COMTO North Texas will award up to five (5) scholarships for the 2018-2019 academic year to students who express an interest in pursuing a degree in a transportation-related field. A Field of study for Inter-model Transportation-related degrees which includes Business Administration, Civil Engineering, Business Law, Marketing, Transportation Management, Logistics and Planners. (The scholarship award may be used for tuition, books and/or room and board expenses).

Scholarship Awards Process

COMTO North Texas will award a check for the scholarship amount made payable to the student and will send directly to the institution to which the student will be attending. The recipient must provide COMTO with a copy of his/her college enrollment registration along with the address of the school’s financial aid officer prior to the check being mailed. The student must provide his/her student account number with this information. The scholarship must be used during the 2018-2019 academic year or any remaining funds will be forfeited. Under no circumstances will the payment be given directly to the scholarship recipient.

Eligible applicants must meet the following requirements:

1. Be a graduating high school senior entering an accredited college or university in the year the scholarship is awarded. Scholarships are awarded only to those who graduate from high school in the calendar year in which scholarships are presented.

2. Be currently enrolled, in good standing and maintaining at least a 2.5 grade point average through the 2018-2019 academic year.

3. Complete the full COMTO North Texas application process by the designated deadline.

To be considered, the scholarship application form MUST BE COMPLETED in its entirety and MUST INCLUDE ALL accompanying documentation.

Applications must be mailed and postmarked by: Friday, March 22, 2019

All applications must be complete for consideration and must include all of the following:

* Completed scholarship application form to include signature. PLEASE WRITE LEGIBLY.* Personal Essay (500-700 words) will be required and will include: introducing yourself, stating your

community service, extracurricular activities and your career goals in your personal statement. Please refer to more details on Page 5.

* Two (2) Letters of Recommendations from any of the following: a teacher or academic advisor, a community organization where you have worked or volunteered, an employer or a person other than a relative.

* Official High School Transcript (weighted GPA’s will be considered) MUST BE INCLUDED.* Graduation Photo (not proofs) or head shot photo suitable for printing in a brochure * Proof of United States citizenship (birth certificate or passport will be accepted).

AWARDING OF SCHOLARSHIPS: Scholarships recipients will be honored at the COMTO Scholarship Awards Banquet in June 2019 (Date, Time & Place to be announced). All scholarship recipients are expected to attend the banquet. The recipient’s parents will be our invited guests.

All scholarships will be disbursed to the school upon official verification of enrollment for the 2018-2019 school year. This should be in the form of an official class roster or letter from the registrar. You must also submit the Bursar’s mailing address and your student account number.

Application deadline: Must be postmarked by Friday, March 22, 2019 (no exceptions will be made for late or incomplete applications). Please be sure to follow all instructions carefully as follow-up calls will not be made.

Selection of the recipients of COMTO North Texas Chapter Scholarships will be made by a panel appointed by the COMTO North Texas Chapter Scholarship Committee.

The following scoring system will apply:

15 points Grade Point Average 4.0-3.5 (15 pts) >3.5-3.0 (13 pts) >3.0-2.5 (11 pts)

20 points Personal Essay Essay will be scored based on content, grammar, spelling, flow of ideas and applicant’s answers to required essay questions.

10 points Participation in activities related to career goal.

15 points Two (2) Letters of Recommendation and Endorsement Form

15 points High School Citizenship Attendance, rules followed for school, awards received, participation, volunteer work performed, outside school involvement (jobs, clubs, etc.)

10 points Three (3) personal qualities evaluations (will be evaluated by the Scholarship Committee Evaluation Team)

15 points Individual Interview (may be conducted via phone call). Once applications have been received, interviews will take place the 3rd week of May. The same set of questions will be asked of each applicant, by the same scholarship committee member.

INSTRUCTIONS: Please review the COMTO North Texas Scholarship program rules and instructions below prior to completing the application. Be sure to complete the Scholarship Application Form and attach the following documents: APPLICATION WILL BE CONSIDERED INCOMPLETE IF NOT INCLUDED IN THE PACKET.

1. Personal Essay from Applicant

Write an essay (500-700 words), typewritten using size 12 font, which includes answers to the following:

a. Why you chose your planned field of study? b. How do you think your coursework and life experiences have helped you prepare for your college studies and the future? c. Explain why you are an excellent-candidate for this scholarship. d. What else you would like to tell the Scholarship Selection Committee to help make a decision about your scholarship application. e. Include extra-curricular activities outside of your school activities.

Note: In preparing your personal essay (as well as preparing for your interview), consider how you can most effectively convey your best qualities.

Note: Applicants should mail materials to the Dallas Scholarship Committee. If letters or forms are sent separately, it is up to the applicant to ensure all materials have been sent and postmarked by the deadline, Friday, March 22, 2019.

Scholarship Application Rules and Guidelines

Letters may be provided by teachers, school staff employers, coaches, etc. The person submitting the letter should state how he or she knows you and your ability to benefit from the scholarship. Letters from family members will not be accepted. All letters of recommendations should include their contact information such as an email or phone number.
