Font

The font shown on both is a stereotypical one in the fact that it is a serif font. In order for my product to look professional the font being identical was key. Both headlines are large and bold so that it draws the attention to the story; in addition the font size is also very similar as the articles itself are both size 12.

Masthead

Both mastheads are very similar. This is shown in every aspect in the way they are both big and bold so the audience no fully well which brand of newspaper it is, they are both of a blue colour and also the way they both illustrate a date, price and website suggests that they are both similar. They have both been positioned at

the top of the page with text/ articles being shown below it which is a very conventional thing in a local newspaper.

Articles

The articles are similar in some aspects but in design and layout they are slightly different. The main article on the established local newspaper shows three columns each of which are quite small compared to my two columns that are both quite big and stretched. They both show similarities on the right hand alignment

columns as they both have a headline and a little bit of text. In addition each article is separated by lines which is a very conventional thing.

Main Headline and Image

Both newspapers have a dominant look to the main story which is of course key to success. The existing newspaper is far more eye catching though as the headline is huge but I have gone for a different approach in the way that my image is a lot larger. In my opinion mine looks good and professional but the main story on the ‘South London Press’ stands out a lot more than my main story does.
