• Definition of EKG
• Limb leads
• Precordial leads
• Vectors
• Putting it all together
Electrical Impulse of the Heart
• Muscle cells of the heart are negatively charged (polarized) in their resting state.
• When heart muscle is electrically stimulated the cells become positively charged (depolarized) and this causes them to contract.
Electrical Impulse of the Heart
• We are interested in how the electrical impulse is conducted through cardiac tissue.
Electrical Impulse of the Heart
• The EKG gives us information about how the electrical impulse is moving through the heart.
Electrical Impulse of the Heart
• The 12-lead EKG gives us 12 different views of the movement of the electrical impulse through the heart.
