STEM Course Description:Eastlake HS students will have the unique opportunity to select from the following courses, currently listed as a STEM endorsement for Computer Science.

Computer Science I*, II*, III* and IV*AP Computer Science*Discrete Mathematics for Computer Science*Robotics Programming and Design**Required courses

Game Programming and DesignMobile Application DevelopmentDigital ForensicsIndependent Studies of Technology ApplicationsAt least two of these courses are required

The information below is a brief description that is common amongst each of the above listed courses.

The technology applications curriculum has six strands based on the National Educational Technology Standards for Students (NETS•S) and performance indicators developed by the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE): creativity and innovation; communication and collaboration; research and information fluency; critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making; digital citizenship; and technology operations and concepts.

Course Criteria:Eastlake HS students must meet the following criteria to enroll and complete the program requirements to earn the four-year endorsement in Computer Science.

Program Requirements• Complete a coherent sequence of courses

for four or more credits in CTE that consists of at least two courses in the same career clus-ter

• Enroll in at least two P/AP credit courses in mathematics and science each year for four years

• Enroll in at least two Dual Credit and/or AP courses in the 11th and 12th grade

• Participate in a minimum of two years UIL competitions or current CTSO

• Complete a senior year project

Student Criteria• 3.0 Cumulative GPA• Comply with 90% required attendance rate• Reside in the Socorro ISD attendance zone• Application Packet must be completed and

submitted within the given time frame (April 17, 2014)

• Complete essay portion of application packet• Submit an updated individual student profile

sheet with state assessment scores from previous year

April 4-14, 2014 Eastlake and Montwood visit middle schools for 8th grade presentations (application packet delivered to 8th grade students)

April 15, 2014 Montwood parent information night at Montwood HS

April 16, 2014 Eastlake parent information night @ Eastlake HS

April 17, 2014 Application packets due to Middle School Counselors

April 21-25, 2014 Applications reviewed by High School Committees

May 2, 2014 Notification of acceptance distributed to students and parents

May 7, 2014 Students and parents sign commitment and acceptance forms
