Core Values(Psalm 128:1)

Page 3: Corevaluespp

Introduction• Who we really are

matters. It comes through despite our attempts to appear otherwise.

• We show our core values by our language and life.

Page 4: Corevaluespp

Values• “As a man thinks in his heart, so is he.”

(Proverbs 23:7)• “Core values define and lead to the vision. In

the visioning process, the core values are defined first - then the vision” (Carl Townsend).

• “Everyone has values; even criminal gangs have values. Values govern people's behavior but principles govern the consequences of those behaviors” (Stephen Covey).

The Seven Army Core Values• Loyalty• Duty• Respect• Selfless Service• Honor• Integrity• Personal Courage

Page 7: Corevaluespp

Loyalty• “Bear true faith and allegiance to the U.S.

Constitution, the Army, your unit and other Soldiers.”

• We must have loyalty to God, His Word and our spiritual family, if we will make a great impact with God’s mission.

• Hebrews 11:6; John 14:15; Galatians 6:2; Ephesians 3:20-21

Loyalty• “Open criticism & being disloyal to

supervisors, leaders, & the Army destroys the very foundation of the organization & results in diminished mission accomplishment. However, loyalty should not be confused with blind obedience to illegal orders.”

• 1 Peter 2:17, “Honor all people. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king.”

Duty• “Duty is the legal or moral obligation to

accomplish all assigned or implied tasks to the fullest of your ability. Every Soldier must do what needs to be done without having to be told to do it. Duty requires a willingness to accept full responsibility for your actions and for your performance.”

• Ephesians 4:1, “Walk worthy of the calling with which you were called.”

Respect “Treat people as they

should be treated. In the Soldier’s Code, we pledge to ‘treat others with dignity and respect while expecting others to do the same.’”

Page 11: Corevaluespp

Selfless Service• “Selfless service is placing your duty,

obligations and responsibilities before your personal desires. Selfless service is the ability to endure hardships and insurmountable odds because of love of fellow Soldiers, co-workers, your community and our Nation.”

• Philippians 2:5-11

Honor• “Honor is living up to the Army Values. It

starts with being honest with one's self and being truthful and sincere in all of our actions. As General Douglas MacArthur once said ‘the untruthful soldier trifles with the lives of his countrymen and the honor and safety of his country.’“

• Romans 12:1-2

Integrity• “Do what’s right, legally and morally.

Integrity is a quality you develop by adhering to moral principles. It requires that you do and say nothing that deceives others. As your integrity grows, so does the trust others place in you.”

• Philippians 1:12-14

Personal Courage• “Personal courage is overcoming fears of

bodily harm while performing your duty. Moral courage is overcoming fears of other than bodily harm while doing what is right, even if doing what is right is unpopular.”

• 2 Corinthians 4:7-12
