Youth Mission Trip Update
Superstorm Sandy created extensive damage and flooding along the northeast coast including many communities in New Jersey. Families were displaced and countless homes were lost. The rebuilding process, especially in lower income areas, will continue for many years. This summer youth groups will have the opportunity to continue the relief efforts in Monmouth County helping to rebuild the blue collar town of Union Beach, NJ, where some 85% of the homes were affected by the storm. —TEAM EFFORT On June 21st, the Oak Forest youth group mission team will make our way north for a second time to serve the Monmouth County community through the Team Effort Organization. We will stay in a local church with several other youth groups from across the country. We will serve at our work site together as a youth group, and in the afternoons/evenings we will worship together as a community. Our last day will be a free day where we will get to experience local New Jersey and the boardwalk. As you all know, we have been raising money throughout the year with our envelope fundraiser. To date we have raised almost $8,500 (our goal being $10,000). We are almost there!! The fundraiser will end on Youth Sunday, which is May 31st, so please grab an envelope and help us reach our goal! Listed below are the names of those attending the mission trip and we would ask you to pray for us before, during and after our trip. Thank you Oak Forest for your continued love and support! —Brooke Harris 2015 Hurricane Sandy Mission Team (June 21-27)

NOTICE FROM THE FINANCE COMMITTEE
MAKING A GIFT OF LIFE INSURANCE
YOU DON’T NEED TO BE WEALTHY TO LEAVE MONEY TO YOUR CHURCH
Your church has been an important part of your life - a community of friends who support each other in countless
ways. Have you considered a gift that will live on after you, continuing the work you cherish? You don’t need to
be wealthy to leave money to your church. By gifting life insurance you can contribute far more than might
otherwise be possible – it’s a way to continue your stewardship and make a difference even after you have gone.
There are several ways to make a gift of life insurance to your church:
Purchase a life insurance policy and name your church as the beneficiary and “owner”.
You pay the annual premium, which you can deduct from your income tax as a charitable gift. On your death
your church receives the life insurance benefit free from taxes.
Gift an existing policy to your church.
If you have a life insurance policy that you no longer need, consider giving it to you church. You may receive an
income tax deduction in the year of the gift, as well as for future premiums you pay.
Name your church as beneficiary on your policy for either all or a portion of the death benefit.
You will still own the policy and so you will continue to have access to any cash value. Although this approach
may not provide a federal income tax deduction in the current year, your estate may receive an estate tax
reduction for the amount of the death benefit that you bequeath to your church.
CONSIDER THE ADVANTAGES
Making a gift of life insurance offers a number of important benefits:
Your church receives the life insurance benefit
You receive a possible income tax reduction for paying the annual premium when you name the church
“owner” of the policy.
You create a legacy for the congregation you love.
Gifting life insurance helps you achieve your charitable goals today while promising a legacy for the future.
If making a gift of life insurance appeals to you coordinate with your insurance agent and/or Oak Forest UMC
Finance Committee representative to talk it over. The Finance committee will be aware of long range funding
programs that will make the most of your gift.
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old
things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
