A MESSAGE FOR YOU

Pg . 3

To live is to coexist

The most important part of ourselves is outside of ourselves

I wish to share with you a very convenient reflec on for our lives from author José Luis Mar n Descalzo.

To live is to coexist. Coexis ng is not semi-living, but mul -living; it does not cut back, it adds; it does not forego, it launches. To love can imply some sacrifice (or can begin being a sacrifice), but always ends increasing. In reality—as Gabriel Marcel would say—”Nothing is ever lost for a man who serves a great love, or lives a true friendship, but everything is lost for he who is alone”, and “There is no greater suffering than to be alone.”

What would I be now without everything I received as a loan from my parents, my siblings, my friends? How many pieces of my life do I owe Bach or Mozart, Bernanos or Dostoyevsky, Blessed Angelico or El Greco, Saint Francis of Assisi or Saint Thomas Aquinas, my college professors or seminary, my ordina on and work colleagues, and so many who have loved and helped me? I would be le bare if, suddenly, all those loans would be taken away. To live is to make (someone) live. We must create other happiness in order to be happy. We must give a lot in order to be filled.

In exchange, how infer le is our selfishness, that we produce nothing when we lock ourselves within ourselves! Yes, selfishness is infer le and produces such a transitory, brief, and useless pleasure... But, on the other side, it is so within ourselves! Even so, frequently, selfishness disguises itself as love. This happens when we use the loved person or thing for our own personal pleasure—when we think we are loving, yet we are trapping; when we want in order to be loved; when we transform the loved one or the loved voca on into a mirror in order to see ourselves mul plied.

True love is, however, the love that brings us outside of ourselves, the love that launches us outside and enriches us, not because of what is returned to us, but because the act of going outside of ourselves is enriching. The soul stretches when it opens up. It becomes fer le because it opens up.

Crea on occurs out of love. Yet, belief is a result of love. And that is what makes faith in God so unifying to the love toward our brothers and sisters. “Faith—as Guardini would say—is a flame that ignites in another flame”.

The most important part of ourselves is outside of ourselves: above, in God; to the right and le , in everything that surrounds us. That is why love is not the cream and cherry on the top of the cake of life. It is the flour with which we create it to be true.

Fr. Benjamin Rivera

ADORATION “Adoration is prayer that

prolongs the celebration and Eucharistic communion and in

ENTRANCE ANTIPHON Ps 54 (53): 6, 8 See, I have God for my help. The Lord sustains my soul. I will sacrifice to you with willing heart, and praise your name, O Lord, for it is good.

Steven Curtis Chapman and Matt Maher © 2015 Be Essential Songs/I Am Pilgrim Songs/Who Say Music

We are standing in between hope and despair, believing in your grace and the faith to declare:

You are with us. Hallelujah, hallelujah You are good.

In the ashes and the dust, the sorrow and pain, lies he promise of Your word and the pow'r of Your name.

And when faith gives way to fear, I will trust Your heart, I will trust your heart. When I cannot feel You near, I will trust Your heart I will trust Your heart.

There's a message being written with the morning sun, and a new song for the broken: Death has lost; Love has won!

You are with us, Hallelujah, Hallelujah You are good Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah You are good

Hallelujah (I have tasted), Hallelujah (I have seen it), Hallelujah, You are good Hallelujah (I remember), Hallelujah (I believe it), Hallelujah, You are good.

You are with us. Hallelujah, hallelujah You are good.

The King of love my shepherd is, Whose goodness fails me never. I nothing lack if I am His, and He is mine forever.

Where streams of living water flow, my ransomed soul He’s leading. And where the verdant pastures grow, with food celestial feeding.

Confused and foolish, oft I strayed, but yet in love He sought me. And on His shoulder gently laid, and home, rejoicing, brought me.

In death’s dark vale I fear no ill, with You, dear Lord, beside me. Your rod and staff my comfort still, Your cross before to guide me.

You spread a table in my sight, Your saving grace bestowing, And oh, what transport of delight from Your pure chalice flowing!

And so through all the length of days, Your goodness fails me never, Good Shepherd, may I sing Your praise within Your house forever.

Jesus Teaches the People by the Sea, James Tissot, Brooklyn Museum

ACT OF FAITH DURING COMMUNION Lord Jesus Christ, I firmly believe that you are present in this Blessed Sacrament as true God and true Man, with your Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity. My Redeemer and my Judge,

I adore your Divine Majesty together with the angels and saints. I believe, O Lord; increase my faith.

COMMUNION ANTIPHON Rev 3: 20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock, says the Lord.

If anyone hears my voice and opens the door to me, I will enter his house and dine with him, and he with me.

Marty Haugen © 1987 GIA Publications Incorporated

Shepherd me O God, beyond my wants, beyond my fears, from death into life.

God is my shepherd so nothing shall I want, I rest in the meadows of faithfulness and love.

I walk by the quiet waters of peace.

Gently you raise me and heal my weary soul, You lead me by pathways of righteousness and truth,

My spirit shall sing the music of Your name.

Though I should wander the valley of death, I fear no evil, for You are at my side.

Your rod and Your staff, my comfort and my hope.

You have set me a banquet of love in the face of hatred, Crowning me with love beyond my pow’r to hold.

Surely your kindness and mercy follow me all the days of my life;

I will dwell in the house of my God forever more.

Brenton Brown, Ken Riley © 2005 Thankyou Music (Admin. by EMI Christian Music Publishing)

Strength will rise as we wait upon the Lord, we will wait upon the Lord, we will wait upon the Lord.

Strength will rise as we wait upon the Lord, we will wait upon the Lord. we will wait upon the Lord

Our God You reign forever. Our hope Our strong Deliverer.

You are the everlasting God, the everlasting God. You do not faint, You won't grow weary.

You're the defender of the weak, You comfort those in need

You lift us up on wings like eagles.

Tom Booth © 2007 spiritandsongcom, a division of OCP

You spoke my name, and took my hand, and called me friend.

Such faithful love, so undeserved, a heart transformed.

Though I wandered and have strayed, still your mercy reigns.

You were broken for me, arms wide open on a tree.

You stand knocking at the door, off’ring all I’m hoping for.

To those in dark the Lord cries out, “Come and be saved.”

Along the way we shall find rest, the Lord is good. For God comforts well his own, we are his alone.

You are mine, I am yours, Lord. I am yours, you are mine and I am yours.

Though I wandered and have strayed, still your mercy reigns.

Steven Curtis Chapman © 1999 Sparrow Songs

Be still and know that He is God. Be still and know that He is holy. Be still Oh restless soul of mine, bow before the prince of peace,

Let the noise and clamor cease. Be still

Be still and know that He is God. Be still and know that He is faithful.

Consider all that He has done, stand in awe and be amazed

And know that He will never change. Be still.

Be still and know that he is God. Be still and know that he is God. Be still and know that he is God.

Be still. Be speechless.

Be still and know that He is God. Be still and know He is our Father.

Come rest your head upon His breast. Listen to the rhythm of His unfailing heart of love

Beating for His little ones calling each of us to come. Be still.
