FADE IN:

EXT. SAN FRANCISCO - DAY

The TARDIS arrives on a thriving city street in the middle of San Francisco. THE DOCTOR - dressed in his typical edwardian outfit - steps out and bumps straight into:

THE DOCTOR Grace?

GRACE looks back bemused.

GRACEDoctor? Doctor, I’ve already told you. I can’t cope with your life.

THE DOCTOR I know that, Grace. That’s not the reason I’m here.

GRACEIs that true, huh? How about you try living my life seeing as you keep trying to force me into your’s?

The Doctor sighs.

THE DOCTORGrace, I’ve already said I’m not here because of that. I totally understand. That life isn’t for everyone.

GRACEThen why are you here then?

THE DOCTORThat’s just it: I don’t know. Try asking the Mrs.

GRACESo you’re married now?

THE DOCTORWell, I suppose you could call her my wife...

Page 2: Copyright Dispute

GRACEDoctor, I don’t understand.

THE DOCTORYou’ve already met her.

Grace follows the Doctor’s glance to the TARDIS.

GRACE (UNIMPRESSED)

You’re married to your machine?

THE DOCTORNot exactly. But she’s like my wife.

Look, remember when I told you she takes me where I need to go?

Grace nods.

THE DOCTOR (CONT’D)Well, that’s what she’s done here. But I don’t quite know why yet.

INT. MCDONALDS - DAY

The Doctor and Grace are sat at a dirty table opposite opposite the door. On their table is a tray with their 20 Chicken Nuggets sharebox and fries. The Doctor eats a nugget and grimaces in disgust.

THE DOCTORDo you humans always eat this rubbish? So greasy and full of salt.

GRACE It’s not bad as a last resort.

A man dressed in a RONALD MCDONALD costume enters; the kids crowd round him as though they’re celebrating a local celebrity. Suddenly a loud noise is heard and a giant metallic ROBOT storms inside.

GRACE (CONT’D)Oh no. Doctor, we’ve got to go. Now.

2.

Page 3: Copyright Dispute

THE DOCTORWhy? Grace, what’s going on?

GRACEYou’ll soon see.

The robot stomps towards Ronald McDonald and locks his wrist in a tight grip.

ROBOTYou don’t own the rights to this character.

RONALD MCDONALDN-no, I was hired by the rights holder. I swear!

Ronald McDonald screams as the robot drags him out.

GRACEYou’re coming round to my house. We’ll be safe there.

THE DOCTOR Excellent. Do you still have that Puccini CD?

GRACE(LAUGHS)

Oh, Doctor. You never change.

THE DOCTOROh, I do. But I haven’t since we last met.

INT. GRACE’S LIVING ROOM - DAY

The Doctor and Grace are sat on a sofa having a cup of tea. Puccini is playing on the stereo in the corner of the room.

THE DOCTORWhy were you so worried back at the restaurant?

GRACEYou don’t own me.

THE DOCTORI didn’t mean to offend you. It was just a shock to see a strong, independent woman such as yourself act so deeply afraid.

3.

Page 4: Copyright Dispute

GRACEYou misunderstand, Doctor. I meant you literally don’t own me.

THE DOCTORThe robot mentioned something about rights...

GRACEThat’s because they were brought in to deal with copyright disputes. There was a little pressure on the government from the movie and music industries. They were desperate for help in dealing with it.

THE DOCTORAnd now they’ve took it too far...

The Doctor places his cup of tea down on the table; it’s now empty.

THE DOCTOR (CONT’D)Tell me, Grace. Do you have any fancy dress costumes?

GRACEThis isn’t the time for a party!

THE DOCTORNo, no. I perfectly understand that. But if these robots were to, say, see me dressed as Disney’s Cinderella they’d come after me. Right?

GRACEYou can’t do that. For one thing, Cinderella is a woman and you’re a man. Plus you’ll get yourself arrested.

THE DOCTORStory of my life.

GRACEWhy are you so mad?

(Beat)Besides, I don’t have any fancy dress costumes anyway.

THE DOCTORWhat about your nurse uniform?

4.

Page 5: Copyright Dispute

GRACEFine. I’ll get you that. But you better not get it dirty. It’s meant for work, not cosplay.

INT. HALLWAY - DAY

Grace runs upstairs and comes down in a Wonder Woman fancy dress costume. She chases towards the door just as the Doctor exits the living room.

THE DOCTORGRACE! NO!

Grace exits.

The Doctor ascends the stairs.

INT. GRACE’S BEDROOM - DAY

The Doctor enters Grace’s bedroom and opens her wardrobe, pushing through the clothes to find her nurse uniform. He puts it on and exits the room.

INT. HALLWAY - DAY

The Doctor opens the door and runs out.

EXT. FIELD - DAY

The Doctor spots a robot heading towards a field and follows. Stood among the grass is Grace, shivering in her light fancy dress.

ROBOT (TO GRACE)You do not own the rights to this character.

The robot grabs Grace’s wrist and drags her away. The Doctor gives chase, however the robot teleports before he has a chance to stop it.

THE DOCTORGrace...

A few minutes later, the robot teleports back. Grace is notably absent.

THE DOCTOR (FURIOUS) (CONT’D)Where have you taken her?

ROBOTGrace Holloway is in a dedicated arrestment area.

5.

Page 6: Copyright Dispute

THE DOCTORYou’ve arrested her? For wearing fancy dress? What about me? I’m not a nurse and I don’t own this design. This is clearly a breach of copyright.

The robot stays silent for a few minutes.

ROBOTAnalysis complete. You are in breach of copyright.

THE DOCTORSo are you going to take me away too, eh?

ROBOT Analysis tells me you want to be taken to a dedicated arrestment area. Another punishment will be found.

THE DOCTORThis is ridiculous. Why would I want to be arrested?

ROBOTScanning neural responses.

Again, the robot falls silent.

ROBOT (CONT’D)You want to find Grace Holloway. This cannot be allowed!

THE DOCTORExcellent analysis. Now may I suggest you see a engineer for repairs?

ROBOTNo repairs are needed to this model.

The Doctor takes out his Sonic Screwdriver and aims it at the robot. A small explosion from inside the robot is heard and its metallic chest plate falls off.

THE DOCTORNow they are!

6.

Page 7: Copyright Dispute

ROBOTEmergency back-up needed. Target is hostile.

More robots teleport into sight as the Doctor runs back towards the road. The robots fire lightning beams through their arms as the Doctor spots a Mini parked opposite the road and sonics it into life.

As the Doctor speeds down the road, one of the robots’ lightning beams hits the mini’s bottom left tyre and the tyre immediately gains a puncture. The Doctor carries on regardless, until another lightning beam hits the Mini’s bonnet and it engine stops. The robots approach the Doctor and march him away from the vehicle.

INT. PRISON CELL - DAY

Grace is sitting on the bed in her prison cell when her cell mate JOHN (30’s, thin, about the height of Richard Hammond) enters. The cell is small and rather basic, with only a bunk bed in the far left of the room.

John sits next to Grace and places his arm round her.

JOHNDon’t know what someone as beautiful as you is doing here.

GRACESame reason as you. ‘Breaking copyright’, apparently.

You never said: what exactly did you do that landed you in here?

JOHNI dared to wear a Simpsons t-shirt.

GRACELet me guess: you don’t own the rights to Homer Simpson?

JOHN (LAUGHS)

I don’t know how you worked that one out...

GRACEI’m clever like that.

(Beat)Not as clever as my friend, though.

7.

Page 8: Copyright Dispute

JOHNYour friend?

GRACEHe’s called the Doctor. And if we’re gonna have a chance to get out of here, we better hope he manages to find his way to this prison.

JOHNI hope he doesn’t arrive too soon. I’m enjoying my time with you here.

GRACECarry on like that and you may get to give me CPR.

Both Grace and John beam at each other; however, a robot swiftly approaches and enters the cell.

ROBOTYou are enjoying your imprisonment. This is not a sufficient punishment.

The robot drags John out of the cell and teleports. Grace sighs and climbs into bed.

EXT. THE ROAD OPPOSITE THE FIELD - DAY

Two robots now have the Doctor in a tight grip; it is late afternoon and the sun is about to set on the road opposite the field. As dusk begins to fall, the Doctor suddenly gains an idea...

THE DOCTORYou know, I don’t own this piece of road...

ROBOT 1Checking records.

The robots fall silent for a few minutes.

ROBOT 2That is correct. You do not own this road.

THE DOCTORThen you better punish me, I guess.

ROBOT 1You want to be punished.

8.

Page 9: Copyright Dispute

THE DOCTOROh, I may want to be punished. But what else can you do if someone breaks the law? Give them a lolly pop?

ROBOT 2You are correct. There is no alternative.

THE DOCTORGood. Well, I’m glad we’ve got that sorted.

ROBOT 1We will scan for a sufficient punishment.

THE DOCTORWhat? No! You can’t do that. I want the same punishment as everyone else. Isn’t that fair?

ROBOT 2That is not a suitable punishment. Scanning for sufficient punishment.

Once again, the robots remain silent.

ROBOT 1You will be exiled to a specific timezone....

THE DOCTOR(INTERRUPTS)

Oh no. Not again...

ROBOT 1This will be on a planet other than Earth.

The robots and the Doctor disappear, leaving the road once again empty.

EXT. MORTOPIA SURFACE - DAY-NIGHT

They arrive on a purple city street heaving with people of all colours and sizes. Small yellow men, large red children, fat purple women... There is no limit to the different types of people present here.

The robots let go of the Doctor and disappear.

9.

Page 10: Copyright Dispute

THE DOCTORMortopian robots. I knew it. Only the Mortopians would be capable of robots as stupid as them.

The Doctor heads down the high street. On the planet of Mortopia, it is currently both day and night at the same time. A single sun stands proudly in front of the dark night sky as people go about their day walking in and out of shops and grabbing a bite to eat at various restaurants, pubs and other eating establishments dotted around.

The Doctor spots a large, rather old looking building labelled as the ‘Tourist Information Centre’ and enters.

INT. TOURST INFORMATION CENTRE - DAY-NIGHT

The Doctor enters, smiling at the other tourists staring at his strange appearance.

One thing the robots didn’t know: he has a plan.

A MULTICOLORED ASSISTANT is stood behind the Tourist Information Centre desk; female, half bald with a short patch of blonde hair on the right side of her forehead. The Doctor approaches the desk.

THE DOCTORHello. Do you know where the nearest space dock is?

MULTICOLORED ASSISTANTIs this a joke?

THE DOCTORWould I joke around with someone as pretty as you?

MULTICOLORED ASSISTANT (BLUSHING)

It’s about a ten minute walk from here. Just north of Frasgarren street.

THE DOCTOR (KISSES HER HAND)Thank you.

MULTICOLORED ASSISTANTAny time.

The Doctor exits.

INT. PRISON CELL - DAY

Grace is lying on her prison bed; she is bored and anxiously waiting for the Doctor to turn up and help her. Where was he?

As if to answer her question, a robot opens her cell door and stomps inside.

ROBOTYou have one visitor waiting.

INT. PRISON CORRIDOR - DAY

The robot escorts her down the prison corridor...

INT. VISITING ROOM - DAY

...and into a visiting room. She spots the Doctor sat at the one of the prison tables and the robot escorts her to the seat opposite him. He smiles.

THE DOCTORHello Grace.

GRACEYou took your time.

THE DOCTORI’d like to see you try to stow aboard a Mortopian spaceship.

GRACEWell, it can’t be any harder than trying to operate surgery on a patient with two hearts.

THE DOCTOROh, that’s easy if you know how.

GRACESo what are we going to do, Doctor? How are we going to escape? There’s a robot watching this very conversation.

THE DOCTORI can sort that.

The Doctor takes out his Sonic Screwdriver and whirrs at the robot.

THE DOCTOR (CONT’D)The robot will now be out of action for a few minutes.

11.

Page 12: Copyright Dispute

Sorry, I can’t do better than that but it gives us ample time to escape.

GRACEAmple time? I’m wearing heels. And we’ve got to rescue John too.

THE DOCTOR...John?

GRACEMy cell mate. The robots took him because we were having too much fun together.

THE DOCTORWhat kind of ‘fun’?

GRACEAre you jealous?

THE DOCTORNo....okay, maybe a little. After all, you are a very smart and may I say very beautiful young woman.

GRACEAnd you don’t stay around any longer than it takes to boil a kettle!

THE DOCTOR Neither does he.

GRACEHe can’t help being captured!

THE DOCTORI can’t help my addiction to travelling the universe!

GRACEYou could try rehabilitation.

THE DOCTOROh no, why would I do that? That would be boring.

GRACEWell, you can’t blame me for going after another man then. Besides, we’re wasting far much time.

THE DOCTOR (CONT’D)

12.

Page 13: Copyright Dispute

If we don’t hurry up the robot will be active and we won’t be able to escape the others in here.

THE DOCTOR (MUTTERS TO HIMSELF)

Mental note: must remember to charge my Sonic Screwdriver before stepping out of the TARDIS in future.

The Doctor and Grace sneak out.

INT. PRISON CORRIDOR - NIGHT

The Doctor and Grace walk down one of the corridors in the prison site, Grace looking into each cell for sign of her friend John.

GRACEThere’s not many robots operating round here...

THE DOCTORYes, good point. It’s almost like they’ve been expecting us. Planning even to let us escape...

As if on cue, an army of robots appear carrying a docile John.

ROBOT 1You do not own the rights to Grace Holloway. You will return Grace to us or we will kill John McAllister.

THE DOCTORThat’s ridiculous. Nobody owns the rights to a living being.

ROBOT 2The rights to Grace Holloway belong to Mr Jonathan Fox and Mrs Maria Universal. You are breaching copyright.

THE DOCTORWhat about this prison? We don’t own the rights to this prison either! We shouldn’t be here.

ROBOTSSearching database...

GRACE (CONT'D)

13.

Page 14: Copyright Dispute

The robots all fall silent.

ROBOT 2That is correct. You do not own the rights to the prison building. You and the inhabitants of this prison will be escorted to a rights-free area.

The robots grab the Doctor and Grace and they dissapear, leaving a empty corridor behind.

EXT. CLOUD - NIGHT

The robots reappear with the Doctor, Grace and John on a gigantic cloud. Gradually, more and more people from the prison begin to appear and the robots disappear, leaving them stranded.

THE DOCTORNobody owns the rights to a cloud, you see.

GRACEThat’s all well and good but how are we supposed to get off here?

THE DOCTORPatience, Grace. I have my Sonic Screwdriver.

The Doctor tries to operate the Sonic but it refuses to work; not even the light at the end shows any signs of life.

THE DOCTOR (CONT’D)Great. Its run out of charge.

John approaches the Doctor and Grace.

JOHNPerhaps I can help?

He takes out a small tablet device and lays it flat down on the palm of his hand.

THE DOCTOROh yeah? And what exactly are you going to do: check the latest news headlines?

GRACEDoctor, that’s rude!

(to John)(MORE)

14.

Page 15: Copyright Dispute

Sorry about him. He’s jealous of our ‘fun’.

JOHN (TO GRACE)Maybe we could have some ‘actual fun’ later?

(TO THE DOCTOR)For your information, my idea is to ‘buy’ the rights to everything. That way, what objection could the robots have to returning us home?

THE DOCTOR (SCOFFS)

Good luck raising the money for that.

(TO GRACE)Oh, and Grace? Please don’t have any ‘fun’ with him up here. Some of us would rather not see.

GRACE(CHUCKLES)

It’s alright, Doctor. We didn’t have that kind of ‘fun’ at the prison anyway.

THE DOCTORJust normal fun?

GRACEIf you can call having a conversation dressed as Wonder Woman in a prison operated by a gang of robots obsessed with copyright ‘normal’, that is.

THE DOCTOROh, that’s alright then. May I deeply apologize for my behaviour earlier, John?

JOHNIt’s fine. Jealousy makes monsters of us all.

THE DOCTORYou still haven’t told me how you’re going to get the money to buy the rights.

JOHNThat’s because I’m not going to use money. I’m going to forge it.

GRACE (CONT'D)

15.

Page 16: Copyright Dispute

INT. PRISON CONTROL ROOM - NIGHTThe robots are stood in front of a panel of controls in the prison’s control room. Around six or seven screens surround them, each one showing empty prison cells. Only robots remain.

ROBOTSInstalling new updates to the database.

EXT. CLOUD - NIGHT

The prisoners are all gathered around John, the Doctor and Grace.

JOHNJust creating the transaction...

INT. PRISON CONTROL ROOM - NIGHT

The robots stand silent.

ROBOT 1The prisoners now own the rights.

The robots disappear.

EXT. CLOUD - NIGHT

The robots reappear on the cloud; each one grabs two prisoners and teleports down to the planet below.

EXT. GRACE’S HOUSE - NIGHT

Robot 2, the Doctor, Grace and John arrive outside of Grace’s house in San Francisco.

THE DOCTORAre you happy now? Many people will be homeless now because of the amount of money they’d have to pay for the rights.

ROBOT 2Our database picks up no signs of an increase in humans on the street.

THE DOCTOROkay, so they may not be homeless. But they’re in debt. And struggling.

16.

Page 17: Copyright Dispute

Some may even be finding it hard to afford the food and drink, the clothes and so on that they need.

ROBOT 2Would you like to complain to management?

THE DOCTORYou mean the people who sold you to the U.S. Government? Yes, I would indeed.

GRACEI’m coming with you!

THE DOCTORNo, Grace. You’re staying here. We have no idea what kind of people are behind the distribution of these robots to the U.S. government. Just like the people of Earth, Mortopia is divided by the good and bad of society. I’m not having you in danger if the management turn nasty.

John steps forward and puts his arm around Grace.

JOHNHe’s right, Grace. We should stay here.

THE DOCTOR(SMILES)

John will look afer you until I’m back. See you soon.

The robot grabs the Doctor’s hand and they disappear.

INT. OFFICE - DAY

Robot 2 and the Doctor appear in a small office. The desk is untidy with papers scattered around it and the name plaque is damaged showing the manager’s name as ‘G rrett Baldin’. GARRETT BALDIN is sitting behind the desk, his silver skin and bald head glinting in the light of the office.

THE DOCTORGarrett Baldin, I assume?

GARRETT BALDINYeah. And you must be the Doctor. We were warned of your arrival.

THE DOCTOR (CONT'D)

17.

Page 18: Copyright Dispute

THE DOCTORAs you should be. And I’m not happy.

GARRETT BALDINI’m sorry to hear that. What’s the problem?

THE DOCTORWhy are you selling these useless robots to the U.S. Government?

GARRETT BALDINThey offered a healthy sum. There’s a lot of money to make through the sales of Earth currency here on Mortopia.

THE DOCTORGreed. I knew it.

GARRETT BALDINNot greed. Survival. We all need to feed ourselves, as you yourself told the robots.

THE DOCTORHow do you know that?

GARRETT BALDINI have a built-in Bluetooth chip.

Garrett lifts his head open to reveal circuitry inside.

INT. GRACE’S BEDROOM - NIGHT

Grace is asleep in bed next to John; the room is pitch-dark, the curtains closed tightly. Night has drawn in.

She is awoken by the sound of the TARDIS engines; Grace sits up excitedly expecting to see the Doctor. Instead, a MAN she does not recognise steps out followed by one of the robots.

ROBOT The police box has been returned to its copyright holder.

INT. OFFICE - DAY

The Doctor is stood gawping at Garrett Baldin’s chip.

18.

Page 19: Copyright Dispute

GARRETT BALDINLike it, Doctor? I had it especially installed to communicate with my robots and...moderate things.

THE DOCTORLike what?

GARRETT BALDINWell, for instance: your friend committed fraud. The data was sent wirelessly to me via bluetooth. I checked my accounts to find no such payment had been made.

(Beat.)Even you know that’s not right, Doctor.

THE DOCTORNeither is sending corrupt robots to a planet that has only nursery-level experience with dealing with them.

Garrett begins to circulate the Doctor.

GARRETT BALDINRight now, there’s a robot about to capture your friends Grace Holloway and John McAllister. If no payment is made for the copyright, then they will not hesitate in killing them.

THE DOCTORHow much do you need?

GARRETT BALDINTwenty billion in U.S. Dollars.

THE DOCTORNo deal.

Garrett remains silent.

THE DOCTOR (CONT’D)What are you doing?

GARRETT BALDINSending the order.

19.

Page 20: Copyright Dispute

INT. GRACE’S BEDROOM - NIGHT

The robot fires in the direction of Grace and John; they dodge the laser and run behind the robot, pushing past the guy stood anxiously behind and into the TARDIS.

INT. TARDIS - NIGHT

The robot follows inside and shoots, accidentally hitting the console and causing a spark to erupt from the diagnostic controls.

GRACEI’m guessing whatever the Doctor’s said hasn’t gone down well.

JOHNNo. But what’s important right now is getting you safe.

GRACEWhat about you?

JOHNI don’t care about what happens to me as long as I know you’re alive.

INT. TARDIS CORRIDOR - NIGHT

They run through the TARDIS corridors and into the nearest room to the left.

INT. SWIMMING POOL - NIGHT

The robot follows them inside, continuing to fire lightening bolts. Grace suddenly has an idea and grabbing John’s hand, jumps into the pool.

Grace watches as the robot jumps in with them, expecting the robot to be electrocuted.

Nothing happens.

INT. OFFICE - DAY

The Doctor scowls at Garrett.

THE DOCTORHow dare you.

GARRETT BALDIN(SHRUGS)

No money, no rights, no right to live.

20.

Page 21: Copyright Dispute

THE DOCTORWhy can’t you listen? Your robots have taken copyright too far.

GARRETT BALDIN All the more reason to send them over-planets. More repairs, more money.

THE DOCTORYou should care more about the value of light than money, Garrett. You’re about to kill two innocent people. Why can’t you see that’s worse than breaching copyright?

GARRETT BALDINYou can’t break the law and expect to get away.

THE DOCTORBUT YOU’RE BREAKING THE LAW TOO! Or should we make a special exception for you?

GARRETT BALDINNobody will know about my involvement in the murder of your friends. They’ll just assume they took their own lives.

THE DOCTORI’ll know, though. What if I tell them?

GARRETT BALDINThen you will never see your blue box again.

INT. SWIMMING POOL - NIGHT

Grace and John climb out of the pool and open the back door to find...

Nothing.

Nothing but space.

The robot catches up to them and fires at Grace. John dives in front and takes the lightening bolt directly in the heart.

GRACE...JOHN!

21.

Page 22: Copyright Dispute

INT. OFFICE - DAY

Garrett Baldin stands silent.

GARRETT BALDINYour one down, Doctor. John McAllister is dead.

THE DOCTORWhat about Grace?

GARRETT BALDINShe is cornered. In a matter of seconds, she’ll be dead also.

The Doctor suddenly has an idea.

THE DOCTORIf you let me and my companion go and stop the shipment of robots to the U.S., I’ll take you to the Planet of Wealth.

GARRETT BALDINI will accept your offer, Doctor but rest assured that if you pull any tricks, I’ll see to it that you lose your blue box forever.

THE DOCTORI promise you, Garrett. I won’t trick you.

INT. SWIMMING POOL - NIGHT

Grace screws her eyes tight waiting for her inevitable death when....nothing happens.

The robot just stands. Motionless.

Confused, Grace pushes the robot through the back door and turns around to find the Doctor and a man she doesn’t recognise behind her.

THE DOCTORThis is Garrett Baldin, the man behind the robots. I’ve promised to take him to the Planet of Wealth.

GRACEWhat?!? His robots KILLED OUR FRIEND.

22.

Page 23: Copyright Dispute

THE DOCTORAnd I’m sorry, Grace. But I had no choice otherwise you’d be dead too.

GRACEI’d rather it had been me who was killed.

THE DOCTORYou don’t mean that. You’ve just been through a hard time.

GARRETT BALDINPlease, hurry and take me to the Planet of Wealth. I want to accept my rightful place with the business people of the galaxy.

THE DOCTORI’m not sure about rightful...

GARRETT BALDINI could destroy your ship with just a few business calls right now, Doctor...

THE DOCTOROkay, I’ll shut up.

INT. CONSOLE ROOM - DAY

The Doctor operates a few levers and buttons on the console and the TARDIS groans into life.

EXT. PLANET - DAY

The TARDIS arrives on a barren wasteland. The Doctor pushes Garrett out and dematerializes the TARDIS.

INT. TARDIS - DAY

The Doctor turns from the console to face Grace.

THE DOCTORMy Grace. My brave Grace. Can I let you in on a secret?

GRACEGo on then. Reveal all.

THE DOCTORI didn’t really drop Garrett off on the Planet of Wealth. I dropped him on the Planet of Poverty.

23.

Page 24: Copyright Dispute

EXT. PLANET OF POVERTY - DAY

Garrett is standing in the middle of a crater on the Planet of Poverty, surrounded by the bodies of dead parents and their children.

GARRETT BALDINI’ll get you for this, Doctor. Just you wait. Your blue box will be no more.

EXT. GRACE’S HOUSE - DAY

The TARDIS arrives outside Grace’s house.

THE DOCTORSo. What do you say, Grace? Do you want to give TARDIS travelling another go?

GRACEYou know what, Doctor?

(Beat)I think I’ve changed my mind.

THE DOCTORGreat! Come on, Grace. We’ve got a universe to explore.

GRACEJust let me pay a visit to John’s family first.

THE DOCTOROf course. It’s perfectly understandable under the circumstances.

INT. FUNERAL SERVICE - DAY

The TARDIS arrives during the funeral of John McAllister. Grace walks down the aisle towards the TARDIS in frustration.

GRACEWhat bit about ‘respect for the deceased’ do you not understand, Doctor?

THE DOCTORSorry. I just wondered if you want to start your travels now.

24.

Page 25: Copyright Dispute

GRACENow is not the time. Just give me a bit of space, okay?

THE DOCTOROf course. I understand.

EXT. GRAVEYARD - DAY

Grace is leaving flowers on John’s grave. The TARDIS materializes behind her and she turns around in frustration. The Doctor steps out.

THE DOCTORAre you ready yet, Grace?

GRACENo! I said I wanted some space.

THE DOCTOROf course. I understand.

GRACEYou said that last time!

THE DOCTORI mean it this time!

GRACEAnd you didn’t before?

THE DOCTORNo, I did. I just-

GRACEOh, shut up Doctor. Come back this evening and I promise I’ll be ready for you.

INT. GRACE’S BEDROOM - NIGHT

Grace is awoken by the TARDIS engines. The Doctor steps out.

THE DOCTORGrace. Are you ready?

GRACEJust one minute, Doctor.

THE DOCTOROh, forget it. You never wanted to travel with me, did you Grace?

25.

Page 26: Copyright Dispute

GRACEI didn’t before. But I do now. It’s just...

(Sighs)This is where me and John slept together. On the night of his death.

The Doctor moves to comfort Grace.

THE DOCTORHe was a brave man. I may have been jealous of him but I was wrong. He deserved you.

GRACEThank you. See: that’s understanding.

THE DOCTORNow: can we please begin our adventure?

GRACEYou know what, Doctor? Now that you’ve shown you understand?Of course we can.

Grace enters the TARDIS with the Doctor. It dematerialises, leaving a empty bedroom behind.

THE END
