1. The Stratego Project

• Denmark event sponsored by Stratego during September 2015

• Attended by various Scottish Councils

• The project aims to aid:

the development of effective heating and cooling plans

and build capacities to deliver Scottish District Heating on

the ground.

2. Dronninglund District Heating • District Heating Scheme started in 1959

• Approximately 30 Miles of Pipework

• 1,350 Houses, population 3,300 people

• Annual production of 40,000 Megawatt Hours (MWh)

• Annual turnover of approximately £3.3 Million Pounds

• According to the Danish District Heating law companies are non-profit, and thus cannot yield a profit from selling heat.

• Infrastructure Owned & Operated by the Customers

3. Dronninglund District Heating • Current Energy Production Plant: • 4no Combined Heat & Power Gas Engines delivering 3.6 MW of

power and 6.4 MW of Heat

• 1no Emergency Gas Boiler that can deliver 8 MW of Heat

• 1no Bio-Oil Boiler with associated absorption Heat Pump, with a total output of 6 MW

• 1no Bio-Oil Hot Water Boiler producing 10 MW

• New Solar Thermal Plant – Approx. 37,573 m2 of solar panels, producing 27 MW with associated seasonal heat storage of 60,000 M3 of water.

19. Contrasts

• History / culture

• Community not “Utility”

• Not for profit

• No direct public funding

• Local innovation and commitment

• Simple business model

• Not about fuel type / single source
