I think this music video is also aimed at people who like watching weird horror films as the video are all dark and scary. Lyrics (Meaning Implied?) In the music video there isn’t many lyrics, there’s just a constant repetition of the same lines, “I want your soul,” “I will eat your your soul” and “come to daddy.” The music video could have some sort of weird religious element as he keeps mentioning about taking or eating your soul so it could represent a type of hell on earth as the main character seen in the video except from the men like children is the demon type thing in the TV screen which eventually emerges from the TV screen. This could be interpreted in many ways; one way could maybe be a demon somehow coming from hell and into the real world. Another way could be because some people see TV/technology as ruining others perception of things so the demon saying the words “I want your soul” could possibly be a representation of how TV is ‘ruining’ people’s minds. Tempo The tempo of the music video is quite fast paced and aggressive, because of this it goes well with the action that seems to be going on in the video with the little men-children smashing things and causing havoc on property and the people that are around at the time. However, despite the fast tempo of the music mid-way through the video the music changes to a nursery rhyme that only lasts a short amount of time as the man-children skip along the path, this could be seen as creepy for some but because of the weird nature of the video it goes with the strange theme despite the fact that most of the song is quickly paced but for others it could possibly create some sort of calming effect despite what’s going on in the video and the music overall. Genre The genre of this music video is horror/thriller; pretty much everything in the music video indicates this. Because of this video’s genre being horror we would expect to see

Aphex Twin – Come To Daddy - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-9UvrLyj3k Target Audience & Needs

I think the target audience for this music video by Apex Twin is aimed at teenagers and young adults who like listening to techno, rave type music or drum and bass sort of music. I think this music video is also aimed at people who like watching weird horror films as the video are all dark and scary.

Lyrics (Meaning Implied?)

In the music video there isn’t many lyrics, there’s just a constant repetition of the same lines, “I want your soul,” “I will eat your your soul” and “come to daddy.” The music video could have some sort of weird religious element as he keeps mentioning about taking or eating your soul so it could represent a type of hell on earth as the main character seen in the video except from the men like children is the demon type thing in the TV screen which eventually emerges from the TV screen.

Because of this video’s genre being horror we would expect to see dark, cold colours being used when editing to make things creepier, we’d also expect to hear either slow, creepy music to create an atmosphere or loud, aggressive music like in this song where there’s a mixture of drum & bass and techno being used.

Camera Technique One of the camera techniques used in Aphex Twin’s music video ‘Come To Daddy’ is a close up. This close up was used when showing the old lady and her dog; it is used to show the emotion on the old ladies face when she looks around when she thinks someone is there.Another shot would be the establishing shot of the flats to show the area of where they are currently.Jump shots are also used in the music video between shots the show different things that are happening quickly.A mid shot is also used in this video when the dog is barking at the TV, I think they used this shot to show how hard the dog was trying to get away and attack the thing in the TV whilst the elder woman was trying to stop him.In the video a long shot is used toward the beginning of the music video to show the dog and elder woman just before everything starts happening.

Just before that shot a pan was used down the side of the flats.

Editing For editing in this video we can see that they have cut from the children to the monster in the TV as they watch him emerge from

the screen. Another editing technique used would be the cutting from different characters in the video as they all do their own thing.Slow motion is also used in the music video when the dog is barking at the TV after it electrocutes him.A dark and smoky effect is also used in the video when the monster/demon and the children are all standing together, this a good editing piece because it fits well with the genre of the video and it gives it more of that weird, creepy feel when they’re all standing there instead of it just being plain.

Use of Digital Effects All throughout the video cold colours are used, seen as though it’s a horror/thriller type genre with demons and little men-children it all goes together to keep it scary. Colour correction is obviously used through the video but it still has flashing colours a few times in the video when cutting from one thing to the other or to add effect as the demon is moving its head around in the TV screen. Distortion and glitches are used in the video quite a bit when the demon is in the TV screen talking about wanting your soul. This gives it more of weird feel because he’s smiling sometimes in between glitches.
