PUBLIC LIBRARY KENTVILLE PUBLIC LIBRARY IS A COMMUNITY BUILDING THAT RECONNECTS KENT-VILLE’S NEGLECTED AND FORGOTTEN RIVERFRONT TO THE CITY GRID. THE AR-CHITECTURE STEMS FROM THE IDEA OF GIVING THE COMMUNITY A FORUM OVER WHICH A “SOCIAL BLANKET” IS DRAPED. THE BLANKET, WHICH DOUBLES AS AN EXTENSION OF THE NATURAL RIVERFRONT, IS SUBSEQUENTLY PUNCTUATED WITH THREE READING TOWERS THAT SUIT THE PRIVATE NATURE OF INDIVIDUAL READING.

SCHOOL OF MUSIC THE DALHOUSIE SCHOOL OF MUSIC IT SITED AT A MAJOR GATEWAY INTO THE CAMPUS. THE BUILDING’S GENTLY LIFTED FORM IS A WELCOMING GESTURE INTO BOTH THE UNIVERSITY CAMPUS AS WELL AS THE BUILDING ITSELF. THE MUSICAL REHEARSAL ROOMS AND PERFORMANCE SPACES OCCUPY ACOUSTICALLY SEPA-RATED “BOXES” OF VARIOUS SCALES THAT ARE PLACED AS IF ON DISPLAY FOR THE PUBLIC BEHIND THE GLASS FACADE OF THE BUILDING.

BOHEMIAN FLATSMINNEAPOLIS MNAIAS STUDENT COMPETITION

THIS REDEVELOPMENT OF A STRETCH OF UNUSED PARKLAND ALONG THE MIS-SISSIPPI WON WAS AWARDED THIRD PRIZE IN THE AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF ARCHI-TECTURE STUDENTS ANNUAL COMPETITION. THE PROJECT, HIGHLIGHTED BY A BEACON-LIKE OBSERVATION TOWER, WOULD BECOME A MAJOR SOCIAL NODE IN MINNEAPOLIS’ CULTURAL WATERFRONT AS WELL AS SERVING AS A REMINDER OF THE RICH SLAVIC COMMUNITY THAT ONCE OCCUPIED THE SITE.

PIER PAVILIONHALIFAX NSB1 DESIGN PROJECT

AN ANNEX TO THE MARITIME MUSEUM OF THE ATLANTIC, THIS PAVILION IS BUILT UPON AN EXISTING PIER ON THE HALIFAX WATERFRONT. THE INVERSE FORMS ARE DERIVED FROM THE RECIPROCATING RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN A MARITIME CITY AND THE SEA. WITHIN THESE FORMS THE VISITOR IS TAKEN ON A WALK THAT EXPOSES THEM TO THE SEA, THE CITY, AND FINALLY TO THE INTEGRATION OF THE TWO AS SEEN FROM THE ELEVATED ROOFTOP PIER.

THE ROOMMEADOW IN NSBI DESIGN PROJECT

THE CEDAR-CLAD BOX IS PERCHED PRECARIOUSLY UPON A CONCRETE WALL THAT SEEMINGLY VANISHES INTO THIS VAST MEADOW IN NOVA SCOTIA. THE ROOM AFFORDS THE OCCUPANT DISTANT VIEWS OVER THE COUNTRYSIDE AND OPTIMAL SOLAR CONDITIONS FOR THE FUNCTIONS THAT OCCUR WITHIN IT. THE ROOM IS A PLACE TO READ, TO REST; A PLACE TO WHICH ONE CAN ESCAPE TO.

TREEHUTB.C. FORESTDESIGN EXERCISE

A SHELTER WHOSE DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION ARE GUIDED BY ITS SITE. THIS HUT UTILIZES THE TREES OF THE FOREST BOTH A STRUCTURAL SYSTEM AND A FORM FINDER AS IS WEAVES IT WAY BETWEEN AND THROUGH THEM. IN THIS SHEL-TER ONE CAN REST, LIKE A BIRD OR A CHILD, UP OFF THE GROUND IN THE TREE CANOPY OR EVEN VENTURE FURTHER UP TO A LOOKOUT OVER THE HORIZON.

CINEMA ROOMNSCAD LOTFREELAB DESIGN BUILD

AN INTIMATE CINEMA TO SCREEN FILMS MADE AT THE NSCAD FILM SCHOOL. THE PROJECT WAS UNDERTAKEN BY MYSELF AND 6 OTHER ARCHITECTURE STUDENTS IN AN ATTEMPT TO BRIDGE THE DISCONNECT BETWEEN ARCHITECTURE, FILM AND OUR RESPECTIVE SCHOOLS. THE BUILDING PERFORMED AS A DEVICE TO PROJECT FILMS USING A 16MM PROJECTOR AND SEVERAL MIRRORS, SO THAT THE VIEWER WOULD BE ABLE TO SEE BOTH THE PROJECTOR AND THE FILM SIMULTANEOUSLY.

THE MAJORITY OF MY TIME AT COHOS EVAMY WAS SPENT WORKING ON THE REVONATION AND EXPANSION OF THE EDMONTON INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT. IN ADITION TO BEING RESPONSIBLE FOR COMPLETING A NUMBER OF PRESENTATION RENDERINGSOVER THE COURSE OF THE PROJECT, I PLAYED A LEAD ROLE IN DE-SIGNING VARIOUS ELEMENTS OF THE AIRPORT’S NEW RETAIL HALL INCLUDING THE EXPANSIVE GLAZING SYSTEM AND ITS STOREFRONT SCHEME.

WORKING WITH THE ST. JOSEPH’S SEMINARY TEAM, I WAS GIVEN THE TASK OF DESIGNING A SET OF 6 BRONZE DOORS FOR THE COMPLEX’S CHAPEL. GIVEN A SET OF WISHES FROM THE SEMINARIANS INCLUDING MEANINGFUL SCRIPTURE PASSAGES AND IMAGERY I DEVISED A SCHEME THAT DEPICTS THE FAITH AND HOPE OF JOHN 21:16. THE DOORS HAVE BEEN FABRICATED IN ACCORDANCE TO MY SKETCHES AND ARE CURRENTLY IN THE PROCESS OF BEING INSTALLED ON SITE.
