The Typography of the masthead
and text are consistent throughout
the magazine along with the
masthead here. The serif font
shows that it is a formal magazine
and aimed at the adult market.
Also it creates an established feel
with the magazine.
The house style of Q magazine is very simple with lots of red, white, blacks
and greys. This lets people identify with the magazine as even without the Q
masthead in the top corner you can easily identify that it is Q. This is so that
people can get a relationship with the magazine as if they walked into a shop
and they could just look up and see it instantly on the shelf. It is laid out in a
very sophisticated way that caters to the audience it is aiming for, unlike
Kerrang with its audience of young men so they have a very hectic magazine
just like a young person’s life.
Q magazine tends to go into brief
detail with its articles on the cover
page devoting one or two
sentences to each article. Whereas
in magazines such as Kerrang they
only write the title of that story or
the artist it is about for example
‘Kings Of Leon’
The magazine shows off the Q awards and then a small
selection of some of the winners of the awards. This is to
let people see what they have voted for in something
that they enjoy to read. This will also give a brief
description about what the award is. Also shows us a
little segment of one of the reviews with makes people
want to read on with the article and let people enjoy the
magazine for what it is.
On this magazine the main image of the magazine is
very dominant similar to other magazines to show that
it is the main focus of this issue of the magazine. It
shows Take That on their comeback tour with Robbie
Williams all having fun and getting along after all these
years and shows how these men can still be childish. It
also lets people think about what the article is going to
be about.
There have been lots of good photos used on this content and they have
been used to show the other pages in the magazine to let people know what
is on the pages inside the magazine. Some of the photos use direct mode of
address as some of the pictures has the people looking straight into the
camera. Whereas most of the picture have been taken from the magazine so
they don’t use this technique. The contents use the Guttenberg design
principle as the first thing you look at is the number 48 and then take that
and work your way down the page.
