4 CREATE A PRICE LISTThis can take some time to work out, but start at prices you are comfortable with selling. You can always make adjustments. However… make sure you are actually making money out of your work!

MAP OUT THE CLIENT EXPERIENCE You’re not just selling artwork but also the memories that go with the moments you capture. People want great service with a great product. Create a mind map or write a systems and procedures pathway to make sure that each clients’ journey gives them a brilliant experience. Consider at which stage you give out information that tells them the next steps. Test and measure the results, then refine until it’s the ultimate experience for your clients.

GO TO MARKET! This is the classic tale of “What comes first - the chicken or the egg?”. Do you go straight to market and work out any hiccups as you go? Or do you take time to make sure you have all your steps in place before you go deep into marketing? Our traditional picture framing service combines fast turnaround time with customisable matboards and frame sizing. We use high quality acid-free materials combined with archival fine art printing on cotton rag papers for long-lasting, premium picture frames.

Our in-house printing means that you can simply upload your image and order a fully framed print that is ready to hang.

Our convenient ordering system allows you to order online. Quickly customise everything from mat size to choice of moulding. You will see instant proofs of all your choices (including mat and moulding colours).

We have deliberately kept things simple to ensure you can provide great products at an attractive price-point to your clients. We offer a range of customisations to create a unique look, including: floating prints, torn edge prints, deep mould frames and multiple-matted images.

We take a beautiful photographic print and mount it onto a 17mm raw timber panel (strong enough to resist moisture and humidity). We finish off the Wood Print with a slightly textured satin laminate for extra protection and a beautiful, soft finish.

The paper we use to create our fine art prints is made in the USA and is 100% cotton rag. Our paper has UK Fine Art Guild certification for a 75 year lifespan.

Fine Art prints are a great way of selling images to clients as they are not something your client can source from a retail lab.

The Lumi Grid is an exciting photographic product that is both modern and practical. Your clients can select three, four or nine of their favourite images for the grid.

Each image is printed on a 10cm x 10cm x 2cm Lumi Tile, which is then fitted into a custom designed, wall mounted grid. Even better, each tile is held in place with a magnet, allowing your clients to move them around the grid, creating a new look whenever they want.

Facebook competitions. Be clear on WHAT the competition is, WHO it is aimed at, and WHY they should enter.

Run a charity project. One of the biggest lead generators for our successful studios is to create a photographic experience where your photo shoot fee goes directly to a chosen charity. It makes the client feel great about booking with you

and they often buy images from the shoot.

Network groups. In the past, the only way to network was to attend physical meet ups. Now you can also join many Facebook groups that are set up for specific

audiences. Many of these groups allow you to advertise your business once or twice a week. Always contribute to the group with value on all the other days if you can. People

remember you when you contribute to conversations, add value and praise others.

Sponsor a gym. Offer to photograph the body transformations of members. You can also give the gym vouchers for photographic shoots that they can distribute to their

members.

Introduce a new photographic experience. This is to excite your existing clients to have another photoshoot with you. For example, if you photograph newborns, introduce a first birthday photo experience that includes a giant cupcake with

their shoot.

Partner with businesses to give gift certificates. Businesses are always looking for gifts they can give to their staff. Photographic

experiences are perfect as they can be enjoyed with their families. The person receiving the gift often values their employer more when they are seen to be appreciative of their

work.

Find out what your client does for a living. They might just be your next business alliance! The best alliances and referrals are the ones who have

already experienced your service.

Use emotive words in your marketing material. “Photo session” is boring and conjures up thoughts of a process, something you HAVE to do. “Photographic experience” conjures up the thought that something exciting is going to happen. Be proud of your offer and believe in your purpose so that your clients will too.

Create a joint marketing campaign with another small business. If you photograph women for boudoir shoots, meet with a local

boutique lingerie store, find out what they would love to sell more of and create a gift certificate tear off with an offer that every purchase over a certain value (determined by

the lingerie store and you) receives a boudoir photographic experience to the same value - the more they spend, the more they receive towards their photo shoot. Alternately, if

they spend over a certain amount, they receive a gift certificate of a set value.

If your target market is children and babies. Then align with daycare centres to photograph the graduation day of their final year in day care. By offering to capture milestones, rather than just their annual photos, you can increase the value you offer to the centre, as well as giving you a chance to promote your service to

the parents.

Always under promise and over deliver. Just as I have given you this one extra tip! Surprise your clients with their order earlier than expected. This

gives them one more reason to remember you and they are more likely to refer you to their friends.

Do a little marketing each day, don’t overwhelm yourself with finding a full day before you can get to marketing. Then set your next 30 days goal – find from this list what is achievable in the next 30 days to implement and just do that. Then set your next 30 days goal. Being overwhelmed leads to procrastination and not implementing your plan. This ultimately leads to stress and a failing business. A little marketing every day keeps the clients calling.

Finally, remember to find clients who VALUE what you do and REWARD you for it so that you can continue to LOVE photography!

A popular portrait product, this folio style box is designed to store Art Mounts (matted prints) while also being a feature in your client’s home. We offer two styles of Art Mount box. The first is a double sided timber box that is hand made in Australia. It stores 15 Art Mounts and can be easily turned around to allow your clients to show off different

images.

The second is a fully customisable box that can be covered in hemp, coated/uncoated cloth, leatherlook or photo wrap. They can be further personalised with foiling,

embossing, or USB inserts.

These present exceptionally well in your clients’ homes, and are often displayed on coffee tables, sideboards, shelving units and bookcases.

The design processWe believe most photographers want to spend more time behind their camera lens, and less time in front of a computer. Let us help by designing unique and customised albums for you.

Images can be provided via Dropbox or any other file transfer service. We recommend placing your images in just two folders: “Favourites” and “Maybes”. The images in the “Favourites” folder will all be used and will be featured throughout the album. The images in the “Maybes” folder will be used as fillers throughout the design and will support the featured images. They may not all be used.

Once we create a draft of your layout, we will email you a private link to your album via AlbumExposure. You can sign up for a free account with AlbumExposure and add your logo so your clients see your branding as they view their album. You can then share the album layout with your clients. They can add comments/changes on each layout. These will automatically be sent to our designers.

You will be notified of the revised draft when it is available. You can then either make further alterations or approve your album for production.

How many images do I send?A typical 15 spread/layout album will have approximately 60-75 images (average of 4-5 images per spread/layout).

How long does a design take?The design process will take up to seven working days after receipt of images. If you require a faster turnaround, please mention this when you place your order.

What if I want to change the draft design?AlbumExposure will enable you or your client to make change requests based on each layout and then submit those changes to be actioned. Included in the price is two free rounds of design revisions.

Photographers are often overwhelmed with the technicalities of colour management. Let me explain colour management without the technical jargon. Colour management is simply making sure that what you see on your screen closely matches what your finished print will look like. There are two steps to making this happen.

Step 1. Screen calibration

Your screen allows you to adjust the brightness, contrast and amount of red, green and blue that are shown in images. The goal is to adjust your screen to an international standard that has been created for all printing labs and photographers. Everyone who has calibrated their screen to this standard will see an image in the same way. To do this, you will need to purchase a device such as a Spyder or X-Rite i1. They are supplied with software to help you through the process. The wizard will ask you to connect the Spyder or X-Rite i1 device. It will then measure the colour of your screen and make the necessary adjustments for you. Once the process is finished, images on your screen will look almost identical to ours.

Step 2. Using printer profiles

Now that our screens match, you need to be able to see how your images will print when they are sent to our printers. Even state of the art printers cannot print every colour that you can see on your screen. This is because the printer has to mix a limited set of ink colours to try to replicate every colour visible on your screen.

Printer profiles allow you to see which colours cannot be printed, and more importantly, what will happen to these colours when they are printed. For example, if the specific printer cannot print Coca Cola Red accurately then it will print the closest colour possible. Printer profiles adjust the image on your screen so you can see what will happen to the image when it is printed.

Installing .icc profiles on a Mac- If Photoshop is open, close it before beginning.- Ensure your profile is unzipped/uncompressed.- Storing profiles in Library/ColorSync/Profiles allows all users to use them. An alternative location for users without Admin privileges is Users/<username>/Library/ColorSync/Profiles. Profiles stored here are available only to the current user.

Windows automatically installs the profile in its correct path of \Windows\system32\spool\driver\color

You can download our printer profiles from the resources section on the www.bpro.com.au website. These profiles are specific to Brilliant Prints. Other labs should be able to provide you with their profiles. The profile is just a file that you download and install on your computer. You can then use Photoshop to soft proof your image and see if there are any colours that can’t be accurately reproduced.

1. Open your image in Photoshop2. Click the “View” menu. Select “Proof Setup”.

Select “Custom”3. Select the profile you downloaded from the

www.bpro.com.au website4. Untick all other boxes and set Intent to

“Perceptual”5. Click “Ok”

This will show how the image will look once it has been printed. Hold down the control button and press the “Y” key to turn the proof on or off.

If the image does not change when you soft proof using our profile, then it means that our printer can achieve all the colours in your image.

HOW TO ORDER

We offer several convenient methods of ordering.

1. Online

We offer an automated online ordering system. This allows you to:

• order any of our products• combine multiple products into a single order• see proofs and select from available options• view real time pricing information• track your order’s progress through our production system• view and pay invoices• look up historical orders.

Simply visit www.bpro.com.au and click the Order Now button. You can then upload your image, choose your product and product options and then confirm freight method and delivery address.

2. Via email

You are welcome to email your order to [email protected]. Please include all of your contact information as well as comprehensive order details.

4. Post

Please post USB sticks to PO Box 90Archerfield BH 4108 Australia. Please include allorder and contact details.

5. In person

If you are in Brisbane you are welcome to drop into our showroom and production facility and place your order in person. Our address is

3. File transfer service

You can use just about any file transfer service, including Dropbox. Please send your images to [email protected]. Please clearly specify your contact details and order details.

FREIGHTEvery year we ship over 30,000 parcels to customers all over Australia. We use a variety of freight methods. The chosen method depends on the size, weight of the parcel and your location. We offer two freight methods: standard freight and express freight. Standard Freight will be sent via a road service. This may be Australia Post or a variety of couriers, depending on your location. Standard freight typically takes 3-10 days, depending on your location. Remote areas can take much longer.

Express Freight typically takes 1-3 days for metropolitan areas. We use a variety of couriers including Fastway, Express Post and TNT. Express freight can take longer to reach remote areas. We provide full track and trace on all parcels. We also require a signature on delivery.

In the rare event that your prints are damaged during transit, they will be replaced at our cost.

You are welcome to arrange your own courier to collect your prints. There is a $4 per product packing charge if you choose this option. This is to cover the cost of bubblewrap, cardboard and labour. Please advise us when you order if you wish to use your own courier.

You are welcome to collect your prints from our showroom in Brisbane. We reserve the right at all times to modify the following freight prices.
