greater chance for

a positive outcome. More women than ever before are

surviving breast cancer,” she said.

Dr. Blake is part of a team at Cleveland Clinic’s

Breast Cancer Program which was recently accredited

by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers

(NAPBC). This means that the center is qualified to offer

the full spectrum of interdisciplinary care to patients

with breast disease, and patients are afforded the most

currently available forms of evaluation, treatment, and

follow-up.

“We provide state-of-the art screening in a unique and

soothing environment that resembles a spa rather than a

hospital,” explained Dr. Blake. “We also offer the latest

in imaging technology, including digital mammography,

ultrasound, MRI and CAD (computer aided detection)—

making early and accurate detection a priority.” In fact,

Cleveland Clinic’s collaborative team approach ensures

that patients undergoing a mastectomy have access to

plastic surgeons who have pioneered the use of laser

imaging technology, as well as using a woman’s own

skin and soft tissue to perform breast reconstruction for

optimal results.

The goal of the cancer care team at Cleveland Clinic

is to utilize every resource available for their patients,

combining innovative medical technology, individualized

and comprehensive treatment plans, and the personal

concern and support of medical professionals.

Ryan GReene, MD, PhD Part artist, part surgeon, Dr. Ryan Greene expertly

sculpts and shapes some of South Florida’s most beautiful

faces in his boutique practice. “Facial plastic surgery is an

art and a science. I love the anatomy of the face and how

demanding the procedures are—especially rhinoplasty.

It’s a very elegant procedure,” Dr. Greene said.

Dr. Greene’s practice scope involves laser skin

resurfacing treatments and both cosmetic and

reconstructive surgery. He offers an advanced approach

to rhinoplasty that is based on cutting-edge techniques

and a more modern approach to the surgery. He also

utilizes fractionated CO2 laser resurfacing, which is a

much safer treatment that offers many advantages over

previous laser treatments.

Dr. Greene enjoys the diversity of the South Florida

patient—from the presenting conditions such as sun

damage or cancer reconstruction to his work with ethnic

populations. “The ethnic diversity impacts the surgeries

and treatments I do. You need to be skilled in different

techniques to address this diversity,” explained Dr.

Greene.

With all of the options available in the marketplace

today, information (and misinformation) can be confusing

for patients and their doctors. Dr. Greene enjoys playing

the part of educator with his patients. “It’s important for

patients to understand that there is no substitute for a

good consultation and education from a qualified surgeon.

I like being able to educate patients. I’ll give them lots

of options and let them make decisions based on those

options. The physician and the patient should ultimately

be partners,” said Dr. Greene.

RiChaRD D. kiMMel, DO, FCCP Dr. Kimmel has been treating patients with vein

problems since 1991, longer than many other vein

doctors have been in practice. He is one of the very few

board certified cardiovascular surgeons that provides

comprehensive vein care as a vascular surgeon—which

means he can handle cosmetic vein procedures as well

as medical vein treatments. “It’s like having Bobby Flay

cook at your backyard barbecue. We don’t treat veins as

a sideline. It is what we do and who we are,” Dr. Kimmel

explained.

The Boca Vein Center prides itself on being a small,

focused practice that delivers personalized, non-assembly

line care. In fact, Dr. Kimmel’s nurse and office manager

have been with him for 17 years, demonstrating a stability

and continuity you don’t often see in South Florida. “We

treat all of our patients very well, and it has always been

my credo to ‘do the right thing,’” Dr. Kimmel stated.

Technology is critical to Dr. Kimmel’s work and he uses

a Dornier laser, ASCLERA Sclerotherapy solution, and tiny

surgical instruments to treat all aspects of a patient’s vein

problems. He noted, “With all of the modalities available

to us, we are able to treat everything from small spider

veins to large bulging veins.”

As with many medical practitioners, satisfaction and

fulfillment come from the delivery of positive results to the

patient. Dr. Kimmel has not only relieved serious leg pain

in some, but he has also made it possible for others to wear

shorts and bathing suits again without embarrassment.

CORy M. lessneR, MD At the age of 3, Dr. Cory Lessner knew he wanted to

be a doctor when he grew up. At the age of 9, he knew

he would pursue ophthalmology. Eventually, he discovered

the specialty of laser vision correction with LASIK and PRK

which led him to open the successful Millenium Laser Eye

Centers.

“From its inception, our practice has been solely

dedicated to laser vision correction—it’s all we do. Because

we are not distracted by any routine eye care, we have

more time to focus on the small details that go into the

creation of an exceptional patient experience,” Dr. Lessner

explained.

In addition, Dr. Lessner follows and employs the latest

technologies in his practice, offering a bladeless, all-laser

procedure considered by many to be the most advanced

platform of technologies available in the industry. He

believes that this focused, skillful approach is one of

the reasons that his center has been chosen by all four

professional sports teams in South Florida as their official

LASIK provider.
