Why are these traits and processesassociated with successful middlemanagers?
These traits and processes are similar to politiskilled managers. Politically skilled managers been linked to successful outcomes (Ferris bo
work; Lui et al. 2007).
Power is used to obtain positive results, not through overt means. Rather poweaccumulated through repeated actioninfluence over time by the middle manthrough relationships formed within the
organizational unit.

Every now and then, I take my digital camera
and I go out into the plant and take somepictures. I put them on PowerPoint and putnotes on there, sarcastic comments on someareas of the plant that need to be cleaned up
and send the file out and let people look at it.And of course, they will ….say, "Look what Herbsaw. (laughs) Get this cleaned up. (laughs)How did this happen?”
