From The Pastor’s Desk

Dear Parishioners, All Souls Day (November 2nd) is approaching quickly. As a custom in Catholic parishes, parishioners are en-couraged to use All Souls envelopes. On the enve-lopes, you can list as many names of departed loved ones. It is suggested that you give a ten-dollar dona-tion for each person you write on the envelope. Dur-ing the month of November, we will remember the names of all of these loved ones in a special Book of Remembrance, which will be placed on the altar in the church. Please make sure you use the available enve-lopes found on the church information tables. Then, you can put them in the collection after enclosing your donations or bring, or mail the envelope to the parish office. Donations can be made in cash or check. We would like to have most of the envelopes before the beginning of November. The Russians are coming! No joke. They are coming to sing at our parish. Dmitry Petrov, his wife, and two others will be giving a special choral presentation at Corpus Christi Parish on Thursday, November 9th at 7 p.m. The concert will take place in the church. The choral group is called “ChoRuss” which means Russian Choir. They performed at the Basilica of the Immacu-late Conception in Jacksonville last year to a large crowd and were warmly received. Having personally attended their concert, I can truly say that you will en-joy their beautiful singing. These choir members are looking for accommodations among parishioners. If you have room to house either all or a portion of this ensemble for a couple of nights, please contact me after church or at the office. And now some funnies: #1 – A very tired pastor was at home resting, and through the window he saw a woman approaching his door. She was one of those too-talkative people, and he was not anxious to talk with her. He said to his wife, "I'll just duck upstairs and wait until she goes away." An hour passed, and then he tiptoed to the stair landing and listened ... not a sound. He was very pleased, so he started down calling loudly to his wife, "Well, My Dear, did you get rid of that old bore at last?" The next moment he heard the voice of the same

woman caller, and she couldn't possibly have missed hearing him. Two steps down, he saw them both star-ing up at him. It seemed truly a crisis moment. The quick-thinking pastor's wife answered, "Yes, Dear, she went away over an hour ago. But Mrs. Jones has come to call in the meantime, and I'm sure you'll be glad to greet her." #2 – One Saturday afternoon, Fr. Sullivan was hearing confessions at the church in Dublin, Ireland. A young lady walked into the confessional and began telling her sins. During the confession, the priest interrupted her and asked, “My goodness. You don’t mind me asking, but is that Jane O’Toole behind the screen?” “Why yes Father, it is truly me!” “Where have you been all these years?” “I have been in New York City.” “Oh my. And what have you been doing there?” “Father, I trained to become an acrobatic dancer.” “You have? Can you show me some of the things you learned?” “Why cer-tainly Father.” So, the priest gave her a penance and absolution. Then, he came out of the confessional and proceeded to watch as Jane did a cartwheel and hand-stand and flips in the church. A group of elderly ladies were kneeling the pews watching as all of this was unfolding before their eyes. One of the ladies leaned over to the other one and whispered, “Can you imagine the kinds of penances Father Sullivan is giving these days? And, me, in my bloomers?” #3 - Three pastors went to the pastor convention and were all sharing one room. The first pastor said, "Let's confess our secret sins one to another. I'll start - my secret sin is I just love to gamble. When I go out of town, it's cha-ching cha-ching, let the machines ring." The second pastor said, "My secret sin is that I just hate working. I copy all my sermons from those given by other pastors." The third pastor said, "My secret sin is gossiping and, oh boy, I just can't wait to get out of this room!" #4 - After the revival had concluded, the three pastors were discussing the results with one another. The Methodist minister said, "The revival worked out great for us! We gained four new families." The Baptist preacher said, "We did better than that! We gained six new families." The Presbyterian pastor said, "Well, we did even better than that! We got rid of our 10 biggest trouble makers!" Fr. Murphy
