Coloring as a Meditative ProcessYou can use this coloring book not only for pleasure, but also for healingtherapy. Many people choose to use coloring, or other forms of art, as ameditative process in which they begin to see the multiple layers of otheraspects of their lives. The affirmations and designs in this book have beencreated so that you can use them in your meditative practice to bring aboutpositive changes in your life. You can take any approach that you like when itcomes to using coloring meditatively, however if you are new to the idea ofcoloring as a therapeutic tool, you can follow these suggestions forincorporating meditation and art into your life.

· The first step is to set the scene appropriately. Set your surroundingswith things that make you comfortable and relaxed. Some peopleprefer to color at a desk, dining table, the floor or even outdoors. Go tothe place that you feel you will most be able to let your body relax,where you won’t suffer distractions and where your environmentcontributes to a sense of peace and oneness.

· Have everything you need close by. Items to have close at handinclude your coloring book, whatever medium you choose to color with,and associated tools such as sharpeners or brushes, and a protectiveblotter sheet if you are using markers. · Next, while you need adequate lighting in order to color, you may alsolike to add the soft glow of candlelight to your creative space. Lightlyscenting the wax with an essential or fragrance oil that supports yourcreativity is a nice, relaxing touch.

· Now, you are finally ready to begin. Sit quietly with your book andlook over the images. Even if you already have the one that you want tocolor picked out, just taking a moment to explore the others and thepositivity contained within them will add more depth to your coloringexperience. Once you have an image picked out, sit with it for a minuteand reflect on what the affirmation means to you and how you wish topositively affect your life by inviting it into your life. · You may wish to color your image in one sitting, or take a differentapproach and work on it over a series of sessions, each one bringingyou deeper into the affirmation itself. There are many different tools that youcan use to add color to your affirmations. I recommend taking a leisurely tripto your local art supply or craft store and taking some time exploring all ofyour different options. You can keep it simple and classic with crayons oryou may choose to go more elaborate and use fine tipped brushes to applypaints or even chalks. How you choose to color your pages are up to you.Here we have provided an overview of the basic and most popular mediumsfor coloring. Colored Pencils: Many adults prefer coloring with pencils opposed tocrayons. This is because colored pencils add the opportunity for differenttextures and techniques without sacrificing the vast color variety that comeswith the class crayon. Not only are more people familiar with colored pencils,but they are also easy to find in a variety of price ranges. If you choosecolored pencils as your preferred medium, you will be able to blend colorsand soften lines to create unique effects. Depending on the type of pencilyou choose, your lines can be hard or soft, rigged or smudged with colorsthat can blend beautifully. What you want to look for when choosing colored pencils is the combinationof pigment and wax, along with the quality of each. The more wax content acolored pencil has, the more soft your touch will need to be. A higher waxcontent also means they will smudge easier. pencil that is a little more solid and rigid. Quality pigment ensures that yourcolor is vibrant, true and resists fading over the long term. Perhaps the greatest benefit of choosing colored pencils as your choicemedium is the range of choices that you have. Colored pencils of goodquality are available in a wide range of prices and are available both ascomplete sets, and individual pencils that you can use to custom build yourcollection over time. If you are new to coloring, I recommend choosing abasic set that is a couple of steps up in quality from the basic colored pencilsthat are popular with children. Also, make sure that you invest in qualitysharpening tools to get the best performance from your pencils. Artist Crayons: Let’s say that you love coloring with crayons, but seeksomething that feels a bit more grown up then your favorite childhoodcrayon. The answer that you are looking for likely is contained in what isknown as an artist’s crayon, which is also often called pastels. There arehard and soft pastels available. marks. These are the lines that you can see where the strokes were applied,or where more pressure was placed in a particular spot. A good qualitymarker will have fewer, if any of these lines. Along with this, better qualitymarkers offer a wider range of pigmentation in the inks, which is importantsince most markers do not allow for layering and blending the way that apencil or crayon might. Markers give you a very bold image, one that stands out. This type ofmedium is perfect for images such as these affirmations in which you wantthe message and the associated design to speak to you and to implant itselfin your memory each time that you look at it. The only negatives to usingmarkers instead of other mediums is that there is little room for error inapplication, color choice may be somewhat limited depending on brand andtype of marker chosen and they do have a tendency to bleed though. No matter what your choice of medium, make sure that you have fun with it.Coloring is enjoyable, relaxing and expressive.
