Positive Behaviour for Learning
Positive Behaviour for Learning
Yesterday, we saw the launch of Positive Behaviour for
Learning (PBL) at Coleambally Central School. PBL is a
whole school approach to establish consistency and
awareness throughout the school community.
PBL is essentially a positive and proactive behaviour
management program. At Coleambally Central School we
want our students to be actively engaged in their learning. It
is about teaching positive behaviour and recognising and
acknowledging that behaviour. It is seen as being far more
effective than the reactive punitive approach to negative
behaviours. Of course, there are consequences to negative
behaviours, but it is hoped that there will be fewer negative
behaviours displayed once PBL is fully implemented.
The foundation of PBL is to empower all those that make up
our school community to create positive relationships to
ensure we establish a school culture which is that of a calm,
positive and productive teaching and learning environment.
A New Start
This week students in Years 7 through to 11 start a new
timetable. Book lists were provided to students to allow them
to be organised and are also available on the school’s website
along with the new timetable.
Year 12 Farewell
This Thursday night will see another Year 12 class
completing their time at Coleambally Central School. The
formal dinner, to be held at the Coleambally Community
Club, will see a large crowd in attendance to farewell our
Year 12 students. I’m sure the class will leave with many
fond memories.
Early Success for Year 12 students
For three of our Year 12 students, Christmas arrived a little
earlier this year with some special news arriving via email.
Zac Leach-Deahm, Luke Hogan and Molly McFadyen have
been notified that their applications for early entry into
University courses have been successful.
The three have been successful in gaining early entry to the
Charles Sturt University through the School’s
Recommendation Schemes. Well done.
Enjoy the week

Happy New Year!
Now that both HSC and junior secondary exams are over, our
secondary students have rolled over to the new 2015
curriculum year. Years 7 to 11 have become Years 8 to 12,
with the 2015 timetable starting already. If you need another
copy of the timetable, they can be downloaded through the
school website. Note that this week is Cycle 1 on the new
timetable.
Happy New Year CCS Secondary!
P&C Raffle
The CCS P&C are running a new online option for the 2015
Christmas raffle. Tickets are available online through the
news section of the school website, or by going directly to

There are four great prizes: $500 worth of electrical goods

children's Santa stocking full of goodies.
There's also an option online to share the link with family and
friends from afar who might also like to purchase tickets and
support P&C fundraising that benefits all our students.
If you would like to purchase tickets with cash, please see a
P&C representative when tickets are available in the main
street, or on the night at Presentation Evening.
Educating the whole student
On Wednesday and Thursday this week we will have two
important welfare initiatives for our students. Primary
students will be visited by Healthy Harold in the Life
Education van, and our junior secondary students will enjoy
interesting and thought provoking presentations from
Constable Brooke Papasidero, the Police Schools Liaison
Officer. It is great that our students have these life education
opportunities.
Farewell Year 12
On Thursday evening this week we will be saying goodbye to
our 2014 Year 12 students. No doubt Mrs Young and her
band of helpers will transform the club for a fantastic evening
of reflection and celebration. We wish our Year 12 students
every success for their future.

Year 5/6
Maths
In science this week we did balloon string races with Mr Dean. We learnt about
what caused the balloon to move, how the balloon uses energy and how hu-
mans use energy to blow up a balloon. In technology we started using Microsoft
Publisher. We copied text from the internet and saved images to create a collage.
In HSIE this week we explored women’s role in mining in Ballarat. In 1854 the women were responsible for
maintaining the house. Jobs like sewing, cooking and cleaning. Women
also had to clean the guzzunder A guzzunder was a toilet under the bed. Ewwww!
Year 5/6 created swan sketches in art this week. We followed a step by step video to create our
sketches. You can learn how to draw lots of great drawings by visiting www.drawspace.com
Maddie Rainbird’s sketch is pictured below.
This week we worked on fluency of number facts across the four operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division). We also looked at
algebraic expressions. Some of the algebraic expressions that we solved were extremely
difficult. We gave Mr Watts goose bumps when we solved the difficult ones. Awesome job!
Creative Arts
Science PE
In PE this week we learnt how to play Lacrosse We practiced Lacrosse skills and then played a game. Lacrosse is a tribal stickball game that was played by Native Americans.
