When the reviewer wrote those words 4 years ago, Commencal was hardly what you would call a household name in the USA. Now numerous World Championships later, we feel lucky to be offering the bikes that everyone wants. It’s tempting to think about sitting back and resting on our successes, but that’s wholly against our nature. We never stop innovating, tinkering, perfecting. Okay, so what, you ask, is on tap for 2010?

First of all, we are stoked to launch a complete range of bikes and frames in Carbon. You were warned; the arrival of the Skin last year offered a taste of things to come. The Super 4 Carbon and the Meta 55 Carbon get the full treatment, while the Meta 6 sees a carbon rear end. Lighter and stiffer than their aluminum predecessors, everything is new, except their race-bred character when the slope points downward.

The Supreme DH and the Meta 6 continue to rack up impressive pro circuit wins. They are the showcase platforms of COMMENCAL technology. Every day they help us to progress, to measure against competitors, to excel and to offer you the best bikes to race on.

2010 brings another phenomenon, the Absolut SX. Its clever design enables it to be ridden in a multitude of configurations. We initially developed the SX, with input from Cedric Gracia, for slopestyle, but it is capable of much more than that. Want to be King of the Air? This rig is for you!

In the Absolut range: the MaxMax gets a makeover - introducing the Maxmax Cromo. Faithful to the philosophy of the original Maxmax: a simple but robust performer on a very tight budget, the Maxmax Cromo receives a chrome molybdenum steel frame (CrMo), allowing you to push the capabilities of this trick frame even further.

Finally, exclusively in the US we offer something completely new: Total ChoiceTM. A new way to purchase a Commencal custom bike, direct from the factory to your local bike shop, built the way you want - right out of the box. Supreme DHThe World’s Top Competition Bike 2 Years Running A performance powerhouse, proven in 5 World Cup victories and a historic double win at the World Championships. The 8” travel Supreme DH currently dominates the pro circuit in the hands of team riders Rachel and Gee Atherton. The Supreme DH adapts easily to any type of track, thanks to its Contact System® suspension geometry, adjustable head angle, and adjustable wheelbase. Its perfect geometry and low center of gravity make this one of the most effective DH bikes ever built.

Commencal’s innovative Contact System linkage reduces pedal bob and optimizes the spring curve.


Adjustable headtube: It takes just a minute to adjust the rake over a 2° range depending on the head tube sleeve used. Adjust to 63, 64 or 65 degree angle depending upon the terrain.


Supreme RacingPark PunisherThe competition bred genes of the World Champion Supreme DH are here in a more compact 6.3” travel bike that can do it all. The Supreme is the perfect bike to push your limits at a mountain resort, rip it up in a bike park or blast through an enduro trail.

Commencal’s innovative Contact System linkage reduces pedal bob and optimizes the spring curve. The total effect of this compacted assembly is a lower center of gravity, meaning increased stability for the rider.

META 6Race Ready from the BoxThe Meta 6 is the Marathon Downhill bike par excellence. Remy Ab-salon hasn’t stopped winning with this bike. For 2010, the Meta 6 has gained a new carbon swing arm. This ultra rigid design will undoubt-edly reinforce its position as leader of its class. The Meta 6 is now, more than ever, the ultimate weapon for marathon and enduro riding.

Telescoping Seatpost

The 2010 Meta 6 range has specific cable guides on the front triangle to allow installation of a telescopic seatpost with remote adjuster.


Adjustable Head Angle

Setting your bike up for the characteristics of the terrain has never been easier. It takes only a minute to modify the head tube angle by undoing two screws. On the S and M sizes, you can change the angle by +/-1°, on the L and XL by +/-0.5°.


META 55 AlThe aluminum Meta 5 is one of the most versatile and desirable bikes on the market. It was selected by Mountain Bike Rider (UK) as one of the top ten best bikes of the decade - in all categories! Crowned European Marathon Champion three times with Remy Absalon, this bike is an excellent performer whether going up or down.


Redesigned Top Tube

On the Meta 5.5 Al significant revisions were made to the triple butted tubes. The downtube now has a curved design that disperses forces for better maneuverability and control.

META 55 CarbonRecords are Made to be BrokenFor 2010, we’ve taken the race proven geometry of the successful Meta 5 and mixed it with the dynamic properties of carbon technology. 20% lighter and stiffer than its predecessor, this bike is built to smash records in the All-Mountain category.


SUPER 4 CarbonThe Marathon XC Bike Re-Defined

The Super 4 gets carbon technology for 2010. Lighter and more responsive, the Super 4 climbs like a rocket, yet descends with Commencal’s unmistakable stability and control. 15% lighter than 2009, the Super 4 is in its element whether on a dusty XC trail or a full-on mountain assault.

Rear Suspension

The SUPER 4 rear shock was developed in conjunction with FOX Racing to offer grip and traction that is uncommon for a bike with 4” of travel.

The Contact System

The main pivot point is positioned so that the rider is unaffected by the forces of pedal bob while in the middle chainring and kickback while in the smallest chainring.


SKIN CarbonLife is a RaceThe Skin is a high-end cross country hard tail, combining light weight, performance with timeless looks and handling. From headtube to rear triangle, there are no unnecessary design elements, everything exists for a purpose. Carbon technol-ogy and geometry smooth out the most punishing XC trails to give you hour upon hour of pure riding thrills. When you are grinning from ear to ear at the end of a long ride, you too will understand what sets the Skin apart from the rest.

Construction

To make the SKIN, we use the best carbon fiber on the market: High Modulus 12K (Toray T600 for those in the know). This high-end fiber allows us to make use of fewer layers, resulting in a lighter construction with equivalent rigidity and reliability to similar frames on the market.


Geometry

In keeping with Commencal’s gravity heritage, the SKIN has been designed with a 68° head angle that is at least 1° slacker than its competition. This means that the bike is much more stable during descents, so you can ride faster with confidence.


ABSOLUT SXAn All-New Slopestyle RideOne look and you know this bike is something different. Compact and light with 5.5 inches of travel, the Absolut SX is simple, burly and modern. Developed and tested with input from MTB legend Cedric Gracia the Absolut SX is the bike you can take to a bike park as easily as a twisty downhill trail. The Absolut SX is extremely reliable and knows how to shred.


For the Absolut SX, the Commencal contact system has been updated with an innovative connection at the bot-tom bracket that enables you to run with gears or as a Singlespeed.


ABSOLUT & MAXMAX

As colorful as usual, the new ABSOLUT range picks up new “3-D” decals that will surely turn a few heads. The starting point for this fantastic range of bikes is the MAXMAX. Easily recognizable by its lightning bolts, the MAXMAX is available for 2010 in CrMo or Aluminum.


For 2010, the big news is the introduction of the CrMo steel into the Maxmax and Absolut CG range.This material is well known now in the dirt jump category. Indestructible, this steel frame will give you the opportunity to attempt any of a multitude of incredible tricks, without any risk to the frame - all at an affordable price.

The bottom bracket uses a BSA standard, and has been lowered by 6mm for easier handling. •Shares the high-end Absolut CrMo geometry •Integrated rear mech hanger •Integrated headset •Integrated chain tensioner in the dropouts •Built-in rear disc brake mount makes the rear wheel installation easier •
