THE STOCK DISEASES (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1997(Under section 3 of the Act)

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 3 of the Animal Disease Act, 1965 the Minister

for Agriculture and Cooperatives makes the following Regulations.

Citation and commencement.1. These Regulations may be cited as the Stock Diseases (Amendment) Regulations, 1997 and

shall be read as one with the Stock Diseases Regulations, 1933 (Act 7/1965 (1)) and shall comeinto force on the date of publication.

Amendment of regulation 2.

2. Regulation 2 of the Stock Diseases Regulations, 1933 (Act 7/1965 (1)) is amended by adding

the following disease after “(ah) Infectious Laryngotracheitis”-

“(ai) Caprine Brucellosis (goat)”

Addition of new regulation 47 (A)

3. The Stock Diseases Regulations, 1933 (Act 7/1965 (1)) are amended by adding a newregulation 47 (a) immediately after regulation 47 as follows-

“47 (A) The following additional provisions shall apply in the case of caprine brucellosis-

(a) an ownerof a goat, which has aborted its foetus, shall immediately report such abortion

to the nearest Government Veterinarian or to an official of the Veterinary Services ofSwaziland;

(b) the Governmentveterinarian or the official of the Veterinary Services shall on receipt of

the report mentioned in paragraph (a) or on his own findings or suspicion test all theaffected stock or stock suspected to be affected and isolate and dispose ofall thereactors in a manner prescribed by the Director of Veterinary Services;

(c) underthe supervision of the Governmentveterinarian orofficial of the Veterinary Services,the ownershall, as soon as practicable, properly and completely burn such foetus andfoetal membraneand bury any remainsthereof,if any, alternatively the owner shall properlybury such foetus and foetal membranes and whilst doing so, the owner or any otherperson shall ensure that no contact is made between the foetus, foetal membranes or theburnt remains with the owner’s or any other person’s eyes, mouth, nostrils or cuts onany part of the skin;

(d) no person shall remove, sell or otherwise dispose of any stock which has aborted or anyanimal which may have been in contact with an aborted stock without the writtenpermission of the Director of Veterinary Services;

(e) an owner or any other person shall treat all stock that may or has been in contact with an

infected stock or animal, in such a manner as the Director of Veterinary Services shallprescribe; and

(f) any person who contravenes any part of these provisions commits an offence, and on

conviction, shall be liable to a fine not exceeding six hundred Emalangeni (E600.00) orto imprisonment not exceeding two (2) years or to both fine and imprisonment on

subsequent convictions.”
