If you see there is Idealistic Distortion or feel there is, spend time talking to the couple about having the courage to be honest with themselves and with their partner about all of the different areas of their relationship. Guide For Meeting With Your Couples

Now that it’s time to meet with your couple we want to provide you four different scenarios for facilitating your meeting(s) with the the couple you are marrying so that depending on your time, preferences, and needs you have more direction in being the best resource as you can.

As a reminder, when you enter into your couple’s Pre and Post survey questions you will find the responses of each partner based upon a 10 point scale. 1 equaling the lowest level of agreement with the question or statement and 10 equaling the highest level of agreement to the statement or question. Responses have been color-coded to help you distinguish: Strength areas, Growth areas, and Challenge areas in the couples relationship based upon their re-sponses. Responses with 8-10 are considered a strength area and given a green indication. Re-sponses 4-7 are considered growth area and given a yellow indication. Responses 1-3 are con-sidered a challenge area and given a red indication. We recommend that if you are pressed for time, that you focus first on challenge areas (red), then growth areas (yellow), and finally strength areas (green).

*Note: If you notice when looking at the your couple’s results on their Pre/Post Surveys and Couple Self-Evaluation that the couple has scored themselves in the “green zone” for the majority of their responses, check to see if one or both of the partners has any Idealistic Distortion which can be found in your PrePare-Enrich assessment. If you see there is Idealistic Distortion or feel there is, spend time talking to the couple about having the courage to be honest with themselves and with their partner about all of the different areas of their relationship. The more the couple can be honest with one another, the more trust and integrity will be built between them.

Scenario 1: Pastor Meeting with Couple 4 Times

Session 1:

Spend session one going over the results of the PrePare-Enrich instrument and, if possible, asking the couple to share their "Couple Self-Evaluation” results (you have this available to you in your Pastor’s Dashboard).  Be certain to uplift those areas in which the couple is demonstrating strengths as indicated by responses in the "green zone” which is the couple’s strength area.

Session 2:

Spend session two reviewing the individual and couple profiles of the post retreat surveys.   Encourage the couple to take special note of the areas in the "yellow zone", also known as growth areas.  These are areas they need to continue to be intentionally working on.  For example, if financial matters is a yellow, encourage them to attend Financial Peace Universi-ty by Dave Ramsey. If the couple is in the "red zone”, also known as a challenge area, ask them to consider further counseling before getting married and being open to continue counseling after their wedding.  This is especially essential if they are in the "red zone" in areas such as communication or conflict resolution.

Session 3:

In session three, once again visit with the couple about how they intend to work on their growth areas and those areas which they score in the numbers the "red zone”, also known as the challenge area.

Session 3 continued: We recommend advising the couple to set further counseling sessions with a professional counselor, coach, or pastor.  After completing going through all of the Pre/Post survey re-sults begin working with the couple on Session 1 of the Spiritual Formation exercises.

Session 4:

In session four, complete working through any questions the couple may have concerning Spiritual Formation Sessions II and III.  Usually this session will also include talking through the wedding ceremony and wrapping up any last-minute details or questions you or the couple may have before their wedding day.

Scenario 2: Pastor Meeting with Couple 3 Times

Session 1:

Spend session one going over any questions you have concerning the PrePare-Enrich instrument.  Ask the couple to share the results of their "Couple Self-Evaluation” found in your Pastor’s Dashboard. Then begin going over the pre-individual and post-individual sur-veys as well as the pre-couple and post-couple surveys.

Session 2:

Spend session two completing your conversations about the results of the pre and post surveys.  Remember to ask how the couple intends to handle any growth areas and if they are willing to enter into counseling should they have any areas in the red zone.

Session 3:

Spend session three going through the 3 spiritual surveys with them with a special focus on the possible role their faith community will play in their future.

Scenario 3: Pastor Meeting with Couple 2 Times

Session 1:   Please ask the couple how they intend to work through any of the areas in both the PrePare-Enrich instrument as well as the Post Couple Survey where they are showing a need to grow or where they are still in the "red zone" and need to seriously consider further counseling.

Session 2:

Spend time working through Spiritual Formation Sessions I, II, III. Because you have the answers to all of the couple’s questions in your Pastor’s Dashboard you will have an easy way to introduce your faith-based and spiritual questions to the couple.

Scenario 4: Pastor Meeting with Couple 1 Time

Session 1:

Spend approximately 15-20 minutes time asking the couple to review with you their responses to the "Couple Self-Evaluation,” as well as pointing out the growth or challenge areas you noted they have.

For the remainder of the time you spend with the couple ask if there are any questions from the 3 Spiritual Formation exercises the couple filled out that you may be able to assist them with. Because you have limited time to work through the Spiritual Formation Sessions we recommend asking the following questions on the next page:
