The lessons will be taught in the club’s Flying Scots, the classes will be very small, and the sched-uling will be flexible with either weeknight or weekend sessions. The cost of the course is a real bargain at $100/ 8hrs of instruc-tion for members ($200 for non-members) and includes $20 of training material free. Anyone interested in this should call the office to sign up.
We’ve got more hot weather still to come this summer. Fortu-nately, there are a lot of reasons to come to the club to beat the heat in August.

If four-dollar gas and ninety degree plus temperatures have you down, you need to spend more time at the club. The pool is great (we finally won the algae bloom fight), the beer is cold, the omelets are deli-cious, and it’s always cooler on the water. The month of Au-gust will be full of opportuni-ties to enjoy the club. Mark your calendar for the Caribe Party on Saturday, August 16th. Caribe is always one of the best parties of the year and for this year we’ll even have a “Race to Caribe” fun race pre-ceding the party just to help get everyone in the island spirit.
Other things going on before this summer ends include the Knost Regatta at Pass Christian August 9-10, the Lipton Re-gatta at Bay Waveland August 29-31, and our summer close out, the Back to School Re-gatta September 6-7. Our one design sailors have been sail-
ing hard this year and getting great results. This could be THE YEAR!
For all of the members using the hoist yard, my thanks for your pa-tience. The city’s contractor has finally finished repairing the bulk-head. Fortunately for us, we were able to get the contractor to improve the cabling that secures the pilings over what was pre-existing. This was done with no out of pocket cost to the club, but with a tremendous amount of inconvenience to every-one using the yard. Now that this work is done, we can get back to focusing on other improvements needed for the yard.
Many of you will be glad to learn that adult sailing lessons are back. Bridget Jarvis has been working with Chris Morency to re-establish a program for adult sailing. Chris currently does a great job with our Junior Sailing Program, and has agreed to put on a program for adults interested in learning to sail.

July is our busiest month with four Regattas includ-ing the Jr. Lip-ton’s hosted by SYC July 19 and 20. Earlier this month out team achieved a third place overall at the Meigs regatta in Fort Walton. Congratulation to Susan Danielson who skippered to a first and third place.
In preparation for the Junior Lipton Cup competition our Junior team represented Pon-tYC at the Sum-mer Capdevielle regatta hosted by Mobil YC. Collin Ross and his team finished in sixth place in very windy conditions.

This year’s Junior Lipton regatta was very competitive. A special thank you to the many club members who came out to cheer for our team. The point spread of the top 5 finishers was only 3 points. The final race was overshadowed by a series of pro-tests which, if allowed, could have changed the overall outcome significantly. See final overall results opposite page.
Congratulations to our team for their
achievements and the hard work to prepare for this regatta. We have the good fortune to have the same team representing us in next year’s regatta hosted by Pensacola YC.
The final July Capdevielle event will be
the Weath-erly regatta hosted by Gulfport YC in conjunc-tion with GYC’s grand opening of their new club facilities on July 26 and 27.
GYC will have an Open Scot class and our sec-ond race boat will be avail-able to any PontYC member in-terested to participate in the Open Class compe-tition. Please coordinate with Billy
Ross, Rob Doolittle or myself.
August 9 and 10 our ladies will compete in the Knost regatta at Pass Christian YC.

OK Gang, It's hot out so the racing will be in the evenings all summer. The Friday night series is under way thru August. Also on August 16th we will have an Evening Race to the Caribe Party. Stay tuned for particu-lars.
On the racing front congratulations to Dennis Cheuvront and Ken Buhler co-skippering Touché placed sec-ond in class C and 15th overall in the Gulfport to Pensacola Race. If anyone else has results from other PYC boats racing out there let me know.

Due to current fuel prices, it’s not practical to motor Sea Sheppard all the way to Bay St. Louis
to serve as support and spectator boat. Instead we are asking members to use their trailerable boats.

July got off to a big start with a Fam-ily, fun packed July 4th. The Smoker Dudes , Bobby Lipscomb, and, Brian Burke cooked up chickens on their new king sized smoker. Grill Night and Bayou Self Saturday night ended the celebration. Thanks to all the volunteer’s especially, the afore-mentioned Smoker Dudes and Becky Deano, Eva and Jay Conner and Jenny O’Hara, that made
the weekend a success.
Kaia’s Sunday Brunch was another resounding success. Even though I did not get the word out until Thurs-day, we still had over 70 people eat omelets and the biggest, fluffiest biscuits I have ever seen. The next Sunday Brunch is August 10th.
I served over forty hotdogs on Dawg Night, which we will repeat on Au-gust 6th.
Jean Sparkman put on a great Cheap Food Friday on July 25; our next one is August 29. Stephanie Sollberger is in charge of that one.
This month is one of our two big par-ties of the year. Caribe, the end all Caribbean themed blowout.
As of press time the band had not been booked but the menu has been set. The Smoker Dudes (including David Sides) are at it again with Smoked Boston Butts, Caribbean Cole Slaw, Black Beans and Coco-nut Rice, Mango Cheesecake, Key Lime Pie, Bread and Butter. We are also looking into a special frozen drink to get you mamboing the night away.
Game night this month will be Thurs-day August 21. We are changing Game Night to the third Thursday of the month to take advantage of the bar staying open one hour later. Ladies, how about some Mexican Train or Banana Grams? Games aren’t just for men.

This is hopefully the first of a monthly series of reports on the finer points of hunting and fishing at the Club. Your contributions of pictures, recipes and the occasional lie... I mean story of the one that got away are always welcomed.
In June the Tallyho Club sponsored a Father/ Son Fishing Rodeo where the Sollberger/ Choate team caught several 20lb black drum on dead shrimp in Chef Pass. June also brought the start of the brown shrimp season on our area; with several successful runs made on my boat.
July was a banner month for shrimp-ing in Lake Pontchartrain with big commercial fishing vessels as well
as recreational fishermen plying the Causeway.
Fishing in the Lake is sporadic as always. During the heat of the sum-mer reports of a 100 count trout catch for the weekend by Peggy and Mike Brumfield seem to make the trip worth it. Other successes are com-mon, with my boat pulling in over a dozen 3-5 lb trout on live croakers. The Sollberger family continued their run as well with several nice trout catches along the Causeway. Both Sollberger and Brumfield camps re-ported that flailing away with artifi-cials actually produced more than live bait. Consider a few packs of
Blue Moon Deadly Dudleys with char-treuse tails for your next venture.
June and July found David Bol-yard on Fin Atic offshore. Fin Atic had two success-ful runs to Venice recently with full limits of Red Snapper at the rigs on both occasions. The Tuna and Wahoo are still out there and as elusive as ever, several hook-ups but none boated. The first trip also had the frenzied excitement of finding a school of Dolphin while trolling the rips. Nine Dolphins
came into the boat! The second trip produced a 4 foot Barracuda, which is always interesting to catch!
Tips for the month and things to remember:
• Dave Bolyard’s advice is that changing your line is always a good idea. Sev-eral break offs on recent trips are attributed to older line on reels. If you can’t
remember the last time you change your line, its probably time.
• With the summer heat upon us early morning and late evening are producing more fish.
• For those of us who want to stay out, Vaughan Sollberger rec-ommends working the causeway pilings with plastics, dropping them as close to the pilings as possible. Wildlife and Fisheries has been patrolling the Lake, so check your boat for all safety equipment, check your lights and most impor-tant check your fishing license. Last year’s license expired on June 30th 2008. You can renew your
license online at www.wlf.state.la.us.
Things to look forward to:
• Sharks can be harvested again. They are quite tasty if you don’t mind the toothy little critters in your boat.
• The end of August will herald the beginning of white shrimp sea-son. Anyone interested in trying out this type of fishing is welcome on my boat. PYC’s 3rd Annual Fishing Rodeo – anyone with ideas, contributions, input and assistance can contact me.
Send me pictures of successes, helpful hints, fish stories and what and how you are catching and I’ll include them in future articles. Recipes are welcomed also; my family has started keeping logs of delicious culinary experiments, a great way to spice up your weekly menu.
