FUNDRAISING IS SOCIAL

1. “Philanthropy is going to become a more donor-centric

experience, and non-profits will not be able to „own‟ the

donors, as people in the sector commonly say,” said Matt

Mahan, the vice president of social impact for Causes.

2. The Rising Importance of a Social Good Identity –“This is who

I am as defined by what I‟m doing to make the world a better

place”, said Jeffrey Wolfe, co-founder of Crowdrise.

3. “These platforms offer the ability to tell their stories, to

receipting donors, handling refunds and customer support, to

simple, robust reporting, to tools to empower peer and team

fundraising to widgets to distribute throughout the web…”

Sebastian Traeger, CEO of Razoo.

HOW IT WORKS (AN EVENT)

11

Elena cares about Max who

needs money for its

leukemia treatment.

She is a great cook and

loves chocolate. She decides

to organize a Choco Party

and adds the Event on

CoolCoz. She can keep up

to 30% of the money raised

to cover her expenses.

The Event is open to all the

community: her friends, the

people who care about Max,

the chocolate lovers,…

An Event can be small (a yoga class for a few people) or big (a rock

concert). It can be open to the entire community or only to your best

friends (your wedding). The price can be auctioned. Or fixed. Or left to

the generosity of the guests.

HOW IT WORKS (AN CHALLENGE )

Georges cares about an

Orphanage in Siberia.

He has great humor.

He decides to create a

crazy challenge on

CoolCoz: if people

donate RUR20,000 he

will cross Red Square in

a tutu. People‟s money

is deducted when

Georges posts a photo

or a video proving the

completion of its

challenge.

Challenges can be funny or serious. A fundraiser can create a challenge

for himself (if I manage to raise $500 for Cause X, I’ll…) or a donor can

create one for an individual or for the entire community (I donate $500

to Cause Y if…).
