Greetings, We have made it through winter. Spring is upon us…or at least we hope. You never know in Northeast Ohio. Either way our spring sports and activities are underway. Students are preparing for the upcoming Ohio Graduation Tests and counting down the days to spring break. March brings many important events and milestones as we head into the homestretch following spring break. The Ohio Graduation test will be administered to all Sophomores and any Juniors or Seniors that need to pass a portion of the test on March 15th through March 19th. Both teams have students that have qualified for tournaments at the state and/or national levels. Good luck to both teams. A congratulations is also extended to our winter athletes that have recently wrapped-up their seasons. I would especially like to commend wrestler Sam Wheeler for winning the Suburban League title with a 42-0 record. Please contact me at any time if you have questions or concerns. If you are careful when you fill out your application, your interviewer will

tend to think you would be a careful worker too. • Be neat. Print or write clearly so that it can be easily read. • Be complete. Answer every question. If a question does not apply to you, write none or draw a line in

the blank to show you did not overlook it. • Be accurate. Read everything on the application carefully before you start to fill in the blanks. This will

keep you from making mistakes. Be sure your spelling is correct. • Find out what is meant by certain abbreviations on the application form if you aren’t familiar

with them. Ask the person who gave you the application form. • List everything. List all of your education, experience, on-the-job training, or hobbies that have given

you skills for any type of work. • Describe your previous work experience accurately and completely. Employers are looking for

TEN WAYS TO TEST DRIVE A COLLEGE

1. Learn about the college before you visit.

2. Evaluate the environment of the campus.

3. Visit the admissions office and participate in the information session.

4. Tour the campus, with and without a guide.

5. Check out the dorms.

6. Arrange for campus meetings with department heads in the subjects that interest you, coaches in sports where you excel, and former graduates from your high school.

7. Sit in on classes and check out the library.

8. Look into life beyond academics.

9. Have lunch in the student center and watch student interactions.

10. After each visit, write down your impressions of the college.

A CHECK LIST FOR CAMPUS VISITS Timing Visits While it is all right to unofficially visit when you are still doing some general checking on colleges, when it comes time for a formal visit, be sure to schedule it ahead of time when you can arrange for both a campus tour and an interview. Plan your visit for a weekday when college is in session and avoid registration or exam periods. It helps to have walked around the campus – to get a feel for the institution – before going for your interview.

Campus Tour By all means, take the campus tour and don’t hesitate to ask questions of your guide. If the tour doesn’t include them, try to visit some student rooms, the library, and the department in which you may major. The Interview Dress appropriately and arrive five minutes early. Be prepared to answer such questions as “What makes you interested in our college?” and “What

are your special interests?” And ask some questions yourself, but not about things which could be answered if you had studied the catalog. Act very interested in the school and reiterate your interest at the end of the conversation. Ask if all your papers are in order, if it is that time of year. If you plan to file for financial aid, ask how and when that should be done.

Paper Work Bring along extra copies of your resume or summary to leave with the interviewer or others, if needed. Use the interviewer’s name and title when you write to thank him or her for the interview and to repeat your special interest in the school. Take along your file of papers on the school, just to refresh your memory or provide any missing information.

Free Time Spend some time on your own around the campus. Take a look at the times on the bulletin boards, news in the school paper, and the building which you’re most likely to use. How do you like the looks of the students? Would you fit in? Try to talk to some of them. Ask the prospective students with whom you took the campus tour about their impressions and comparisons with other schools which they have visited. Try to sit in on a class or two, hopefully in the area in which you may major. This may be arranged by the admissions office or perhaps by asking permission of the professor ahead of time.

Final Steps When you get a breather, sit down and write up your impressions of the school. What did you like? Not like? What questions remain? What actions do you need to take?

COPLEY MUSIC BOOSTERS

Next Meeting March 2, 7pm CHS Main Office Conference Room

A LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT

Hello Music Boosters and Families, If you listen carefully and pay attention, you can begin to hear the birds starting to sing which to me always means that spring is on the way. Although I have really enjoyed all the beautiful snow we have had this winter, green grass and warm temperatures will be a welcome sight. As always, the Music Boosters have been busy wrapping up the Basketball and Wrestling seasons with our concession sales. Many thanks to Sharon and Greg Schott for all of their volunteer time and effort staffing and organizing these concessions. What a big job and very nicely done. Kay Makishi and Pam Pelle did an outstanding job organizing the Night at the Races fundraiser on Saturday, February 27. For anyone who was not in attendance, you missed a wonderful event and should be sure to look for it next year. Thanks to Kay, Pam, and all who were involved with organizing the evenings festivities. As we transition into the spring activities, there are still quite a few volunteer opportunities with the Music Boosters. Copley will again this year host the Spring Ohio Music Education Association event at the High School on Friday, March 5 - Saturday, March 6. Mona Kotran is chairing this event and would welcome volunteers for any number of positions. Please feel free to contact Mona via email @ [email protected] if you are available. On Tuesday, March 23, CMB will be hosting a spaghetti supper at the High School prior to the Bands in the Round concert on that same day. Many thanks to Nicolette & Ren Koozer for chairing this spaghetti supper fundraiser. I hope all of the music families from the 5th - 12th grades will plan on letting us cook dinner for you that night while helping us with this delicious fundraiser. One more concession opportunity is still at hand and that is the spring track season. We will move from the indoor concessions and back down to the field for these events. Again, many volunteer opportunities are available for these competitions and I hope that you will sign up for a shift or two. If all of us only took a few turns at any one of a number of activities, we would have more than enough help! Keep an eye out for upcoming emails or phone calls requesting volunteer help and join in! I hope that everyone enjoys the change of seasons and offers volunteer support for our Boosters and students. Sincerely, Karen Martin CMB President
