What Is CogAT?
Cognitive Abilities Test
Who do we test?
October—Grades 2 and 5 take the full CogAT Three complete batteries
about 1 hour per battery
3 hours total (over 3 different school days)
December—Kinder takes a screener CogAT Three screener batteries
about 1 hour total in 1 school day
How do we use it in GCISD?
One data point for ASPIRE student identification
State requirement that all Kinder students be screened for GT identification
Instructional tools based on student abilities We need to focus on this when working with data following

A “Draw Here” screen appears for students to use while waiting to start testing.
The students need to check for their name at the top of the Draw Here page.
Feel free to delete this slide, but please discuss this.
Be patient, last year there were some pages that took a while to load. Just breathe and wait.
Don’t click, click, click until you READ, READ, READ.
Many phone calls had to be placed last year because students were inadvertently marked as having completed a subtest, when they had not completed it, but instead an understandably frustrated and impatient teacher clicked without really reading what was being clicked.
Once all students are in:
Approve all students.
Walk around to actively monitor students.
Each student must hit submit.
When all students in a subtest have completed testing, you can Continue Testing All—advance to next subtest (Be sure this
is what you want to do)
End Testing All—stop testing. Students will have to log in with a new session code.
