Session Objectives

The purpose of this session is to:• Become familiar with Assessment Map tools• Prepare educators to use the tools in districts

or schools

What is the purpose?Used to inventory the assessments administered at

each grade level in each content area• Leads to a comprehensive assessment system

o Identifies redundancies in assessments• Will help inform SLO-writing process

o Gives educators list of assessments used in their LEA and their purpose

• RTTTo Begin thinking about sources of data for Data

Use PD o Identify interim assessment needs

Who should be using this tool?

Assessment Maps mainly used by:• LEA administrators• Also by schools if they choose

How do you use Appendix A?

Each form is completed using information, such as:• Types of assessments used

o (i.e., screening/diagnostic, interim/progress monitoring, summative/accountability)

• Grade and content area • Description of assessment• Purpose and use of assessment

o hint: look at assessment technical manual• Scoring procedure• Accommodations, etc.

Striking a Balance

Need to balance time between Instruction & Assessment•A comprehensive assessment system addresses the concern of over-assessing students•These maps can help identify redundancies and allow for more time for high quality instruction

• Fill out Assessment Maps within next three weeks (or later)

• Email [email protected] before Nov. 4th with any questions about the process

• Participate in webinar on Nov. 9th to discuss questions or comments

• Share the results of the mapping with your fellow educators

• Using map results, create a plan to increase assessments in under-assessed areas and/or decrease assessments in over-assessed areas.
