KODAK IRTRAN Infrared Optical Materials
KODAKIRTRANInfrared Optical Materials are designed for thefabrication of lenses, windows, domes, prisms, and filter sub-strates for use from about 2 /-Lmto 14 /-Lm.They are all hot-pressed polycrystalline solids which can be ground andpolished to perform a multitude of infrared tasks.
IRTRAN1 Material, the original, is especially useful for missilewindows and domes and other optical components operatingbetween 2 and 8 tui:
IRTRAN2 Material-workhorse of the family-is useful asspectroscopy cells, lenses, IR optics, windows, and domes, allover the 2 to 14 usi: range. Thin sections have good visibletransmittance.

'Useful transmittance limits are taken at the wavelengths where transmittance fallsbelow 10 percent for a 2 rum-thick sample.
Incidentally, evaporation-grade IRTRANMaterials are readilyavailable and ideal for coating purposes and at bargain prices.
We urge your consideration of the data presented below thenext time you select an optical material for any infrared appli-cation. These materials do an outstanding job and hold up theirpart of Kodak's reputation as maker of many types of fine in-frared products-photographic films and plates, filters, lenses, laser materials, and IRTRA Materials.
Our people speak infrared fluently. Make them prove it.
Use At High TemperaturesAlllRTRANMaterials are generally usable at temperatures up toat least 300°c' Higher use temperatures are possible dependingon conditions of use-type of IRTRANMaterial, type of atmo-sphere, duration, pressure, tolerable emissivity, etc.
Antireflection and Dielectric CoatingsAll high-index optical materials show higher transmittancewhen an appropriate antireflection coating is applied. Hardmultilayer antireflection coatings can be deposited on one orboth surfaces of IRTRANMaterials for maximum transmittance atselected wavelengths.
Coatings similar to the example shown are available for bothIRTRANMaterials and each coating can be peaked for a specific
. wavelength region (within the normal transmittance range forthat material).
Dielectric coatings can be applied to one or both sides for "-selected reflectivity, generally ranging from 30 to 99 percentwith a tolerance of ±5%.

In suggesting the above design parameters, factors such asmounting rigidity or resiliency, mounting surface roughness, clamping loads, momentary pressure surges, combinations ofpressure and thermal shock, impact, vibration, and so forth havenot been taken into account. For this reason our thickness sug-gestions cannot be taken as a fail-safe guarantee under actualoperating conditions.

Index of refraction values were experimentally determined atselected wavelengths between 1 and 10 tat: Coefficients of aninterpolation formula were established and reduced by leastsquares methods, and the values computed. All values beyond10 f.Lm are extrapolated.

Custom single-element lenses and element-componentsfor multi-element lenses can be supplied to meet customer
needs. Specify focal length, outsidediameter, aperture, intended wave-length of use, and type of IRTRANMa-terial. Kodak will readily computespherical radii for single-elementlenses based on simple thin-lens for-mulas. Kodak is not in the position tocompute multi-element lenses norwarrant performance values (such asblur circle) for any custom lens. Pricesand delivery on custom lenses canusually be quoted upon written ortelephone request.
