Columbia County is an extraordinary place, but there is no guarantee that it will remain this way.

In order to safeguard our county’s rich natural resources, support a thriving agricultural sector, and inspire a community-wide commitment to conservation, the Columbia Land Conservancy is undertaking the Columbia County Tomorrow campaign.

This ambitious effort will raise more than $7M to accelerate the pace of conservation in Columbia County, focusing on three strategic initiatives: Farm & Forest Protection, Legacy Land Stewardship, and Community Engagement.

These strategies will make it possible for CLC to act quickly to conserve critical parcels of land, steward our 4,000-acre system of Public Conservation Areas to the highest standard, and substantially expand our education and outreach programs.

The Columbia Land Conservancy works with the community to conserve the farmland, forests, wildlife habitat, and rural character of Columbia County, strengthening connections between people and the land.

All donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law.

Farm & Forest Protection: Seizing Critical Opportunities

Columbia County is incredibly rich in ecological resources that are essential to the county’s rural character.

The Farm & Forest Protection Initiative will provide an acquisition fund so that CLC can act promptly to secure significant conservation parcels when they come on the market by:

• Making an interim purchasepending receipt of grant funds,which can take several years;

• Acquiring an option or coveringnecessary transaction costs;

• Contributing to theacquisition price of land withhigh conservation values.

Legacy Land Stewardship: Caring for Land in Perpetuity

We manage ten Public Conservation Areas for recreation and wildlife habitat. The Legacy Land Initiative will provide CLC with the ability to enhance our management of these sites by:

• Creating comprehensiveinventories of each site’s naturalresources, and developingmanagement plans based on thebest available science;

• Enhancing the visitorexperience by creatinginterpretive signage, maintaininginfrastructure, and significantlyaugmenting our educationalprograms and work withcommunity groups; and

• Using our land to demonstratebest stewardship practices forconservation-minded propertyowners.

Community Engagement: Cultivating a Constituency for Conservation

Increasing our public education and outreach to strengthen a community conservation ethic will make it possible for CLC to inspire a deep appreciation for the natural world among county residents.

With a successful campaign, we’ll be able to:

• Expand our work withlandowners to assist inmanaging their properties;

• Create a more robustrelationship with Countyschools and community-basedyouth organizations; and

• Support planning, trailbuilding, and communityparks by providing resources tomunicipalities and communitygroups.
