CSM-Process

Mixing of self-hardening slurries with native soils by using a modified trench cutter technique is a new and effective method for constructing cut-off walls, earth retaining walls and soil improvement as well as for the construction of foundation elements.

CSM is mainly used for stabilizing soft or loose soils (non cohesive and cohesive). The machinery used, derived from Bauer’s cutter technology and extends the applicability of this method to much harder strata when compared to other methods of soil mixing.

Main advantages of the method are:

– High productivity – The in-situ soil is used as a construction material – Very little generation of spoil (important factor in contaminated areas)

– No vibrations induced during construction – Extended depths (up to 80 m) can be reached – when using the rope suspended units.

Cutting and Mixing Units

The "Quattro Cutter" consists of a frame and two BCM 5 units – one at the bottom and one at the top of the frame. Mounting two mixing heads ensures intensive and homogeneous mixing as well as high directional accuracy particularly at greater depths.

The Standard Cutter is a base carrier (MT 75) for rope suspended CSM Soil Mixing systems. It can be equipped with either a Tandem Cutter or a Quattro Cutter mixing unit. The hydraulic hoses and the hoist ropes are spooled onto one hose winding drum. The Standard Cutter can reach mixing depths of 60 m even in limited headroom conditions of 6.6 m only.

The Side Cutter is a further development based on the Standard Cutter. The entire unit, including hydraulic hoses, hoist ropes, drum and boom, has been raised and mounted on a slew ring. The unit can be turned sideways allowing the cutter to work at the side of the base machine. The Side Cutter can also be equipped with either a Tandem Cutter or a Quattro Cutter.

A standard MC 64 is equipped with this HWS, known from the "Compact CSM Systems". By mounting the Hose Winch System instead of the counterweight of the MC, a machine with very limited height is created.
