1. In English when we describe things, we use words like ‘good’ or ‘fast’. But when we have 2 ‘good’ or fast’ things,

we use Comparatives to describe which is ‘better or faster’. We put –er on the end of short adjectives and you

use more before long adjectives.

* She is taller than her brother

* She is also more intelligent than her brother.

2. To form the comparative in Spanish, we put más before the adjective or adverb and que after it.

* Ella es más alta que su hermano.

* Y también es más inteligente que su hermano.

• 3. The Superlatives show which is the ‘best’ or ‘fastest’. They show what is “the most.” To form the superlative in English, you add –est to short adjectives and place most before long adjectives. –She is the nicest person of all.–She is the most intelligent person in the

world.

• 4. In Spanish, the superlative is formed by using the appropriate Definite Article

(el, la, los, las) + más with the adjective. The preposition de follows the superlative.

–Ella es la persona más simpática de todas.–Ella es la persona más inteligente de su

familia.

• 5. The adjectives bueno & malo have irregular comparative & superlative forms. –Bueno(a) - Mejor - el/la

Mejor–Good - Better - The Best–Malo(a) - Peor - el/la Peor–Bad - Worse - The Worst

• 6. The adjectives Mayor & Menor most often refer to age, and can be used instead of saying…

(más joven/ más viejo or más chico/ más grande).

–Yo soy mayor que mi hermana. –Mi hermana es la menor de la familia.
