Evaluating Memoir WritingWhat is a memoir? Why is it important to capture your memories and leave a record? How do you write one? What if you can’t remember anything, or worse, what if you remember it all? What do you put in? What do you want your readers to know about you? Put your worries aside and decide to consider what you want future generations to know about you. This course of writing memoir is a way to figure out who you used to be and how you got to be who you are. You will find there are many reasons to go look and examine the journey of your life. For many we wish our ancestors had written down the history of their lives. Once they were gone, we had a hard time putting the pieces of their life together. This is a chance to reflect on the history of those who came before us and to leave an imprint of our self. Here you will have a chance to involve yourself in the process of writing or simply reflecting on where you are in life. Class includes journal. Tuesdays// April 3 – 17// 2:00 – 4:00 PMRoom: 238, $69, $10 discount for College of Emeriti members

Abe & Adolf We rightly think of Abraham Lincoln and Adolf Hitler as polar opposites. For most of us, they conjure images of good rather than evil, humility rather than arrogance, a war to liberate the enslaved rather than a war to enslave others. Although their responses differed dramatically, these world-changing figures shared a number of common problems. They both confronted the novelty of mass political parties in young democracies that struggled with national unity. They both worked within the dominant—and highly accepted—notion of race as a key to destiny. Finally, both men commanded huge military forces while waging a war unprecedented in scope and intensity. Join us as we explore these two different men, their divergent philosophies, and their legacies for our time.
