� Reconfigured diploma requirements

• Can now count up to two co-op credits as compulsory credits

� Why? No other type of course delivery has a higher ‘credit accumulation rate’

• Co-op students almost always get their credits!

Overview: Rez Co-op Programs

� Regular two-credit co-op (many, many students)

� OYAP• Regular OYAP (very popular too)

• Concentrated OYAP (a few students)

• CAPP (College Apprenticeship Preparation Program) (a few)

� Home Build Program (a few students)

� UCEP & CCEP (a few students…15 & 10)

� Four-credit Full-day Co-op (one or two)

� Summer Co-op (twenty)

Regular Two-credit Co-op

� most common format by far• AM or PM during semester I or II

• Must have some experience/course work in the area to maximize benefit

• E.g. Auto co-op kids have auto credits

‘Regular Co-op’ Components

� Course components:

• Pre-employment (3 weeks)• activities include interview skills & resume

• Placement (3 hours/day for 4 months)• Business hours, not school hours necessarily

• Employer feedback

� Regular OYAP� Like 2-credit co-op

Rez� Machinist, Cabinetmaker, Industrial Mechanic Millwright,

Education Program� Study at UW, Laurier or St. Jerome’s Univ. for semester one (Year 4 or 5)

� University credit, co-op credits (2) & Gr. 12U credits (1 or 2)

CCEP – College Co-op

Education Program• An opportunity to spend an entire

semester at Conestoga College (semester one or two of Year 4 or 5)

• Designed to make transition to college easier

• Three or four credits: co-op (2) and one or two grade 12 dual-credits (counts as a credit for high school AND Conestoga)

• Tuition, textbooks and transit all FREE

related to the SHSM major in Gr. 11 & 12)

� CO-OP – (2 credits achieved)

� CERTIFICATIONS & Awareness Training –specialized workshops to learn more about your potential career

• Must apply for acceptance into Co-op� Signing up for a SHSM does not guarantee

that you will be accepted into co-op

Co-op Application Procedure

� Have your pathway planning conversations with parents, guidance counsellors and teachers

� Include Co-op in your on-line 2018-19 course selection choices (2 credits)…more on this in your grade-level Guidance presentations

� Submit completed paperwork (available in Guidance once grade-level Guidance presentations begin ~ February)• Application form• Green teacher references (2)

Career Cruising View & Instructions

� ALL co-op programs will take up TWO course selection slots in CC,• even if the program you select offers > 2

credits (e.g. Full-day Co-op)

• Exception: summer co-op (no slots)

� Must therefore select other course options to round out your selections

� Why? So that you still have some courses in case you don’t get into co-op!

� We will interview you in March to determine your ‘readiness’ for co-op if:• You listed co-op as part of your on-line course selections

and have submitted a completed yellow application form
