The grapevine has the following

characteristics:

organization laterally and diagonally.

The grapevine, being unrestricted moves rapidly. Once amessage enters the grapevine, it moves almost

instantaneously to any point in the organization.

The grapevine is selective with regard to the person whoreceives the information. Some people are tuned into it and

others are not.

The grapevine exten

Should managers participate?

 They have three potions:

1. Ignore the grapevine, be no part of it.

2. Participate only when it serves theirpurpose.

3. Become an active and full time participant.

Disadvantages

There are occasions when the grapevine does

not carry complete information

2.Information communicate

dthrough the

grapevine may get distorted

 3.Informal communication is generally

unreliable

 4.Confidential information often leaks out

through communication.

Positive Aspects

Organizations cannot fire the grapevine

because they did not hire it. It is simply

there.

1. It is a release mechanism for stress.

2. As stronger personal bonds occur among

workers, a greater spirit of team work exists

within the organization.

 3. Speedy transfer of information, increases

the contributions of employees.

4. It helps improving efficiency of employees.

 5. It is the good indicator of health, morale,

trends, and productivity.

dimplementingprocedures.
