Purpose of Foundation Plan

• To identify all of the significant components necessary for a foundation as prescribed by local and national codes.

• To show where walls, drains, electrical, plumbing, and support systems are located within the plan.

Foundation Plan

• The foundation plan is usually the plan that indicates exactly where the above ground structure is being built.

Basement Plan

The basement plan not only indicates where the

above ground structure is being built, but because

this is usually an underground room, the same

requirements are needed to indicate what is being

placed in this “room” to make it functional. This

“room” will need to be made water resistant so that

seepage will not occur. Because of certain water

tables are basements are not practical in some parts

of the country.

Style and Shape of House

• Consider geographical location of the property it will be located on.

• Consider where load-bearing walls and components are in your home.

Steps for Sketching the Plan

1. Select the scale.

(Residential is usually drawn ¼” = 1’-0” scale.)

2. Use the floor plan and its dimensions to draw the

foundation plan.

3. Sketch the walls, piers, pilasters, foundation for

fireplace, and chimney.

Steps for Sketching the Plan4. Sketch the breaks in the foundation wall for

windows, doors, access holes, and vents.

5. Lay out and sketch the footings – for the foundation walls.– for piers and columns.– for fireplace and chimney

6. Locate supporting beam if required.

7. Show size, spacing, direction of floor joists or

trusses.

8. Draw and dimension the necessary sections.

CADD Draw Foundation Plan

• The procedures are basically the same as the steps for sketching the Foundation Plan.

• Differences – – Drawing is created at full scale– Appropriate scale is selected when the

drawing is plotted
