Flamenco for Kids/Teens!May 22, 2013
Flamenco for Kids/Teens! is an innovative program central to the festival's CommunityOutreach and Education missions. The first day of the festival is dedicated to theyouth. Students and educators from the Houston area are invited to attend gratuitousinteractive performance/demonstrations at the Proscenium Theater located at SanJacinto College South. Expanding on the rich art and culture of Spain's diverse regionsand the Andalusian art of Flamenco, students enjoy a dynamic presentation where all areencouraged to participate!

An enthusiastic audience of 374 children from Kindergarten to High School, enjoyed
learning about Spanish arts and joined in singing, dancing and playing!

"Since our school is a Title One school, our students rarely have the opportunity to attend events
such as the one you presented. Many of the students had no prior knowledge offlamenco. This is particularly distressing to me for my Latino students. I believe that it isimportant for them to know about their heritage and their culture. Unfortunately, manylower income families do not have the disposable income that allows them to buy ticketsfor events that have to do with culture and the arts. You are to be commended for givingthese students the opportunity to learn more about the Hispanic culture and the art offlamenco."
