Cork Orchestral Society’s 80th season opens with a performance of the Irish Chamber Orchestra under the baton of the charismatic Hungarian conductor Gábor Takács-Nagy. The programme features popular works by Elgar and Brahms, plus a world premiere of a new composition by Sam Perkin (featuring guest soloist Alex Petcu).

The Irish Baroque Orchestra, with mezzo-soprano Sharon Carty and director Claire Duff, performs 17th and 18th Century Italian arie di baule (‘suitcase arias’), including works never previously performed or recorded in Ireland. The main concert is followed by a late night recital as Thomas Dunford plays solo lute music by John Dowland and J.S. Bach.

Iconic American jazz vocalist Cassandra Wilson comes to CIT Cork School Of Music as part of a short Irish tour featuring a stellar ensemble of top Irish, folk, classical and jazz musicians from both sides of the Atlantic. Winner of two Grammy awards, Wilson has sold millions of albums on the Blue Note label but is known for her ability to attract audiences from across a broad spectrum of musical genres.
