Basic Computer Facts Overview

The software that comes pre-loaded by the engineers that make the

computer manage and control the computers activities this is referred to asthe operating system.

Some different operating systems are;

Linux

WindowsUnix

Mac OS

All of these operating systems come with different software that is speciallymade for these computers. However, most software now days is

interchangeable and can be used with many different operating systems.

Computer Software

The software preloaded on a computer is what makes it work.

These programs generally include a graphics interface for icons menu bars andfolders.

Preloaded software also includes what we would refer to as settings or systempreferences.

This is where the user can change the way the computer responds to mouse clicks or thedefault printer the computer prints to.Settings include many other changes the user can make to suit their needs.

More preloaded software include;

A text program like word or text edit where the user can create word documents.

Some computers include picture programs where you can view and edit pictures.

In addition, music software, Internet browsers like Safari or Internet Explorer, or games likesolitare.

Operating System Overview

Operating system software creates a platform that all the other applications can

run.

Other applications can be games or art programs, or any other software the user wantsor needs.

Operating systems keep track of files, security, and input such as the keyboard,and output such as the screen display.

Commands that the operating system responds to that we would all be familiarwith would be;

Renaming a file or copying and pasting which uses the command processor.

Clicking on an icon to go to a file which uses the graphic user interface.

Software Relationships

Some software programs can run together or connect, forinstance;

Apple has programs like ical and reminders.

These two programs can sync together so when determining the correct

results it includes all information the user inputs within both programs.Apple also can use ical to sync with other applications as well.

Another example of programs working together would be music;

Music can be stored on the computer and a music program can locate these

files every time it is opened to play the music.
