Meeting demand worldwide

The Icopal Group operates throughout

Europe and the USA, fielding a

network of local sales and production

facilities. The Group currently operates

34 production sites manufacturing

Icopal products using state of the

art production technology and runs

a further 91 offices with committed

teams dedicated to innovation and

customer satisfaction. As a result,

Icopal is always on the doorstep – able

to meet its customers, visit sites, and

deliver materials as and when required,

meeting the varied and different needs

of specifiers, contractors and

distributors.

A commitment to the environment

As a company, Icopal is proud of its

strong environmental credentials,

actively promoting the recycling of its

products whenever possible, in order

to minimise the use of raw materials

and energy in the development and

production of roofing and water-

proofing solutions.

This means that many of our

products meet – and often exceed

– environmental standards, and are

recognized by many of the industry

bodies promoting excellence in this

field. As sustainable building practices

become increasingly mainstream, we

are therefore ideally positioned to offer

architects and developers the products

they need both to satisfy evolving

environmental standards, and meet the

increasingly informed expectations of

building users.

Technical support for all our products

Efficient, effective and comprehensive

technical support underpins all our

operations and is essential if the right

product is to be specified and installed

correctly. We field an extensive technical

support team, constantly updated on

product performance, evolving building

regulations, codes of practice, and

methods of application. As every job

is different, we need to make sure we

can provide accurate and appropriate

advice, so that our products deliver the

highest possible performance.

We also provide access to a network

of approved contractors, trained to

install our products according to our

specifications, thereby, closing the

quality loop of Product, Support &

Installation.

Inside IcopalExpert products depend on expert staff – whether in R&D or installation, product

testing or technical support. Icopal’s product range is renowned for its quality and

performance, and this is a direct reflection of the quality of our employees. Our

training and development programme ensures our staff are fully equipped to meet

customers’ needs, and staff are given every opportunity to further progress their own

careers within the company. Hear from just some of the people who work for us:

Geoff joined Icopal as Quality

Supervisor in 2009, and works in the

Icopal laboratory in Manchester. Part of

Geoff’s job is to ensure that all Icopal

products exceed British Standards,

while also meeting their specification

and tolerance levels. ‘I’ve only been

at Icopal for a year, but already I can

see that it’s a company looking to

make continual improvements to its

products and services. We’re a small,

close-knit team in Quality, and every

day throws out new challenges. For

example, assessing a new product or

raw materials, looking to improve an

aspect of productivity or performance,

or reducing waste, as well as the day

to day testing work of the lab. It’s

the variety that makes every day so

interesting and different, plus the sense

that we are really making a difference.’

Kate is part of our Technical Services

Team, providing support and

information on aspects of building

design and construction to both

customers and staff. ‘I joined Icopal at

the age of 18 as an administrator for

our product guarantees. During this

time I started to develop my knowledge

and understanding of the waterproofing

industry and of Icopal’s range of

products. Somebody must have seen

potential in me as I was selected to

become part of our Technical Team.

I am now studying towards a BSc

degree in Building Surveying which

helps me present clear, concise and

accurate recommendations to a broad

spectrum of customers.’

Kate Moloney

Wynn Roberts – Internal Sales Supervisor

‘I have been employed by Icopal for five years in the Sales

Department and during the past two years I have worked as

the Internal Sales Supervisor.

When first joining the business it was quite a challenge to learn

about the varied range of products the company has to offer.

However, the company operates a programme called “Icopal

University”, which is used to ensure all employees have a

minimum knowledge of all our products and services.

As a result, during my first couple of months with the company

I attended a number of training presentations with Product

Managers. The training enabled me to advise customers on

the most suitable products they should use for their particular

project.

We recently incorporated our Acoustic Systems division into

the main Icopal business to enable the Company to become

increasingly streamlined and efficient, with the scope to provide

a surprisingly good service to all our customers.’

Brian Reilly – Area Technical Manager

Working on the front line, Brian deals directly with Icopal’s

customers, while also liaising with the Product Managers and

Technical Advisors, and creating new business opportunities.

‘I have worked in the waterproofing industry for over 12 years and

in my current role I primarily meet customers and help them find

the best waterproofing solution for their project. We offer over

a thousand products so we can always meet our customers’

needs and their budget. As a sales person, it’s great to have

some really innovative products to offer. For example, over the

last couple of years sustainability has become increasingly

important and to meet this demand we have developed the

Eco-Activ product range. This has been extremely popular

and as most of these products are patented this gives us a

really competitive edge. Sometimes I need to work closely with

my customers, often using all of Icopal’s resources. We have

great Technical Advisors, Product Managers and R & D experts

and it’s good to know that the team behind me can use their

expertise to exceed customer expectations.’

Installation

All Icopal installations are carried out by

Icopal approved contractors who have

completed specific training courses

at one of Icopal’s dedicated training

centres. Approved contactors are

required to demonstrate professional

levels of competency in the application

or installation of specific Icopal products

and systems, and - on completion of

their training - are certified to a specific

level of competency.

Inspection and project monitoring

Once the project is on-site, Icopal

Quality Inspectors carry out regular site

inspections throughout the progress of

an installation, checking compliance

with specification, workmanship and

aesthetic condition.

Each visit is followed up with a site

progress report, including photographs.

On completion of the project, the

Quality Inspector will conduct

an inspection to ensure that all

guarantee requirements have been

satisfied.

• Innovative products which work with nature to improve sustainability

• Noxite® converts harmful nitrogen oxides into harmless nitrates

• ICOSUN® - a flexible lightweight alternative to solar panels

The highly innovative Eco-Activ® range

offers versatile and sustainable roofing

solutions that work with nature to help

reduce air pollution, cut CO2 emissions,

and improve energy efficiency, enabling

new build and refurbishment projects

to meet the increasingly challenging

environmental targets specified by

evolving Building Regulations.

Eco-Activ® Noxite®

The high quality Noxite® waterproofing

membrane uses sun, wind and rain to

transform harmful nitrogen oxides into

harmless nitrates. When the membrane’s

granular titanium dioxide finish is activated

by UV radiation from the sun, nitrogen

oxide particles (carried by polluted air)

are converted into nitrates, which are

washed away by rainfall. As a result,

Noxite® can annually neutralise up to

52 million m3 of polluted air per 1000m2

of roofing surface. Supplied in easy to

handle rolls, Noxite® is highly flexible and,

once installed, will continue to perform

throughout its lifetime.

BiELSo – recycling for better environmental performance

Noxite® is made from recycled roofing

products resulting from Icopal’s BiELSo

process – Bitumen Endless Life Solutions.

BiELSo reduces dependence on raw

materials, relieves pressure on landfill

sites, and cuts the energy required – and

CO2 produced – to create completely

new bitumen roofing.

Noxite®, BiELSo & ICOSUN®

Page 11: Company Overview - Curtis Moore (Cladding Systems) Ltd · aspects of an installation attain the same excellent quality through stringent project monitoring and a guaranteed support

10

Eco-Activ® ICOSUN®

The ICOSUN® flexible photovoltaic (PV)

membrane enables a flat or pitched

roof (max 40o) to harness solar energy

and take advantage of Government

incentives designed to encourage small

scale, low carbon, energy generation.

An ideal alternative to solar panels,

ICOSUN® modules are simply bonded to

new or existing Icopal bituminous roofing

systems; lightweight and low profile, they

also require no supporting framework,

and are simple to install.

Low light operation

A multi-layer cell design allows ICOSUN®

to work efficiently on a cloudy day, without

the need to be oriented towards the sun.

Comprising flexible, thin-film amorphous-

silicon PV cells, ICOSUN® modules can

generate electricity even in low levels

of natural light and are less affected by

fluctuations in temperature.

This inherent flexibility allows ICOSUN®

to follow the shape of a roof structure,

even barrel roofs. As the self-adhesive

modules are bonded directly onto the

pre-installed waterproofing membrane,

installers do not need to work over the

top of the PV modules, risking damage,

and have the security of a fully sealed roof

beneath them.

• Enhancing the built environment• Wide ranging benefits, from storm

water attenuation to supporting biodiversity

• In-depth knowledge and understanding of the latest green roof technologies

• Innovative installation options

Increasingly popular across the UK,

green roofs are a welcome addition to the

urban – and rural - landscape, enhancing

a building’s appearance, contributing

to local biodiversity, and delivering a

sustainable roofing solution. Green roofs

create natural habitats for a wide range of

plants and animals, whilst also improving

air quality by absorbing atmospheric

carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen.

They also reduce stormwater run

off, contributing towards sustainable

drainage systems and can improve

overall building performance by

protecting roof surfaces from the

extremes of weather, and by keeping

building interiors cool during summer,

thereby reducing the need for air

conditioning.

Green roof design encom-passes a range of options:

Extensive green roofs are generally

intended to be viewed from another

location as a decorative/ecological

feature. Extensive green roofs require

lighter support, and can be installed on

pitched and sloping surfaces.

Brown or bio-diverse green roofs,

another type of extensive green roof

system, recreate the natural habitat of

the building’s location (perhaps even

blending into the landscape), and are

designed to support a specific range of

plant and animal species.

Intensive green roofs provide

recreational space and can incorporate

features such as paving, water, gardens

and trees. Intensive green roofs require

considerable structural support, and

significant maintenance post-installation.

Icopal green roof systems – impressive expertise and performance

Icopal green roof systems result from

extensive knowledge of green roof design

and installation and offer significant

advantages:

Green Roofs

Page 13: Company Overview - Curtis Moore (Cladding Systems) Ltd · aspects of an installation attain the same excellent quality through stringent project monitoring and a guaranteed support

12

Minimum roof loading:

Unique in the UK, the specialist growing

substrate FytocellTM, used in Icopal

Intensive green roof installations, is

typically one third the weight of topsoil.

It improves absorption of water and

nutrients making them available to the

plant and therefore encourages greater

root mass and ultimately plant quality.

Guaranteed waterproofing integrity:

Rather than treating a green roof as a

separate roofing element, Icopal ensures

compatibility between all elements of an

Icopal installed roof, thereby guaranteeing

waterproofing integrity across the entire

surface.

Single source supply:

As green roofing is just one of many

Icopal roofing solutions, any green roof

installed as part of an Icopal project will

be of the same high quality and covered

by a single waterproofing guarantee.

Design expertise:

An in-depth understanding of both green

roof options and design and building

constraints results in roofs which are fit for

purpose, long lasting and which do not

compromise thermal or waterproofing

integrity.

Quality installation:

Icopal’s network of trained and approved

contractors is available to install green

roofs and landscaping, and specialist

partner firms can also provide additional

planting and landscaping design, supply

or advice.

Icopal EasyGreen sedum module

A new alternative to sedum mats,

Icopal’s interlocking EasyGreen modules

can be laid down on top of an Icopal

waterproofing membrane to deliver

an instant green roof. With all roofing

components kept within the module,

EasyGreen is ideal for pitched roofs,

and can be retrofitted on top of existing

waterproofing membranes. The pre-

grown sedum plants are already rooted

within the module, making EasyGreen

tolerant of any wind uplift which can affect

exposed sites, and where sedum needs

to be anchored in position while it starts

to establish. In addition, the modules

incorporate both drainage channels

and water reservoirs, allowing improved

storm water management while also

maintaining a water supply for times of

drought.

17

Pitched Roofing• High performance membranes for

all roof configurations• Controlling condensation and

air flow• Improving energy efficiency

and weather resistance• Exceeding all relevant British

Standards

Effective pitched roof design requires

a fundamental understanding of the

interaction between different roofing

elements and external conditions. Key

performance requirements include

weather protection, reduced air

movement to improve thermal

performance and opportunities for

moisture to escape. Achieving the

ideal balance requires considerable

experience and the use of high

performance materials that meet and

exceed current British Standards,

thereby guaranteeing the performance

levels required. Traditional roof design

often treats each construction element

in isolation, accepting the inevitable

inefficiencies that result, for example,

installing a vent in an otherwise highly

insulated roofspace. Icopal’s range of

products are designed to work both

individually and in combination with one

another in order to deliver highly efficient,

high performance roofs.

Monarperm Breather Membranes

Pioneered by Icopal in the 1970s,

the first breather membranes

were straightforward, semi-permeable

barriers, but new technologies and

design innovations have resulted in

far more advanced vapour permeable

membranes. These greatly improve

roof efficiency by allowing water vapour

to pass easily into the tile area, reducing

moisture levels, and eliminating the risk

of condensation. They also prevent dust

infiltration, reduce the risk of tile uplift,

and further enhance other insulation and

waterproofing materials.

MonarTile Undertile Linings

Versatile, strong and durable, the

MonarTile range of undertile linings deliver

exceptional performance in applications

of every size and in every location,

whether domestic or commercial.

MonarTile linings reduce wind load on

tiles or slates, while providing secondary

protection against wind-driven rain,

snow and dust. Competitively priced,

and readily available across the UK, the

membranes are designed to make on-

site handling significantly easier, and

a range of tailored accessories also

ensures a successful installation.

Page 19: Company Overview - Curtis Moore (Cladding Systems) Ltd · aspects of an installation attain the same excellent quality through stringent project monitoring and a guaranteed support

18

AirSmart

AirSmart - the intelligent choice in airtight

systems - will provide an airtight building

that reduces unnecessary heat loss and

condensation problems in your roof

space.

Air tightness is absolutely essential if you

want to live in a healthy environment that

reduces your heating bill by eliminating

heat loss and subsequently also your

CO2 emission. It also protects the building

envelope from harmful condensation

in walls and roof spaces that can form

mould, mildew and rot resulting in the

decay of the construction and potentially

leading to health risks.

The AirSmart solution consists of two

specially designed membranes, both

presenting benefits depending on the

construction requirement in new build

or refurbishment projects. Since air

tightness involves a lot more than just

membranes, Icopal also offer a range

of specially designed tapes for overlaps,

details and upstands. Monosleeve pre-

made flexible collars for electric or pipe

penetrations provide an easy, fast and

airtight solution.

Therm’X

Therm’X is an innovative insulating,

high vapour permeable pitched roof

membrane with a reflective surface that

helps to improve internal building comfort

and performance whilst saving energy.

Therm’X improves internal comfort

levels in summer by reflecting infrared

rays and reduces heat loss in winter by

reflecting heat back into the building.

The integrated insulation mat assists in

improving thermal performance.

Research shows that Therm’X can

provide a reduction of radiant summer

heat between 4-9oC therefore positively

contributing to maintaining internal

building comfort levels.

Bitumen Shingles

Roof Shingles are an increasingly

popular choice for both domestic and

commercial roof applications in the UK

particularly where lightweight structures

are involved.

Roof Shingles are a primary

waterproofing solution across Canada

and the USA and Icopal have developed

a wide range of attractive and durable

Bitumen Roof Shingles in a choice of

colour and shape to produce a long

lasting, highly decorative waterproofing

product which will suit all design and

budget considerations.

Decra® Roof Systems• A lightweight, steel based

alternative to traditional tiles • Suitable for roof pitches as

low as 10°• Low whole life cost of ownership • Highly secure, durable and

weather resistant with a 30 year guarantee

Replicating the appearance of

traditional clay, concrete or slate tiles,

Decra® tiles comprise a galvanised

steel core protected by a resilient,

multi-layer coating and stone or

powder coated finish. The resulting

tile is typically one seventh the weight

of traditional alternatives, requires far

less maintenance and is much more

secure, able to withstand both extreme

weather and most vandalism.

Manufactured on four continents and

sold in over 70 countries, Decra® is

the world’s most popular metal tiling

system. The lightweight construction

makes the tiles easy to handle and

install on pitched or vertical surfaces,

and even on a lighter roof construction,

thereby significantly reducing overall

construction time and cost. As Decra®

tiles are dry-fixed, installation is not

weather dependent and the secure

fixing method eliminates the risk of

repair or replacement during a roof’s

lifetime, further reducing whole life cost

of the building.

Proven application – whatever the building, whatever the weather

Since Decra® launched in 1977, over

12 million square metres of Decra® tiles

have been installed in new build and

refurbishment projects across the UK

and Ireland.

The tiles’ unique fastening method

provides much greater resistance to

wind uplift and driving rain and has

seen Decra® roofs withstand

tornadoes, monsoons, blizzards and

hurricanes – highly relevant considering

the effects of possible climate change

and the expected increase in ‘extreme’

weather events.

Wide ranging colours, designs, finishes and accessories

Decra® tiles are available in a variety

of lightweight profiles, gauges, colours

and finishes, from high lustre steel to

traditional clay and concrete. Options

also include a solar-reflective finish, with

added infrared emissivity, designed to

reduce interior temperatures and the

need for air conditioning and a highly

water repellant and therefore self-

cleaning ‘dry roof’ coating. Decra®

rainwater systems, insulation and tile

support systems.

Police preferred

Due to their secure fixing system, Decra®

tiles are far more resistant to damage or

forced removal than traditional tiles and

in 2006, Decra® became the first UK

roofing manufacturer to gain Secured

by Design accreditation awarded by

the Association of Chief Police Officers.

Impressive guarantees Decra® offers a 30 year guarantee not

only on individual tiles, but also on the

complete weather security of an entire

roof.

A safe and sustainable option

Decra® tiles are a highly sustainable

option. They contain around 25 per

cent recycled steel and at one seventh

(or less) the weight of traditional

alternatives, they consume less

energy per unit during transport and

installation, also requiring less strength

(and therefore building materials) in the

supporting roof.

A single truckload of Decra® tiles

represents up to eight truckloads of

traditional alternatives and the steel

core means that they don’t break in

transit, representing a considerable

reduction in transport costs, wastage

and CO2 emissions. Solar reflective tiles

can further reduce the energy required

to run air conditioning or other cooling

systems.

In terms of safety, Decra®’s dry-fix

design requires no grinding on-site

– therefore no dust – and quick and

easy installation reduces the risk of

accidents. Once in place, minimal

maintenance further reduces the need

to go on the roof and risk a fall.

Building ProtectionProtecting the work site

• Temporary protection from weather and falling debris

• Scaffold sheeting for major building sites and low rise developments

• Secure fixing technology• Prime advertising opportunities• Tarpaulins for all domestic and

industrial applications

Building on its considerable expertise in

roofing, Icopal has developed a range

of products designed to offer temporary

weather and debris protection for

building sites of all sizes, as well as

industrial applications and domestic

use.

Monarflex® Scaffold Sheeting

Developed in conjunction with major

contractors, Monarflex® Scaffold

Sheeting provides weather protection

for both building sites and construction

teams, while also protecting the

environment and general public from

falling debris. The sheeting allows

building work to continue even in

adverse weather conditions, while

ensuring building sites meet Health and

Safety Guidelines regarding the fall of

building materials, and are compliant

with relevant British Code of Practice

Standards.

Manufactured from a co-polymer mix

of low density polyethylene (LDPE)

and a reinforcing mesh of polyester

filaments, Monarflex® Scaffold Sheeting

offers the high levels of puncture and

tear resistance necessary for long term

use in a demanding site environment,

whether during the construction or

demolition. The Monarflex® patented

eyelet fastening system provides further

protection; eyelets remain sealed from

wind and rain when not in use, and are

highly resistant to pull-out, ensuring the

scaffold sheeting is both easy to erect

and remains secure once in place.

Range of performance options

A range of sizes and performance levels

are available for either traditional tube

and fit scaffolding or modern modular

systems. Standard sheeting offers

exceptional resistance to wear, tear and

weather, but additional options include

Page 23: Company Overview - Curtis Moore (Cladding Systems) Ltd · aspects of an installation attain the same excellent quality through stringent project monitoring and a guaranteed support

flame retardant sheeting for internal

(LPS 1207) and external (LPS 1215) fire

risk areas, extra strong sheeting – one

of the strongest currently available –

and flame retardant containment

netting if high winds are a significant

risk and sheeting is not a viable option.

An additional range, Scaffband, is ideal

for shorter term or low rise projects

where high wind is not a risk factor,

and a temporary roof cover (TRC) is

also available, specially designed for

lightweight modular systems.

Monarflex® DigiWrap - digital printing for scaffold sheeting

To take advantage of the high profile

exposure afforded by a sheeted

construction site, Monarflex® can also

digitally print full colour logos, messages

and imagery onto even the largest

scaffold sheeting expanse, creating

both continuous banner advertising or

logo runs which can wrap around a

development site or produce full height

images. Offering a six-month minimum

lifespan, this advertising option is

surprisingly cost-effective and highly

versatile.

Monarflex® tarpaulins

Monarflex® high quality tarpaulins

provide a strong, secure and durable

means of protecting assets from

weather damage in wide ranging

domestic and industrial applications. A

Monarflex® tarpaulin can also be used

as a temporary roof covering. Options

include SuperTarp, an exceptionally

strong, high quality reinforced tarpaulin

ideal for long term use, which also

offers unique eyelets for fixing; and

EconoTarp, offering cost effective

protection in milder weather conditions.

Specially designed straps, ties and

tapes enable users to firmly secure their

tarpaulin, whatever the application.

Structural Gas Protection and Waterproofing• Full consultancy service

minimises system failure risk• Gas protection systems for

contaminated land development• Tanking solutions backed by

industry leading expertise• Geomembrane linings ideal for

water features, landfill cover and secondary containment

Icopal’s structural waterproofing range

provides high performance protection and

containment solutions for applications

including the sustainable regeneration

of brownfield and contaminated land,

gas control systems, tanking, and water

containment for dry sites, or major water

features.

Expertise is essential in this particularly

challenging sector where many con-

struction projects are highly ambitious

and complete protection often essential.

Icopal draws on over 20 years’ experience

of complex geotechnical applications to

provide a complete service, from initial

consultancy through to site inspection,

manufacture, delivery and installation.

This comprehensive support is designed

to eliminate costly system failures,

often resulting from highly complex

construction parameters, technical

inexperience, or a misunderstanding of

product capabilities. By exploiting Icopal’s

extensive knowledge, contractors can be

reassured that the correct solution has

been specified, the site properly prepared

and installation undertaken to the required

standard. In addition, when installed

by one of Icopal’s directly employed

installation teams, guarantees can be

provided to ensure that performance is

sustained over the longer term.

Geomembrane containment linings

Icopal’s geomembrane containment

linings are ideal for:

• Water storage, including irrigation

supply, balancing reservoirs to control

rainwater run-off, and firewater

reserves.

• Storm water collection systems.

• Reed beds.

• Reservoir roofs.

• Contaminated land barriers.

• Secondary containment of facilities

such as oil storage tanks.

• Water features, from garden ponds to

major leisure features.

• Containment of invasive plant species.

High performance features for challenging environments

Icopal offers a choice of either reinforced

or non-reinforced membranes. The

reinforced Gridline range, a multi-layer

membrane reinforced with polyester,

demonstrates exceptional tensile

strength and tear resistance and offers a

Page 27: Company Overview - Curtis Moore (Cladding Systems) Ltd · aspects of an installation attain the same excellent quality through stringent project monitoring and a guaranteed support

26

variety of performance grades for different

applications. Blackline, a non-reinforced

alternative, combines polyester with

blown and extruded film, delivering

outstanding multiaxial elongation and

puncture resistance in addition to

chemical and UV resistance.

Gas control solutions

Building Regulations demand the

installation of a gas control system

within new buildings if there is a risk of

gas reaching dangerous concentrations

within interior spaces. This risk is

particularly common when building

on brownfield sites, especially those

contaminated by gas generating

chemicals and heavy hydrocarbons; on

or near old landfill sites or sites containing

large quantities of peat, coal or river silt,

which can give rise to naturally occurring

methane; and sites located in radon

affected areas.

Suitable for residential and commercial applications

Icopal’s gas control systems provide a

passive, non-mechanical, maintenance

free solution. In residential applications,

the system employs gas barriers, venting

layers and perimeter vents which can be

applied to both ground bearing concrete

floor slabs and suspended beam and

block floor designs. The same system

principles also apply to commercial

or industrial applications, where more

complex design and detailing support

can be provided.

Tanking and DPM systems

Icopal’s tanking and DPM systems

create completely dry environments,

and Icopal can advise on the design

and detail of tanking systems, a process

which requires expertise in construction

constraints such as hydrostatic pressure

relating to the water table, seasonal

variations and the existence of other

hazards such as gas control risks.

Cold and hot applied options

Icopal tanking solutions provide a variety

of options:

• Cold applied technologies, requiring

no heat during installation, including

membranes and accessories which

can be self-adhered, paint applied, or

loose laid.

• Hot applied technologies, including

‘torch-on’ or ‘pour-on’ products where

the membrane’s bituminous surface is

heated in order to provide a high quality

waterproof seal.

Roof Safety Systems• Fully compliant with current

Health and Safety legislation• versatile options that will not

damage existing roof surfaces• Line based, fall protection

systems and guard rail options

Current Health and Safety legislation

states that all ‘dutyholders’ – which

can include architects, facilities

managers, contractors and building

owners – could be liable in the event

of a workplace accident. Icopal’s

comprehensive roof fall protection

solutions and services, ranging from

system selection to certification, ensure

that dutyholders are in full compliance

with all the demands of an increasingly

onerous regulatory environment.

Versatility is essential in a roof safety

system where variables include roof

design, number and competency of the

workers being protected, how often and

for how long the system will be used,

and which parts of the roof need to be

accessed (or avoided). Icopal’s expert

advice ensures that the roof safety

system selected best meets the needs

of all those who depend on it and with

new innovations regularly introduced,

Icopal can both assess safety needs

and advise on the best solutions.

Icopal’s roof safety system range has

been developed in partnership with

Latchways plc, the market leader in

the design and manufacture of cable-

based fall protection systems.

KwikLine fall protection systems

The use of anchored wire restraints is a

well established method of preventing

falls, but has significant disadvantages.

As wires must be attached to the building

structure, worker access depends on

the availability of suitable anchoring

points, system installation can be

time consuming and the installation of

additional anchors can damage the roof

below, compromising warranties and

affecting roof performance, especially

watertightness.

Icopal’s KwikLine solution, guaranteed

for use within an Icopal roofing

system, uses an independently fixed

anchoring system installed from above

by specialist teams. The system does

not depend on fixed posts and can be

installed on most types of structurally

sound roof decks. Workers, wearing full

body harnesses and energy absorbing

lanyards, are constantly attached to the

system using a Latchways Transfastener

which allows hands-free support. As a

result, wires can be anchored wherever

is most appropriate to the work being

carried out and without compromising

the waterproofing integrity of the roof

Page 29: Company Overview - Curtis Moore (Cladding Systems) Ltd · aspects of an installation attain the same excellent quality through stringent project monitoring and a guaranteed support

28

below. Depending on safety training,

lanyards can either restrain workers, or

allow adjustable, fully protected access

to all parts of the roof.

Key components are manufactured

from marine-grade stainless steel

and the system is ideal for flat or

gently sloping roofs (up to 15o). An

extensive range of accessories extends

applications further, including the

ManGuard Weighted Anchor System

for roofs where penetration is not

suitable or possible, or where only

temporary access is required; and anti-

slip walkways for both bitumen and

single ply roofing surfaces.

KwikGuard guard rail systems

KwikGuard edge protection systems

do not need to be fixed directly onto the

roof surface therefore minimising the risk

of compromising waterproof integrity.

Using a counterbalanced, cantilever de

sign and locking principles, the system

comprises uprights and cross rails with

a further option, Parapet KwikGuard,

designed to provide protection on

parapets wider than 300mm.

KwikGuard is quick and easy to

assemble with angled uprights reducing

rail visibility from below, improving the

aesthetic appearance of the system

once installed. A robust galvanised

finish is supplied as standard, but

the system can be powder-coated if

required.

Extra security

A range of additional products enable

specifiers to create a system which

meets all safety needs both during

construction and beyond: the Dadome

roofhatch allows safe access to the roof

area; and access ladders, platforms,

walkways, grills and stopovers - all

made from galvanised steel - can also

be fitted as part of the safety system.

Icopal also provides a range of personal

protection equipment, including

harnesses and lanyards.

Rooflights / WindowsDadomeRooflights• Bringing valuable natural light into

the interior• versatile design and outstanding

construction• Meets all relevant and current

Building Regulations• Ideal for all flat roofs - domestic, commercial and industrial

Natural light inside a building creates a

better quality environment for all those

who work or live there – improving

concentration, productivity and general

well-being. This is now recognised

in Building Regulations Part L 2006

(England and Wales), which specifically

notes the effectiveness of rooflights in

the provision of valuable daylight and

the associated reduction in artificial

lighting. Dadome rooflights are an ideal

way to bring light through a flat roof,

whether installed individually, in numbers,

or as a vaulted system ideal for larger

commercial or industrial buildings.

Impressive benefits

Dadome rooflights do much more than

just provide a window to the sky:

Environmental and economic advantages

Rooflights increase passive solar gain,

reducing the need for artificial light

and, as a result, dramatically reduce a

building’s total energy consumption and

associated CO2 emissions.

Guaranteed to perform

Specially designed to meet growing

demand from the flat roofing market,

Dadome rooflights’ 10 year guarantee

promises exceptional performance, as

the rooflights won’t leak, show excessive

changes in colour or light transmission, or

lose impact strength due to weathering.

In addition, if installed as part of an

Icopal approved roofing system, and by

an approved contractor, the rooflights

can become part of a 20 year system

guarantee (subject to conditions).

High performance features

Reflecting the many flat roof designs

currently being installed, Dadome

rooflights offer a range of design options:

Accessories and ventilation options
