    1.5 Quality Assurance

    1.5.1 Door frames, doors and door hardware installer

    1.5.1.2 Only qualified specialist door frame, shutter and door hardware installers having minimum five (5) years proven experience in this type of Works shall be engaged. Submit proof of experience upon instructions from the Engineer.

    1.5.2 Pre-installation meeting:

    1.5.2.1 Prior to commencing Works of this Section, arrange for the manufacturer(s) technical representatives to review with the Contractor and the Engineer procedures to be adopted, conditions under which the Works of this Section shall be done, and inspect the surfaces to receive the products, in order that any alternate provisions may be considered should adverse conditions be encountered on site.

    1.5.3 Verification of performance:

    1.5.3.1 Arrange for manufacturer's technical representative to inspect the Works of this Section at intervals during installation and on completion submit written verification of compliance with specifications and relevant standards.

    1.5.4 Quality control specimens:

    1.5.4.1 Provide quality control specimens in accordance with requirements of the Conditions of the Contract and Sections of Division 01.

    1.5.4.2 Install quality control specimens of exterior hollow metal doors and frames. interior hollow metal doors and frames, fire rated hollow metal doors and frames, exterior wood doors, interior wood doors and frames (door sets) and fire rated, interior wood doors and frames (door sets) on the Site where directed by the Engineer.

    1.5.4.3 Quality control specimens shall include all Works of this Section for exterior hollow metal doors and frames, interior hollow metal doors and frames, fire rated hollow metal doors and frames, exterior wood doors, interior wood doors and frames (door sets) and fire rated, interior wood doors and frames (door sets), with all door finish hardware and fire rated door finish hardware for the fire rated doors. Co-ordinate Works required for quality control specimens with all Works of other Sections. Make all adjustments as directed by the Engineer.

    1.5.4.4 Do not proceed with the Works of this Section until the quality control specimens have been reviewed and accepted by the Engineer. Reviewed and accepted quality control specimens shall be retained and shall serve as the minimum acceptable standard for the Works of this Section. The quality control specimens shall be incorporated into the finished Works of this Section if so permitted by Engineer.

    1.6 Submittals

    1.6.1 Product data:

    1.6.1.1 Submit product data Division 01.

    1.6.3 Quality assurance certificates:

    1.6.3.1 Submit quality assurance certificates in accordance with the Conditions of the Contract and Sections of Division 01.

    1.6.3.2 Provide authentic copies of quality assurance certificates stating that the installer is and will be for the duration of the Works of this Section, ISO 9001 and ISO 9002 registered.

    1.6.4 Maintenance instructions:

    1.6.4.1 Submit maintenance instructions in accordance with the Conditions of the Contract and Sections of Division 01.

    1.6.4.2 State clearly warning of any maintenance practice or materials which may damage or have adverse effects on the installation of the Works of this Section. Indicate methods and products recommended for cleaning.

    1.7 Environmental conditions

    1.7.1 Wood doors:

    1.7.1.1 Conform to the requirements laid down by the manufacturer's written instructions.

    1.8 Delivery, storage, handling and protection

    1.8.1 Hollow metal doors. frames and screens:

    1.8.1.1 Co-ordinate deliveries to comply with construction schedule and arrange in advance for off-the-ground, under cover storage location. Do not load any area beyond the plot limits.

    1.8.1.2 Adequately protect the hollow metal doors, frames and screens against rust and damage during delivery and storage.

    1.8.1.3 Store the hollow metal doors, frames and screens in accordance with the requirements of NAAMM/HMMA 840 and on planks in a dry area and cover to protect from damage. Make good immediately any damage done. Clean scratches and touch-up with rust-inhibitive primer as required and to the satisfaction of Engineer.

    1.8.2 Wood doors and frames:

    1.8.2.1 Co-ordinate deliveries to comply with construction schedule and arrange in advance for off-the-ground, under cover storage location. Do not load any area beyond the plot limits.

    1.8.2.2 Do not permit delivery of the wood doors and frames to the Site until the building(s) are sufficiently dry, wet trades are completed and the moisture readings of surfaces in the proposed storage area(s) are less than 18%.

    1.8.2.3 Wood doors and frames shall be carefully checked, unloaded, stored and handled to prevent damage. Store wood doors and frames flat on level surface. Protect wood doors and frames with suitable non-staining waterproof coverings, but allow for air circulation at sides.

    1.8.3 Door hardware:

    1.8.3.1 Arrange with the Main Contractor to provide adequate secured hardware storage room for storage of hardware on site.

    1.8.3.2 Door hardware shall be delivered to the Site by Hardware Subcontractor. General Installations Subcontractor shall off-load hardware and place in designated room,

    checking and verifying delivered quantities in coordination with Hardware Subcontractor.

    1.9 Door Schedule

    1.9.1 Works of this Section shall comply with the content of DOOR SCHEDULE as indicated on drawings. It is the responsibility of Doors Sub-contractor to verify and co-ordinate the information indicated on the Architectural Drawings and the DOOR SCHEDULE for construction and obtain Engineer clarification I approval on discrepancies discovered, if any, prior to commencement of Assembly/Erection on Site.

    PART2 PRODUCTS

    2.1 Products

    2.1.1 Refer to the installation:

    following Sections for products to be supplied under this Section for

    2.1.1.1 Section 08 11 13 - Steel Doors and Frames: for hollow metal doors and pressed steel frames and screens.

    PART3 EXECUTION

    3.1 Door frames, shutters and hardware examination and preparation

    3.1 .1 Examine substrate surfaces to receive the Works of this Section and ensure that Works done as part of the other Sections are complete and that there are no conditions which will adversely affect the performance of the Works of this Section. Notify the Contractor of any unsatisfactory conditions. Do not proceed with the Works of this Section until unsatisfactory conditions have been rectified. Commencement of the Works of this Section implies acceptance of surfaces and conditions.

    3.2 Door frames, shutters and hardware installation guide

    3.2.1 Refer to ANSI/DHA, Installation Guide for Doors and Hardware as a guide to the installation of interior hollow metal doors and frames, exterior hollow metal doors and frames, fire rated hollow metal doors and frames, interior wood doors and frames, exterior wood doors, fire rated wood doors and frames, and architectural door hardware. Its use will contribute to the elimination of field problems due to faulty installation. Copies of this guide can be obtained from the Door and Hardware Institute, 14170 Newbrook Drive, Chantilly, VA 22021 -2223, Tel: 703-222-2010, Fax: 703-222-2410.

    3.3 Fire rated doors, fire rated door frames and hardware

    3.3.1 NFPA 80 and BWF Building Regulations, Approved Document B requires that all fire doors be machined for hardware before the doors can be labelled.

    3.3.2 Install interior fire rated wood door frames where indicated in masonry walls, concrete walls, plaster and gypsum board partitions in accordance with the NFPA 80, the British Woodworking Federation (BWF) - Certifire Fire Door and Door Set Scheme and 85476, Parts 20,21,22 and 23.

    3.3.3 NFPA 80 requires that all fire doors be prepared for locks, latches, hinges, concealed closers, glass lites, vision panels, louvres, astragals and laminated overlays by the door manufacturer or his licensee in conformance with the manufacturer's inspection service procedure and under label service. Exceptions to this ruling include, but are not limited to, the following: preparation for surface applied hardware, function holes for mortise locks, holes for labelled viewers, a maximum 19mm undercut on wood doors, and application of protection plates. These exceptions may be effected at the Site.

    3.3.4 Install fire labelled pressed steel frames in strict accordance with NFPA 80.

    3.3.5 Install fire labelled hinged hollow metal doors in strict accordance with NFPA 80.

    3.3.6 Install fire labelled hinged interior wood doors in strict accordance with NFPA 80, BS 476. Part 22, Part 31 and Part 31, Section 31.1 and BS 5588.

    3.3.7 Install fire labelled hardware in strict accordance with NFPA 80, BS476, Part 22, Part 31 and Part 31, Section 31.1 and BS5588.

    3.4 Frames and doors installation -general

    3.4.1 Carefully handle products to preclude damage to products and adjacent surfaces.

    3.4.2 Steel doors and frames shall be prepared with reinforcement in accordance with templates provided by Hardvvare Subcontractor. Report any variations to the Contractor.

    3.4.3 Interior wood doors shall be prepared in accordance with templates provided by Hardware Subcontractor. Report any variations to the Contractor.

    3.4.4 Exterior wood doors shall be prepared in accordance with Hardware Subcontractor. Report any variations to the Contractor.

    3.4.5 Place fire labelled doors and frames in their designated openings.

    3.5 Installation- pressed steel frames

    3.5.1 Install pressed steel door frames where indicated in masonry walls, concrete walls, plaster and gypsum board partitions in accordance with clearance and tolerance requirements specified in NAAMM I HMMA 840 and as specified herein.

    3.5.2 Install pressed steel sidelight, screen, and window frames where indicated in walls, concrete walls, plaster and gypsum board partitions.

    3.5.3 Temporary spreaders:

    3.5.3.1 Remove temporary steel spreaders prior to installation of frames.

    3.5.3.2 Fabricate wood spreaders square from timber no less than 25mm thick and of correct length (ie. door opening width between the jambs at the header). Cut clearance notches for frame stops. Install wood spreaders at the base of the frame and at the mid or strike point on the frame to maintain the door opening and to prevent bowing of the jambs. For frames over 1200mm width, provide vertical support at centre of head. Do not remove wood spreaders until the frames are set permanently in the wall or partition.

    3.5.4 Set frames plumb, square, level, and at correct elevation, maintaining uniform width and height within the following tolerances as measured by laser method;

    3.5.4.1 Squareness: 1.5mm measured on a line at 900 mm from one jamb, at the upper corner of the frame at the upper jamb.

    3.5.4.2 Alignment 1.5mm measured on the jambs on a horizontal line parallel to the plane of the wall.

    3.5.4.3 Twist 1.5mm measured at the face corners of the jambs on parallel lines perpendicu lar to the plane of the wall .

    3.5.4.4 Plumbness: 1.5mm measured on the jamb at the floor

    3.5.5 Anchor frames to walls and partitions using anchors supplied with frames.

    3.5.6 Brace frames rig idly in position while being bui lt in.

    3.5.7 Make allowance for deflection to ensure structural loads are not transmitted to frames.

    3.6 Installation -hollow metal doors

    3.6.1 Install hollow metal doors, in locations shown on Drawings and Schedules.

    3.6.2 Unless otherwise ind icated , provide edge clearances as fo llows;

    3.6.1 Between doors and frames at head and jambs: 3mm.

    3.6.2.2 At door bottom: 1 Omm maximum with no threshold and 6mm maximum with threshold.

    3.6.2.3 Between meeting edges of pairs of doors: 3mm.

    3.6.2.4 Between meeting edge of transom panel and door: 3mm.

    3.7 Installation- interior wood door frames (door sets)

    3.7.1 Install interior wood door frames where indicated in masonry walls, concrete walls, plaster and gypsum board partitions in accordance with clearance and tolerance requ irements specified in the ANSI/DHA A 115.1 G and the British Woodworking Federation (BWF) installation req uirements.

    3.7.2 Set frames plumb, square, level , and at correct elevation, maintaining uniform width and height

    3.7.3 Anchor frames to walls and partitions using concealed type anchors.

    3.8 Installation interior wood doors

    3.8.1 Install interior wood doors in accordance with manufacturer's instructions and ANSI/DHAA 115.1 G installation Requirement.

    3.8.2 Interior wood doors are specified in Section 08 14 00 to be factory profit, bevelled and machined to fit openings. If wood doors are delivered to the Site not machined, and requiring machining preparation at the Site, all hinge, lock and closer cavities shall be sealed the same day they are cut into the edges of the doors.

    3.8.3 Ensure doors prefit door frame width as trim undercut is permitted on door bottom only. Prefit tolerances shall be as specified in Section 08 14 00 and as follows;

    3.8.3.1 3mm at top and hinge edges.

    3.9.1 Install exterior wood doors in strict accordance with instructions, ANSI/DHA A 115.1 G.

Copies of this guide can be obtained from the Door and Hardware Institute, 14170 Newbrook Drive. Chantilly, VA 22021 -2223. Tel: 703-222-2010, Fax: 703-222-2410.

    3.1 0.2 Refer to Section 08 71 10 for installation of finishing hardware and as specified herein.

    3.10.3 Ensure that Sub-contractors(s) conform to the manufacturer's instructions for installation.

    3.10.4 Cut, drill and prepare doors based on template to receive hardware.

    3.10.5 Install hardware to doors and frames in accordance with manufacturer's printed installation, template, and adjusting instructions supplied by the Hardware Subcontractor I Contractor. Adjust all hardware as and when required to provide smooth operation of doors and ensure clearances are maintained. Repair damage to adjacent surfaces resulting from failure to comply with this requirement

    3.10.6 Provide lubricants as required and use in appropriate manner to ensure smooth function of hardware consistent with manufacturers' recommendations.

    3.10.7 Wood doors:

    3.10.7.1 Use correct sized drills and taps for screws provided. Do not use self-drilling screws unless necessary for items such as kickplates, push plates and door seals. Do not use power screw drivers for installation of lock and latchsets, panic hardware, door closers, or items secured to wood doors. Drill proper pilot holes and put screws in manually in wood doors.

    3.10.8 Ensure fastening components are tightened snugly. Do not burr or otherwise mar the Khatib & Alami (CEC) Section 08 05 00

    3.1 0.9 Install fire labelled hardware in strict accordance with NFPA 80, BS 476, Part 22, Part 31 and Part 31, Section 31 .1 and BS 5568.

    3.1 0.10 Thresholds:

    3. 10.1 0.1 Apply three (3) continuous runn ing beads of threshold sealant under thresholds using sealant gun method. Bead diameter shall be sufficient to ensure full width and tight seal. Remove excess sealant by methods acceptable to the Engineer and sealant manufacturer.

    3.11 Mounting heights

    3.11.1 Mounting heights of the hardware items shall be as indicated in Section 08 71 10- Door Hardware.

    3.12. Key control

    3.12.1 Provide key control cabinets and label keys as required. Instruct the Employer's personnel in proper use and function of key control system. Del iver master keys direct to the Employer and obtain receipt.

    3.13 Cleaning

    3.13.1 On a daily basis as the Works of this Section proceed, remove and dispose of all debris resulting from the Works of this Section, as directed by Engineer.

    3.13.2 Leave work areas of the Works of this Section broom clean at the end of each work day.

    3.14 Clear up
