Concept Note on Events
“Converge –The Confluence of Industry and Academia”
The Institute calls forth the companies to send their senior professionals to discuss the contemporary topics through panel discussion along with Academia. Our intent is that students witness the merging of these two and learn to derive applied knowledge in specified area. The attempt is to bring out the latest and current topics making waves in the Industry and invite the experts to address these issues which are an amalgamation of major domains majorly Marketing, Information technology, Project, Finance and Analytics. Focus is to enhance and complement classroom learning and theoretical understanding with Industry relevant practices . Past converges saw topics like Contemporary trends in finance, Consumer Centricity, Neuro Marketing, Analytics in Marketing, Project Nuisances and many more. This is one of the many other events targeted to enhance industry Academia interface.

Finance Converge 2016: Report
On 30h July 2015, we were delighted to organize the flagship event of finance department,
which would be a milestone in the journey of SIOM, carrying forward the legacy of our senior
batches, ‘FINANCE CONVERGE 2016’. The Theme for this year was Contemporary trends
in finance and projects. This year we had the opportunity to host some of the impressive line of
speakers from the domain area of business consultancy, economist cum academics. The invitees
to grace the occasion and share their words of wisdom were,
Mr.Abhay Bhargava, Advisor Sahara Group.
Mr. Kavi chalam, Advisor Government of Madhya Pradesh.
The sessions started on the event day with lightening of the lamp by the dignitaries, Director
Dr. Vandana Sonwaney ,Dr. Shilpa Parkhi, Faculty in-charge and other faculty members.

Forenoon Sessions:
The first session of the day was addressed by Mr. Abhay Bhargava on the topic
Structuring business needs and managing stressed assets, where he shared his views of
understanding the needs of customers and going beyong call of duty in achieving success in
business. He also shared his experiences in handling stressed assets and non-performing assets.

The session was followed by an informative session on ‘Fiscal federalism in indian’, by Mr.
Kavi Chalam,. He imparted us knowledge on the field of central to state relationships, where in
he talked about role of the government, constitutional provisions, resource transfers etc.

It was followed by panel discussion on “ Risk management and control on large
complex projects”. The panel consitsted of two speakers from finance along with Mr
Chintan Oza,senior principle, Tata communications and Dr. Satish Bagal,Advisor
MMRDA.
The discussion was very fruitful as different perspectives of private and public projects
were discussed by the speakers.
Finance Quiz 2015 – Finals:
The finals of Fin.Quiz 2016, was conducted on the 28th July involving the 5 finalists after a
preliminary round which saw an overwhelming registration of 32 teams ( 96 Participants). Dr.
Satish Bagal, handed over the prizes for the top two winners, and goodies for the remaining
finalists. The winner of the competition was Team of Mohamed Salman, Avinash S and
Navaneeth S and the runners up were Team of Rohit Kumar, Rajesh H and PRS Sagar.

The Converge concluded with Vote of Thanks by the Convener, following the certificate
distribution. To encapsulate, Finance Converge 2016, was a learning and knowledge enriching
experience.

Debriefing / Minutes of Meeting :
The event started at 9:30AM with the lighting of the lamp and directors address. She welcomed the
guests to the campus and hoped for a fruitful discussion about the theme customer centricity and
Analytics.
Mr. Prakash Mohapatra then took the stage to talk about the topic customer centricity in the Modern
cognitive era where role of analytics in marketing is crucial.
Mr. Suresh Pai then talked about the three tales of digital, customer centricity and technology that is
changing the world. Due to technology and Digital Transformation the role of Big Data and
Analytics has very important place in the coming years.
This was followed by Mr. Aravind Kumar who talked about the pulse candy and the marketing and
role of data and analytics for the unique proposition to make this candy.
An eventful lunch was followed by the event idea hackathon where the student presented their ideas
about the digitalization of the customer interface of companies around Nasik and Mumbai.
This was followed by Mr.NC Gosavi who talked about the Legacy of Analytics and how it has
evolved in the past decade.
The event ended with the thank you note from Prof Aasha Sharma and Nikhita Joy.
