Principal’s Report

Bushfire Relocation Survey Thank you to the many parents who have already returned the Bushfire Relocation Survey sent out yesterday. This survey will provide very important information regarding managing procedures on days of extreme. The deadline for returning the survey is Wednesday 25th October 2017.

Emergency Management Plans Our school and OSHC Emergency Management Plans are currently being updated to ensure that they replicate any changes to current regulations. The plans will be tabled at School Council before being finally approved by DET. As we are in a high fire risk area we are asking that all parents provide updated mobile phone details to the office. A note will be sent home next week to enable you to do so. This will enable us to communicate directly with you through your mobile phone device in the event of an emergency.

Regional Athletics Congratulations to Sasha Carroll and Lachlan Brook who represented the Dandenong Ranges district at regional athletics on Wednesday. Sasha placed a very admirable 5th in long jump, jumping a massive distance of 3.77metres. We are very proud of Lachlan’s placing of 4th in shot put where he managed to record a massive 11.16 metres. Well done to both students who have done exceptionally well in their journey to this level! Cup Eve and Cup Day The school will be closed for Cup Day on Tuesday 7th November 2017. The day prior is traditionally always very quiet as many families take the opportunity to extend the weekend to a four day break. If you are travelling for an extended weekend break, please drive carefully and stay safe. Our staff will be at school on Cup Eve and will be using the day as an opportunity for professional development. We will have a focus on literacy and numeracy planning and the development of our Annual Implementation Plan for the 2018 school year. Relief teachers will be employed to provide the school program, as instructed by the class teacher, to the students who arrive on Monday. Historically, low numbers attend on Cup Eve so, consequently, there will be no canteen operating on this day. Thanks to those who have already let us know that their child will not be attending school on Cup Eve. Carols Night – A Date to Save in Your Diary The school’s annual Carols Night will be held on Monday 11th December 2017. The PFA will provide food on the night before the concert commences at 6.30PM. Each grade of students is currently organising their routines to present on the night. Teachers will be available for a “Meet and Greet” session on this night which provides an opportunity to meet your child’s 2018 teacher.

On Tuesday the 17th of October the RACV Energy Breakthrough team held our first ever Colour Fun Run. This fundraiser was to raise money for modifications to our cart and resources for our team. It was a fantastic day and everyone who participated enjoyed getting covered in coloured powder. Both

ovals were our coloured checkpoints and kids enjoyed racing from one to another. A big thank you to all those who gave up their time to help out on the day.

PFA Page * Cooking Program Every Wednesday (and a few Mondays)

* Hot Chip Day Tuesday 24th October (next Tuesday)

* Christmas Hamper – Out of Uniform Day Thursday 26th October

(next Thursday)

The PFA Team are very excited to continue the Cooking Program at Cockatoo Primary School during fourth term. Cooking will run every Wednesday (and a few Mondays) on a rotating timetable. It takes approximately 4 weeks to get through all the grades in the school. Every student in the school will enjoy learning to cook some delicious recipes. All

recipes will be made “from scratch”, no jars of sauce or packets of pasta sauce etc will be used. We want all students to learn to cook, and learn the basic skills required.

This week we made “Fried Rice” with 5/6S, 5/6M, 1/2E and 1/2E. FS made Pasta Salad. If you wish to contribute to the program, you can make a financial donation at the Office towards the ingredients.

The PFA Team volunteer their time to run this Cooking Program at Cockatoo Primary School. If you are interested and available to come in on any

Wednesday (or Monday) to help with the Cooking Program, we would really appreciate your help. We would like to have one adult supervising each small group of students. All recipes are provided, and a copy of each recipe will be sent home with students, so they can make their recipes again at home in the

future. We would love you to come along and help teach the students at Cockatoo Primary School to cook.

Cockatoo Primary School would like to thank the Cockatoo Country Market for their generous grant to continue running our Cooking Program.

Items could include canned goods, packets of pasta or biscuits, jars of food, sauce, jams and spreads, packet cakes, dried fruit, breakfast cereals, tea, coffee, milo, sugar, flour etc. All items must have use by dates until at least 30.06.2018. No fresh ingredients such as bread or milk please.
