Configuring Firefox for your USB token or smart card (Windows XP/Windows Vista/Windows 7)

If you’ve already installed your PKI Certificate and it isn’t working, you may need to configure your browser to successfully transmit and receive data.

If your computer doesn’t have Firefox, you can download and install it from the web.

This step-by-step guide will help you if you use one of the following operating systems:

Windows XP Windows Vista Windows 7

This guide has been written using Firefox 23. If your computer has a different version of Firefox, there may be slight differences getting to the dialog box required.

Step 1: Inserting your USB token or smart card

Insert your USB token or smart card into a spare USB port on your computer.

You’re ready to go once the light remains a constant green. This can take up to 10 seconds.

Step 2: Opening Firefox and finding out your versionOpen your Firefox browser.

If you already have Firefox opened, select Firefox and then Quit Firefox then reopen your Firefox browser.

Select the Firefox menu.

Select the 'About Mozilla Firefox' option. The version number is displayed.

Step 3: Setting your options

Select Tools.

Select Options.

Or

On your keyboard hold down the Ctrl button and press the comma key.

The Options dialog box is displayed.

Select the Advanced tab.

Select Certificates tab.

Select the Security Devices button. The Device Manager dialog box is displayed.

Select Load.

Step 4: Selecting your USB token or smart card

If doesn’t matter if you use a USB token or smart card, you follow the same process.

Enter SmartCard.

If you have a smart card or a Gemalto USB token enter:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\aetpkss1.dll

If you have an older USB token enter

C:\WINDOWS\system32\dkck201.dll

Select OK.

You may need to wait 2-3 seconds.

Select SmartCard. Your name will be displayed.

Select OK.

Step 5: Viewing your PKI Certificate

Select View Certificates.

Enter your password and select OK.

Select Your Certificates.

Your two installed certificates will be displayed

Your USB token or smart card is now ready to use on your computer.
