COMMITTEE MEETING

MINUTES

1. COMMITTEE ATTENDANCE:

Crs K J Casey (Chairperson), L G Bonaventura, J F Englert, R C Gee, F A Mann (nee

Fordham) and Mayor G R Williamson were in attendance at the commencement of the

meeting.

2. NON-COMMITTEE ATTENDANCE:

Also present were Cr R D Walker, Cr A R Paton, Cr K L May, Mr C Doyle (Chief

Executive Officer), Ms B Mather (Director Community and Client Services) and Mrs

M Iliffe (Minute Secretary).

The meeting commenced at 1.00 pm.

8.1 COMMUNITY AND CLIENT SERVICES MONTHLY REVIEW 1

TO 30 NOVEMBER 2016

Purpose

Attached is a copy of the Community and Client Services Monthly Review for the

month of November 2016.

Officer's Recommendation

THAT the Community and Client Services Monthly Review covering the period

1 to 30 November 2016 be received.

The Director Community and Client Services (DCCS) spoke to the Report.

Cr Englert advised he attended both of the taxi driver presentations and believes this is

initiative is a great idea and the presentations by the Mayor, Mackay Tourism and the

MECC gave the taxi drivers an overview of what is occurring in the region. Feedback

received since the presentations has been very positive and are spreading the word.

The Mayor commented on the Animal Welfare Committee Meeting which was held

recently and congratulated the relevant officers in organising this meeting as there were

as many representatives of people who have an interest in animal welfare management

in the region in attendance. The meeting was an excellent well managed meeting with

forthright discussion occurring and a great step forward in animal management for the

Mackay region. The Animal Welfare Committee will be reporting back to Council

through the Community Engagement Committee going forward.

Cr Mann (nee Fordham) commented in relation to the compliance and Local Laws

Officers in their patrol of various walking areas for dogs not on leads. Councillors

receive requests from residents in relation to dogs no on leads and this proactive

approach is most welcome.

Cr Casey advised there were 36 people attend the two (2) grant writing workshops both

in Mackay and Sarina.

Cr Casey advised Monday 5 December 2016 was International Volunteers Day and in

2017 Mackay will host the Inaugural Volunteer Expo on Sunday 7 May at the Senior

Citizens Hall. A lot of organisations, particularly in Council would not function

without the assistance from the fantastic volunteers. Cr Casey thanked all of the

residents who volunteer their time and hope they enjoyed they Volunteers Day.

Cr Bonaventura advised the Council in Community Day was excellent and the variety

of topics and places the Councillors attended was great. The ability to listen and

communicate with the residents was well received by the Councillors and thanked all

concerned.

12. LATE BUSINESS:

Cr Mann (nee Fordham) highlighted the activities held on Friday 25 November 2016 -

Zonta's Orange Day Breakfast held at Blue Water Quay, White Ribbon Day, swearing

of the Pledge "Never Commit, Condone or Remain Silence About Violence Against

Women” and Qld Councils of Unions dinner where every male present stood and swore

the Pledge. While there is a long way to go in relation to domestic violence but if

everyone can be proactive then perceptions can be changed and let victims know as

individuals and communities we are not going to stand by and accept there are people

still suffering from domestic violence issues.

Cr Casey commented that several Councillors were in attendance at the two (2)

functions held at the Blue Water Quay.

Cr Casey advised the Foods for Fine initiative is still going at the libraries but will be

closing on 17 December 2016 with the non-perishable donated goods will be delivered

to two (2) local charities - Anglicare and St Vincent De Paul's.

Cr Casey advised the Mackay City Library is now closed in preparation for the move to

the new Dudley Denny City Library.

Cr Bonaventura advised the Habana Carols Under the Stars will be held on Saturday 17

December commencing at 7 pm and the theme this year is "White Christmas", everyone

is welcome to attend.
