Air Force Food and Beverage Division Football Frenzy Submitted by Jim Krueger, CMCE
T he NFL football season came to
an exciting close and Air Force
club members SSgt Richard and
Stephanie Crites (Spangdahlem) as
well as USAF Ret Marsha Nelson
(Shaw)
and
USAF
Ret
Roger
Nelson
were
there
live and in person to see it! As the
grand prize winners of Football Frenzy
2016, the Crites and Nelsons attended
pre-tailgate events, the NFL Honors,
and Super Bowl LII! Sponsored by
USAA, this once in a lifetime trip also
included airfare, event transportation,
and hotel accommodations. This was
the first year that the Air Force
partnered with USAA for Football
Frenzy. Through their support, 100
tickets were awarded for NFL games
across the country and in the United
Kingdom.
“Stephanie and I have been best
friends since 1st grade and club
members since I was
an A1C” said SSgt
Crites. “She promised
to get me to the Super
Bowl someday; we just
never imagined it
would be like this!”
Members were also
surprised to receive emails and see
their names on the MyAirForceLife
Facebook page on Super Bowl Sunday
as instant winners of a $100 NFL
ProShop gift card! “The 10-hour prize
giveaway via social media and email
created an immediate buzz when it
kicked off at 1300 CST,” said Charissa
Jarrett, Business Operations
Specialist. We are still receiving thank
you emails; the contents of which can
be summed up with, “the club is like a
piece of home and we are looking
forward to another exciting season!”
Thank you for supporting the tradition
and heritage of Air Force Clubs!

I MCEA Hawaii Chapter quarterly meeting held at
Hickam Officers Club on Tuesday 2-7-17, 1800 hrs.
Guest Speaker: Mr. Jim Kelly, vice president of corporate relations at Hawaiian Electric Company spoke about what Hawaiian Electric is currently doing with regard to alternative renewable energy.
Mr. Kelly said the military is their biggest and most demanding customer, but there is a positive relation-ship. It is also easier
to get energy projects installed/working on a military base. Mr. Kelly said Hawaiian Electric Co. is working on the state’s goal of having 100% renewable energy available by the year 2025. He mentioned that several of the islands are progressing in terms of reaching that goal. He also spoke about the company’s new initiative to make energy information available via social media, including an online outage map and customer service portal and touched on electric cars and how the company is helping with solutions for charging the vehicles. Historical fact: Prince Kuhio was the first person to have a car in Hawaii. Major renewable projects such as:
• Na Pua Makani Wind - 24 MW project scheduled for construction in 2017.
• Waianae Solar— Largest solar project in Hawaii - 28 MW. Will displace 3.5 gallons of oil annually. Online January 2017.
Hawaiian Electric’s Position on Solar: Rooftop solar is a key component of our 100% clean energy plan. Because of rate decoupling, solar does not hurt our profits. Solar must be integrated safely and reliably. Our research and field testing is nationally recognized for expanding solar. Reducing approval times is a major goal. Shared community renewables provide smart choices. Participants purchase an interest in the energy produced by the renewable energy project to offset their monthly energy use. Each month, the participant’s electric bill is credited the amount of their interest in the renewable Project. Awaiting regulatory agencies approval. After 117 years it’s time for EVs, the ideal commuter vehicle for Honolulu. Installing up to 25 fast chargers, working with startups on mobile charging solutions. Special rates encourage daytime charging and puts excess solar to work during the day.
Meeting adjourned 2-7-17, 1910 hrs.
