COLLINGSWOOD PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH SERVICE FOR THE LORD’S DAY

March 27, 2016 Resurrection of the Lord

ASSEMBLE IN GOD’S NAME

Silent Prayer We praise you, we worship you, we adore you, O God

of the Risen Christ. You hold the heavens in your hand and all the stars rejoice in your glory. You satisfy all

things living with your abundance and our hearts bow at your presence. Resurrect our spirits this day,

O Lord. Amen.

*Prayer of Confession (Unison) Almighty God, we find ourselves in the garden again surrounded by signs that point to the new life offered through you. But we ignore them because we can’t take our eyes off of the tomb and the shadows of death. We see doubt, despair, and desolation; we allow them to rule our lives by giving into our fears and closing ourselves off from you and each other. Forgive us for our lack of faith. Forgive us for clinging to the past, for belittling new ideas, for hanging on to old prejudices and for not trusting you. Lord, we want to be your people of the light, following our Savior, your Son. And so, we begin again and confess our sins and failures. Overwhelm our shame and grief with the gift of new life so that we will live with your compassion, grace and hope in you. (Time of silent confession.) Leader: Lord have mercy upon us. People: Christ have mercy. Leader: Lord have mercy upon us. *Words of Assurance Leader: Come into the light of God’s love! People: Christ is risen! Death has been swallowed up in victory! Leader: Be at peace and know beyond all doubt that God’s love is

always with you, surrounding you, leading you, comforting you.

People: We have heard, we believe and so we will live the good news. In Christ Jesus, we are forgiven. Alleluia! Amen.

Psalm 118:1-17 (Responsively): Leader: O give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his steadfast love endures forever! People: Let Israel say, “His steadfast love endures forever.” Leader: Let the house of Aaron say, “His steadfast love endures forever.” People: Let those who fear the Lord say, “His steadfast love endures forever.” Leader: Out of my distress I called on the Lord; the Lord answered me and set me in a broad place. People: With the Lord on my side I do not fear. What can mortals do to me? Leader: The Lord is on my side to help me; I shall look in triumph on those who hate me. People: The Lord is my strength and my might; he has become my salvation. Leader: There are glad songs of victory in the tents of the righteous: “The right hand of the Lord does valiantly; the right hand of the Lord is exalted; the right hand of the Lord does valiantly.” People: I shall not die, but I shall live, and recount the deeds of the Lord. *Hymn - “Blessed Assurance, Jesus Is Mine!” GTG #839 tune - Assurance *Gospel Lesson - John 20:11-18 (page 989) Sermon: “Back In The Garden” Rev. WE RESPOND TO GOD’S WORD

*Affirmation of Faith - The Apostle’s Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, And in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascend-ed into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the com-munion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

Offering

We have come together to celebrate Christ’s victory over death and to give thanks for God’s amazing, all-encompassing love. Each one of us is an expression of this love. By the way

we live and the way we give, that love is carried into the lives of others who have had little experience of God’s care.

May our offerings represent an outpouring of our gratitude. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
