It is great to see you back and look forward to Skyla being a leader in our Weka Room. Waitangi Day School is CLOSED tomorrow to observe Waitangi Day. National Standards We are no longer required to report against national standards so we will be reverting back to all children receiving written reports at the end of Term 2 and Term 4. As some junior children were due to receive a report before then, Claire will be in contact with these parents shortly to arrange a transition report interview. T.V. One Last week we did make TV ONE news with regards to the heat around the country. I thought that the chil- dren who spoke did so well, and there were some great shots of our children swimming. Well done Waikari School! Parent Help We operate an open door policy and if you would like to help in the classroom then reading to or being read to is a great place to start. Please remember though that we all learn at a different pace and confidential- ity of other children's learning is a requirement for any classroom support. New Library Books There are other ways parents can also help and I cur- rently have approximately 30 new library books that need covering. It would be great if a couple of parents could get together and do this in the library or they could be taken away and covered at home. All materi- als supplied. MusicUkulele Lessons Sally is keen to take ukulele and drum lessons again this year. Year 7 and 8’s can attend lessons on a Friday as Technology in Hawarden is being changed to an- other day starting next term. Please return the form if your children would like to do either of these. Lessons are $20 per term per in- strument and will be invoiced at the start of each term. These are very reasonably priced and Sally does re- quire students to commit to practising at home. Choir Noortje will be taking choir again this year. Please dis- cuss this with your child and return the form if your child would like to participate in the choir this year. Please let the office know if you can provide transport Life Saving Skills Years 6-8 (William Pike) When: Wednesday 7th February Wednesday 21st February Where: Amberley Pool Leaving school at 12:30 pm Year 4/5 Camp This is at Cracroft Guiding CentreCashmere. We are still confirming activities, Ferrymead is on the agenda. The camp is well equipped with lots of fun activities on site including kayaking. Year 6-8 Camp (William Pike Challenge) This is a challenge camp organised by Greta Valley. The children will be staying outdoors on a farm in the Medbury area. More information to come. Both camps are from Monday 5th March to Wednes- day 7th March. If you would like to be considered as a parent help we need to know by this Friday so that police vets can be secured, as these can take a while to process.
