Project DescriptionThis project will construct additional library space which will address the need to provide state of the art information

stations, library instructional spaces, enhanced reading areas, (including a two-story volume grand reading room),

group study rooms, academic lecture spaces as well as 24-hour study space. The existing ground, first and second

floors will be remodeled and will include program, accessibility and circulation improvements.

Once the construction portion of the project nears it completion the University will be managing the installation of 

Group I and II components such as carpeting, book stacks, telephone, data, signage, furniture and equipment required

to complete the project. The current budget for this scope of work is 10 million dollars and is scheduled to be

completed for the opening of academic classes in fall 2008.

Two-Week Look Ahead of Major Activities:

•  Site work at north area underway, 20% complete

•  Installation of new elevators underway, 10% complete

•  MEP rough-in at new addition underway, 95% complete

•  Fire alarm installation at existing building underway, 30% complete

•  Exterior metal panel installation, 95% complete

Upcoming Utility or Other Interruptions:•  Gas line tie-in complete

•  Electrical interruptions are scheduled to be limited to the library building only

Other Areas of Significance:

•  Temporary patron entry is currently scheduled to be relocated to the east side of the building after 9/7/07 in

order for temporary entry tunnel on west side to be removed.

•  Olive lane improvements are being reviewed for coordination with campus access.

•  Contractor parking in lot D has been restored to its original size to accommodate the additional sub-

contractors on site.

•  The quantity of sub-contractors on site is anticipated to increase significantly over the next few months as

work progresses in both the existing building and the new addition.

Building 3 Seismic Upgrade & Renovation ProjectJune 2007

Project Description

Building 3 is one of the oldest buildings on the Cal Poly Pomona campus. It is located between Building 92 to thewest and Building 8 to the east. This project will renovate approximately 72,000 gross square feet and includesinstalling new electrical, mechanical, plumbing and telecommunication services, new fire/life safety systems andupgraded energy efficient lighting. It also abates hazardous materials, replaces the existing roofing system and willinclude the installation of two new accessible elevators.

This $26.9 million project also consists of installing state-of-the-art Learning Centered Technology Initiativeequipment in all instructional classrooms and classroom labs. The building’s original 1957 constructed exteriorfaçade will undergo a rehabilitation that will include all glazing and window frame replacement with an energyefficient window system. An energy efficient air conditioning system will be installed.

Sustainability Benefits for this project include: a new window / low “e” glazing system, a connection to the campuschilled water system, an energy efficient lighting systems, a ‘cool-roof’ TPO system, an upgrade electrical servicefrom the campus’ high voltage 12KV service, an efficient HVAC system, installation of exterior sunshades and thebuilding’s men’s restrooms will be plumbed for a future retrofit of waterless urinals.

•  Construction Start Date: Sept. 25, 2006 Gross Square Footage: 72,232•  Expected Completion Date: Fall 2008 Assignable Square Footage: 46,819•  Construction Budget: $21,053,750. Percentage of Project Complete: 45%•  Total Project Budget: $26,939,354. (includes Group II Equip.)

Progress of Major Construction Activities:

•  New HVAC, electrical and plumbing systems installation is approx. 30% complete.

•  85% of new wall framing is complete.

•  Installation of chilled water lines on University Drive between Building 7 and Building 3 is 75% complete.Work to be 100% completed the week of July 9th.

•  Installation of the new natural gas service was completed on Tuesday June 12, 2007.

•  Installation of the new roofing is approximately 10% complete.

•  Off-site utility work for new electrical, storm drain and sanitary sewer work is approx. 40% complete.

•  South Bridge between Building #8 and Building #3 has been vacated by the University. South Bridge to beturned over to the General Contractor during July 2007.

Key/Critical Issues Currently Pending:

•  Schedule Lecture Rm. work during Christmas Break with contractor to avoid any class scheduleinterruptions.

•  Coordinate the high voltage electrical shutdown in Manhole #R to minimize campus impacts for buildingsbeing serviced from HV feeders #5 & #6. (Tentative date is scheduled for Saturday September 8, 2007).

Two-Week Look Ahead of Major Activities:

•  Continue with rough-in utility work for the new HVAC, electrical and plumbing trades on both floors.

Upcoming Utility or Other Interruptions:

•  Schedule the high voltage electrical shutdown for building tie-in as noted above for Saturday 9/8/07.

Innovation Village Phase IIIJune 2007

Project DescriptionConstruct a new 123,000 square foot concrete tilt-up speculative office facility on a 6.7 acre Innovation Village

Research Park site. The new three story structure is the first of several facilities master planned for the Research Park 

to partner with organizations which are aligned with the mission of the University and will promote partnerships

within the university’s academic environment as well as provide jobs and economic grow to our surrounding

community. Trammell Crow Company will be overseeing the construction of this first speculative office complex

which will include site improvements, a new bio-swale storm water drainage system, and an energy efficient structure

which is set to exceed Title 24 standards by 15%.

Project Update

Innovation Village - Infrastructure Phase II ProjectsJune 2007

Project Description

The Infrastructure Projects at Innovation Village include: Innovation Way Phase I; Extension & closure of the

Domestic Water Line; Undergrounding of the dry utilities along the eastern border, (Valley Blvd.); and the

Landscaping of the eastern and southern perimeter common areas.

  Innovation Way Phase I – Completion of the first section of a transverse access road from the Kellogg

Drive Circle southward toward Temple Avenue. This project will include all roadwork, pedestrian

access pathways, landscaping, irrigation, and street lighting. This phase will complete the road up to

the southern edge of the Innovation Village Phase III complex. Phase II of the Innovation Way project

will commence with the Innovation Village Phase IV complex and will extend the roadway all the way

to Temple Ave.

  Domestic Water Line Extension – Completion of the University’s main domestic water line loop

distribution piping system. Makes the final connections from Innovation Village to the terminuslocated at the AgriScapes complex. Completion of the loop will assist Facilities in maintaining the high

quality of our water and afford water service to our facilities from two directions minimizing

disruptions.

  Undergrounding of the Utilities – Working with Trammell Crow Company and S. C. Edison we will be

removing the overhead power and communications cabling and placing them in subsurface conduits.

This will require the installation of new street lights. This will improve and enhance the appearance of 

the entire Innovation Village Complex. This phase of the project is presently in design and should be

ready to commence construction the early part of 2008.

  Landscaping of the Perimeter Common Areas – Completion of the landscaping themes along the

Valley Boulevard corridor and the Temple Avenue corridor east of the drive entry in to the CTTi

complex. This project will complete the beautification of the perimeter common spaces surrounding

the Innovation Village complex.
