BEAT THE ODDS with Mr. Bob Holmes

The National Center for Educational Statics reports, in 2016, more than one out of every five students report being bul-

lied. In 2014, the Center for Disease Control reported that students who are bullied are more likely to experience low

self-esteem and isolation, perform poorly in school, have few friends in school, view school in a negative way, experi-

ence physical symptoms, and experience mental health issues. Because the Warrick County School Corporation wants

to prevent bullying from being a part of our students’ lives, each year we host an anti-bullying assembly to unite stu-

dents and teachers in the fight against bullying in our schools.

This year Mr. Bob Holmes, a one-man volleyball team, visited Castle North Middle School with his message about

Beating the Odds. Mr. Holmes has been featured in USA Today, on CNN, and CBS Nightly News. Mr. Holmes has also

been featured in the Guinness Book of World Record and Ripley’s Believe It or Not! as the athlete who has played the

most games in any sport in history! Unbelievably, Mr. Holmes has won over 18,500 volleyball matches and lost only

450. He has won volleyball matches against teams like the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Miami Dolphins, and the Baltimore

Orioles.

However, this year, our 8th grade girls volleyball team defeated Mr. Holmes by the score of 21-15! Mr. Holmes said that

this was the first time that he had ever lost to a middle school team! Way to go, Lady Squires!

“ It's not about volleyball. It's about changing lives and challenging youth to make a difference for themselves as well as

others," states Bob. “One person can make a difference!” If you want to find out more about Mr. Bob Holmes, go to

The Castle North Middle School generationOn Club is promoting literacy through a project designed to bring Dolly Par-

ton’s Imagination Library to Warrick County. Children in Warrick County who are under the age of 5 will be eligible to

receive a book each month from the Dolly Parton Foundation. When we have raised $20,000, we will start registering

children born in 2017. As funds continue, children born in 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021…will be eligible for registration.

Did you know:

$25 sponsors one child for an entire year?

early reading creates a love of learning and builds a child’s vocabulary before entering school?

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is in 1600 communities that have seen improved reading abilities for all stu-

dents?

CNMS generationOn Club members need your help to make sure all children in our community start school with at

least a 6,000-word vocabulary and are prepared to learn by bringing books into all Warrick County homes. The at-

tached response sheet provides you with some Imagination Library giving opportunities.

The children of Warrick County and the Castle North Middle School generationOn Club thanks you for your support.

It's that time again! Box Top Collection is underway. Last

year we raised $487 for our school! We have a big goal

this year of $1000 and if each student brings 25 box tops

each we will make it! Bring your clipped box tops in a

sandwich bag of quantities of 25 or 50 and separate bo-

nus box tops.

Mark your bags of box tops with:

1. Amount of box tops

2. Your first and last name

3. Your homeroom teacher's name.

Start bringing them into school now if you have some from

the summer!

Important Note: Please check to make sure your box tops

are not expired. We will not get credit for expired box

tops.

Go to: www.boxtops4education.com for participating

brands.

Your box top donations raise money to better our wonder-

ful school! Ask family and friends to start

clipping!

Give your box tops to your homeroom

teachers by October 25th.

Thank you and good luck, Squires!
